Learning Preferences, Computer Attitudes, and Test Performance With Computer-Aided Instruction

Lynch, Thomas G., Steele, David J., Johnson Palensky, Jodi E., Lacy, Naomi L., Duffy, Sean W. 11 July 2001 (has links)
Background: Learning preference refers to how individuals choose to approach learning situations. Computer-aided instruction (CAI) permits the adaptation of educational content to individual student learning strategies. Methods: To determine if learning preference and computer attitude influence the acquisition of knowledge using CAI materials, a prototype CAI program was developed that incorporated differing learning exercises. Students (n = 180) completed Rezler's Learning Preference Inventory (LPI) and a computer attitude survey (CAS). The LPI uses three sets of paired scales to characterize learning preference and choice of learning situation. The CAS assesses student attitudes toward computers in general (CAS-G), as well as the educational use of computers (CAS-E). After finishing the program students completed a program attitude survey (CAS-P). Immediate comprehension was assessed by pretests and posttests incorporated into the program. Retention was assessed by a repeat of the posttest 4 to 6 weeks after initial program review. Results: Scores (mean ± SEM) on the pretest, posttest, and late posttest were 38.1% ± 1.35%, 70.9% ± 1.24%, and 62.5% ± 1.44%, respectively. There was no correlation between students' learning preferences or computer attitude and test performance. Conclusions: The data indicate that CAI provides a means of delivering educational content that results in an increase in knowledge that is not correlated with computer attitudes or learning preferences.

Impact of country of origin on consumer purchase intention among Pakistani customers buying fashion clothes online

Khan, Hafiz Azhar Ahmed January 2022 (has links)
Title: Impact of country of origin on consumer purchase intention amongPakistani customers buying fashion clothes onlineLevel: Master Programme in Business Administration (MBA): Business ManagementAuthor: Hafiz Azhar Ahmed KhanSupervisor: Dr. Ehsanul Huda Chowdhury & Dr. Katarina ArbinExaminer: Dr. Daniella FjellströmDate: March 2022Aim: The research study investigates the impact of country of origin on consumerpurchase intention through consumer preference for Pakistani consumers buying fashioncloth online.Method: The study is using a quantitative research method Data has been collectedthrough a questionnaire that 157 respondents answered. Results were analyzed throughSPSS.Results & Conclusions: The results of this study show that country of origin andconsumer purchase intention has a significant relationship with each other, andconsumer preference mediates the relationship between the variables. Furthermore, itdepicts that when consumers take the country of origin positively, their purchaseintention also becomes positive and vice versa. Further, it has also been found thatconsumer preference builds a strong relationship between a country of origin andpurchase intention.Contribution of the thesis: The current idea has contributed to research related to thecountry of origin because there is no specific study in the Pakistani context which hasstudied the impact of country of origin on consumer preference and how preference canmediate the country of origin‘s effect on consumer purchase intention. In both ways, current research has explained how Country of origin is positively changing preferencesof fashion clothes, and mediation of consumer preference is also proven. It extends theliterature on the Country of origin concerning new context and new mediating variables. It makes the findings of the theory of planned behavior more significant for extrinsiciicues. It also guides managers to schedule their ads and marketing strategies to makethem more successful and competitive.Suggestions for future research: Future researchers should take the current research tothe next level and identify more outcomes of country of origin, such as how it can betterbrand equity or Sales volume. Furthermore, comparative studies can be conducted inwhich a developing and developed country can be specified. Responses for bothcountries should be obtained separately, and then differences can be brought to see themultilevel impact of country of origin. Another suggestion for future research is toconduct a comparative study between online and physical shoppers as the currentresearch was limited to online fashion clothes only

How Do Students Use Academic E-Books?

