RESEARCH THE DIRECT IMPACT OF CRYPTOCURRENCY ON STOCK RETURN EXCEPTING THE INDIRECT IMPACT THROUGH OVERALL MARKET

Kong, Jianping January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation is to examine the direct impact of cryptocurrencies, primarily Bitcoin, on stock returns, as well as to analyze the characteristics of some of the companies which Bitcoin has a large impact on stock returns and the reasons why these phenomena occur. The study examines the returns of three variables, NSDQ100 Index, Bitcoin price, and stock prices of 101 enterprises within NSDQ100 by analyzing the monthly ended figures over the past five years. As the nature of Bitcoin that cannot be directly linked to stock returns, the direct impact of Bitcoin on stock return was discussed and analyzed through two regression analyses of NSDQ100 returns and stock returns, as well as NSDQ100 returns, bitcoin returns and stock returns. This study concludes that the direct impact of Bitcoin on the stock returns of companies in the Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors, which involve consumer goods, is significant; whereas its impact on the stock returns of companies in the Health Care sector and Consumer Discretionary sector that do not directly provide products is small. / Business Administration/Finance

The Norwegian Regime of Returns. A governmentality-perspective on the development of return practices in Norway

Karlsen, Therese Bosrup January 2016 (has links)
As immigration to Europe continuously increase, so does governments efforts to control and manage these moving populations, and their national borders. Today, returning migrants without a residence permit is often regarded as a natural measure within the immigration control apparatus, but the means to ensure return, the populations targeted and their legal rights have changed over time. This thesis aims to understand the developments of return policies in the case of Norway, from 1988-2010. By combining the analytical approach of governmentality with theorisations about deportations and migration policy development, I seek to understand how the return regime has been established and transformed. The analysis is based on policy documents as the main material, and the qualitative content analysis reveals that the return regime has developed from several measures initiated to achieve control over different challenging and unforeseen situations that arises throughout the period. Short term solutions create problems in the long run, and the solutions add on to create and establish the return regime.

Urban Renewal Investment: : A CASE STUDY OF HAMILTON, ONTARIO

Wilson, Tyler January 2016 (has links)
Urban Renewal activity can be attributed to the reuse and intensification of tertiary areas. Past research suggests areas of regeneration can perform at par and/or better then prime property sectors. Policy initiatives lowering perceived risk, attracting investment is conditional to the unique characteristics of renewal areas. As a progressive area of research there still remains insufficient data to quantify related returns and associated risks. Financial institutions tend to favor prime property and neglect tertiary areas. Local, smaller developers can comprehend the holistic nature of renewal investment. A comparative analysis of past urban renewal investment behavior with actors of renewal investment in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, were evaluated leading to empirical possibilities of investment alternatives.
