It has an interpretative theoretical study character and it began with a compilation of the author s piece, followed by a analysis throughout fifteen elements that characterize the concept of spirituality were identified. They refer to the individual s sense of identity; the existence of a spiritual dimension which transcends the psychological one and has specific characteristics; what allows the human being to reflect on its acts, acknowledge itself as integrating and indissoluble part of the universe and living identified with higher, ethics and spiritual values; the religious experiences, the states of consciousness and the functions and activities regarding above the average values; free will; the meaning and purpose of universal life. Such features point that the concept presented by the author, although broad, is well delimited / O objetivo desta dissertação é compreender a concepção de espiritualidade na abordagem emergente da Psicossíntese proposta por Roberto Assagioli.

Daily Hassles and Suicide Ideation in African-American Female Suicide Attempters: Moderating Effect of Spiritual Well-Being

Hirsch, Jameson K., Webb, Jon R., Kaslow, Nadine J. 28 May 2014 (has links)
Suicide risk is increased for previous suicide attempters, who may be vulnerable to exacerbating factors such as daily hassles; yet, individual-level, adaptive characteristics may ameliorate risk. We examined the influence of daily hassles on suicidal ideation and the moderating role of spiritual well-being and its subscales of religious and existential well-being. In our cross-sectional study, 148 African-American female suicide attempters were recruited from a large, urban hospital and completed the Survey of Recent Life Events, Spiritual Well-Being Scale, and Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation. Religious and existential well-being moderated the association between hassles and suicidal thoughts; this relationship was weaker for individuals with greater levels of spiritual well-being. Historically, spiritual beliefs have been important to the African-American community and their promotion may effectively prevent additional thoughts of suicide by attempters experiencing hassles of daily life.

Family size and religiosity in adolescence and emerging adulthood

McClendon, David Michael 12 July 2011 (has links)
Religion’s influence on fertility behavior has long been discussed. This paper examines the consequences of family size for the intergenerational transmission of religiosity. Using the first and third waves of the National Study of Youth and Religion, I find that family size is a positive predictor of religious salience and service attendance, particularly in emerging adulthood. While parents remain strong influences on both family size and their children’s religiosity, family size appears to provide additional support to religious commitments in emerging adulthood by fostering a more conservative orientation towards family formation. This study adds nuance to our understanding of the dynamics of religiosity in emerging adulthood and provides new evidence of the close connection between religion, family, and fertility. / text

Vidutinio amžiaus žmonių religingumo, psichologinio atsparumo ir subjektyviai vertinamos psichikos sveikatos sąsajos / Relationship among religiousness, psychological resilience and subjectively conceived psychical health in the middle-aged population

Klimantavičienė, Janina 23 June 2011 (has links)
The General Health Questionnaire, 12-GHQ, Goldberg, 1970). Vidutinio amžiaus žmonių psichologinis atsparumas nustatytas naudojant dispozicinį psichologinio atsparumo skalę (angl. Dispositional Resilience Scale, DRS15-R, Bartone, 2007), o religingumas - naudojant vidinio ir išorinio religingumo skalę (angl. Age-Universal” I-E Scale–12, Gorsuch & Venable, 1983). Tyrimo rezultatai atskleidė, kad vidutinio amžiaus žmonių religingumas, psichologinis atsparumas ir subjektyvus savo psichikos sveikatos... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / More and more frequently, both Lithuanian and foreign scholars note that the spiritual world of an individual is related with his/her subjectively conceived welfare, psychical health and psychological resilience (Aukst-Margetic, Margetic, 2005; Clark, Friedman, Martin, 2005; Maddi, Brow, Khoshaba, Vaitkus, 2006; Berg, Hassing, McClearn, Johansson, 2006). However, this research in Lithuania has been scarce (Laurinavičiūtė, 2004), and this topic has been particularly under-researched in the middle-aged segment of the population (Ryan, Caltabiano, 2009; Shen, Zeng, 2010). The aim of the present work is to establish the relationship among the religiousness of the middle-aged population, their psychological resilience and subjectively conceived psychical health. 164 individuals of middle age (40 to 65 years old; age average 51.12 ± 8.1 years)took part in the research; among them, 36.6 per cent males (n=60) and 63.4 per cent females (n=104). In order to establish the subjectively assessed psychical health of the middle-aged population, The General Health Questionnaire, 12-GHQ, developed by Goldberg, (1970) was employed. The psychological resilience of the middle-aged population was established by applying the Dispositional Resilience Scale, DRS15-R, developed by Bartone, (2007) while religiousness was identified by employing the Age-Universal” I-E Scale–12 developed by Gorsuch & Venable (1983). The results of the research revealed that the religiousness, psychological resilience... [to full text]

The relationship between religious commitment, spiritual well-being, and psychological well-being / PWB

Barcus, Sonja M. January 1999 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between religious commitment, spiritual well-being and psychological well-being in college students. The Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) and Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) were administered. Also frequency of church attendance was assessed. Canonical Analysis was used to investigate the data from 425 participants to determine if there is relationship between religious/spiritual well-being and psychological well-being. A statistically significant relationship was found between religious/spiritual well-being and psychological well-being. The following describes the nature of the relationship. First, participants who experience existential well-being tend to be self-accepting and to a lesser extent have mastery of their environment and a purpose in life. Second, participants who experience existential well-being and to a lesser degree, religious well-being tend to accept themselves, have a purpose in life, possess mastery of their environment, positively relate to others, feel they are growing personally, and are autonomous. This study provided evidence of a relationship between religious/spiritual well-being and psychological well-being. Implications and limitations of the study, as well as recommendations for future research are discussed. / Department of Counseling Psychology and Guidance Services