Bendall, Paul January 2021 (has links)
Since their introduction in the 1990s, academic e-books have been a growing part of library collections, both in their total number and as a proportion of those collections. Research over the previous 20 years has consistently shown that students prefer to use physical books when studying, yet library e-book collections continue to grow. This bachelor’s thesis presents the results of a study into how students use academic e-books and which format (if any) they prefer to use. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six students at varying levels of their studies and the results analysed using a qualitative thematic approach. The theoretical frameworks used to discuss the results are cognitive psychology (how to read e-books) and reading theory (the best approach to adopt when reading books). The key findings are that students still prefer to use physical books when reading for learning (deep reading) but that they appreciate the affordances that most e-books offer when skimming and dipping for informational reading. The students’ level of academic study did not affect their views on academic e-books.

Mogili, Anusha, Pallapu, Manoj Kumar January 2020 (has links)
Background. In today’s competitive world, dealing with real-time streaming data is a difficult task to be achieved by many organizations. The importance of real time streaming data is rapidly increasing in all software industries by passing time. For quick growth of the companies, the data should be analysed immediately as data will be changing in fraction of second. The huge data will be generated every day and it will lead to problems such as overload of resources, Performance delays etc.., Which in turn will impact behaviour of the system. Finding the problem area in real time is difficult task to achieve as the data changes every second. Dealing with detection of bottlenecks and making decisions to handle the problem area, based on the real time data has been slow over the past years. It is also complicated due to time and effort required for storing and analysing. Organizations are not intended to wait for decision making information up to weeks or months. Organizations need to make an timely-accurate decisions by detecting problem area, in real time to improve their business support systems behaviour and performance. One of the better solutions is through data visualization as an approach. The visualizations are developed and evaluated by using task based approach. The data is collected using interviews and paper survey, to obtain the effective and efficient visualization in detecting bottlenecks. Objectives. The main objective is to find the most effective and efficient data visualization technique for real time streaming data to detect potential bottlenecks. Methods. In this research study, an action research is opted to answer the objectives. We have used interviews and paper survey to collect data in the terms of performance time, accuracy rate and user preference. Data analysis is performed using the Statistical tests and Narrative analysis method. Results. The final results obtained are the effective and efficient visualization techniques based on less performance time, higher accuracy rate and better user preference. Conclusions. An effective and efficient visualization technique for detection of bottlenecks is obtained for real time streaming data. Different categories of tasks has been used to obtain accurate results.

Social media y su relación en la intención de compra en aplicaciones delivery en el rubro de comida / Social media and its relationship to purchase intention in delivery applications in the food sector

Alegria Carmelino, Diego Alberto 06 July 2020 (has links)
Currently, there is an increasing number of companies that use social networks as an important channel and delivery companies are no strangers to this. Therefore, the objective of the research is to determine the relationship between social media and purchase intention in delivery applications within the food industry. In this way, it will be possible to identify which social media variable has a greater relationship with the purchase intention. Likewise, since the research seeks to find and relate the purchase intention with the variables selected in the research, 3 research methods were used. The first 2 were qualitative, focused on conducting focus groups to the target audience and interviewing experts in the investigated sector. With the results obtained from the investigations mentioned above, a conclusive investigation was carried out. This was through a linear regression analysis where the dependent variable was the purchase intention and the independent was the social media. The sample was of 210 people. Finally, through the results obtained, it was found that people are more susceptible to certain social media factors. These variables are word of mouth, brand preference and brand awareness, through these it can be determined the correct way to generate a greater purchase intention in people when making a strategy on social networks. / Trabajo de investigación

Knowledge Transfer Preferences of Expert Employees Nearing Retirement

Weiss, Phillip Andrew 01 January 2016 (has links)
Managers of organizations face increasing rates of retiring Baby Boomers as that generation begins to leave the workforce. Some managers of organizations have no formalized knowledge transfer strategies in place to reduce the lost productivity and negative financial effects of these retiring employees. The purpose of this single-site case study was to explore the knowledge transfer preferences of expert scientific support employees nearing retirement at a United States national laboratory in northern California. Understanding the preferences of employees nearing retirement may allow managers to affect the business practice of promoting organizational learning by implementing strategies that catalyze knowledge transfer from expert employees. Systems theory, expectancy theory, knowledge management theory, and organizational learning theory concepts provided the framework. Semistructured interviews with 24 expert scientific support employees provided data, which were subsequently coded and analyzed using the pawing technique. The analysis of themes revealed mentoring to be the preferred method of knowledge transfer, the barriers to knowledge transfer and multiple types of knowledge transfer, and the impact of lack of knowledge transfer on productivity. Public research organization managers implementing effective knowledge transfer programs may increase the potential for scientific discoveries affecting social change through increased prosperity of citizens who could benefit from the derivative advances in energy research.

Modulation of the Nutritional Context and Early Experience as New Tools to Increase the Use of Medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae ssp. asperum) by Grazing Sheep

Montes, Juan J. 01 May 2016 (has links)
The success of medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae ssp. asperum) as an invasive exotic grass in the western US is attributed in part to its low palatability. The nutritional context where medusahead grows can be modulated by the use of supplements that increase herbivores’ preference for unpalatable feeds. Additionally, positive experiences early in life (with mother, with supplements) can have long-life influences on preference for unpalatable feeds. To test the influence of the nutritional context on medusahead intake, ewes grazed with their lambs during summer of 2013 on medusahead-infested rangeland with (Treatment) or without (Control) the daily provision of an energy-rich supplement. To test for the effect of experience early in life at grazing medusahead on use of this weed later in life, lambs that grazed with their mothers during 2013 (Experienced) were exposed to medusahead (in pens and during grazing) as yearlings during summer of 2014 along with inexperienced (Control) animals. To better understand the unpalatability of medusahead, the fermentation kinetics of medusahead at different phenological stages and particle sizes was assessed. Ewes grazing with their lambs showed low use of medusahead (5% of the grazing events recorded), even when supplemented. Nevertheless, medusahead use increased across the grazing period and utilization was similar to medusahead abundance in the plant community. Use of medusahead by nursing lambs was correlated with that observed by their mothers and lambs utilized medusahead to the same extent either before or after weaning. Yearlings in pens showed low intake of medusahead and a cyclic pattern of intake across days. However, experienced yearlings displayed a more even intake of medusahead across days and a greater gain-to-feed ratio than Control yearlings. All yearlings showed low to nil use of medusahead during grazing. Medusahead had lower fermentation rates than alfalfa hay and fermentation rates declined with plant maturity. Organic matter digestibility for medusahead declined as particle size of the substrate increased, a relationship that explains the low palatability of the weed. These results provide the foundation for grazing treatments aimed at reducing the abundance of the weed or at preventing its spread in rangelands with different levels of medusahead infestations.

Adult Romantic Attachment Style, Global Self-Esteem, and Specific Self-Views as Predictors of Feedback Preference in Potential Romantic Relationships

Lin, Crystal Chi-Sheng 01 May 2006 (has links)
This study examined how adult romantic attachment (anxiety and avoidance dimensions), global self-esteem, and social and academic self-views relate to one another and how well they predict preference for a specific feedback type (enhancing, verifying, or no feedback) from a potential romantic partner in times of distress. It also investigated the relation between the type of feedback one receives and attraction to the partner who gives that type of feedback. Multiple regression analyses supported some predicted relations between romantic attachment and feedback preference. Neither global self-esteem nor social and academic self-views predicted preference for a particular feedback type, nor did social self-views moderate the relation between attachment and feedback preference. Although global self-esteem was found to moderate the relation between attachment style and feedback preference, the moderation effects were not in the predicted directions. However, academic self-views were found to moderate the relation between attachment and feedback preference. In addition, anxious and avoidant attachment related negatively to global self-esteem, social self-views, and academic self-view. Global self-esteem related positively to both social and academic self-views. Receiving one's preferred feedback predicted attraction to the potential romantic partner who gave that type of feedback. Limitations of the study and direction for future research are discussed.
