Defining the Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners in MIAM

Lucero, Samantha 01 January 2017 (has links)
Minimally invasive aesthetic medicine (MIAM) is a relatively new field, which lacks a clearly defined scope of practice. The purpose of this project was to clarify the scope of practice for nurse practitioners in MIAM in California. Without a clearly defined scope of practice, nurse practitioners are unable to practice to the full extent of their license which causes them to be underutilized and face liability issues. This project sought to answer the question: What is the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner in MIAM in the state of California? The model of professional nursing practice regulation was the model used to guide this project. Sources of evidence included case law that has emerged since 1983; reviewing documents from 3 state boards of nursing; and a survey of nurse practitioners who practice in the field of MIAM. The evidence was analyzed noting themes while determining what the legal backbone is for nurse practitioner's scope of practice in California. This project found that nurse practitioners in this field keep up to date in their knowledge, educate their patients, utilize methods to maintain competency, feel support in their environment, assess and refer to others when appropriate, and teach both staff and patients evidence-based practices. It also found that standardized procedures are the legal backbone to understanding the scope of practice in California. A scope of practice was developed based on the findings of this project which was then reviewed by an expert. It is recommended that nurse practitioners utilize their resources to obtain and maintain knowledge as well as learn what the standardized procedures are in their facility. The implications for clarifying the scope of practice will serve this population to fully utilize their capabilities and practice safely, as well as help to develop this relatively new field.

La quantification ramifiée en grammaire générative/Branching quantification in generative grammar

Berlanger, Isabelle 19 December 2005 (has links)
We carry out, within the framework of Chomskian generative grammar, a formal analysis of branching sentences in natural language (“Most linguists and most philosophers appreciate each other”). These sentences present quantifiers that are not linearly dependent, which must be treated "in parallel", whereas their surface order is necessarily linear. This phenomenon is known in logic as branching quantification. In generative grammar, branching quantification leads to contradictory requirements on the c-command relation: on the one hand, because of the absence of c-command between quantified constituents, one should have symmetry at LF; on the other hand, accepting Kayne's Linear Correspondence Axiom LCA, one should have antisymmetry of c-command at PF. To leave this dead end we introduce a new type of objects which we named twin objects (‘objets doubles' in French). Twin objects locally create nonlinear islands which make it possible to obtain the expected linearity at the surface without inducing dependence at the level of Logical Form. Their introduction is moreover justified by the treatment of coordination they allow, a phenomenon closely related to branching. Thanks to twin objects all types of branching, with or without coordination, receive an adequate representation, leading to a correct interpretation. Our results also find applications in epistemic modal logic and in the representation of multiple wh-questions.

Prosody by phase : evidence from focus intonation wh-scope correspondence in Japanese

Ishihara, Shinichiro January 2004 (has links)
Japanese wh-questions always exhibit focus intonation (FI). Furthermore, the domain of FI exhibits a correspondence to the wh-scope. I propose that this phonology-semantics correspondence is a result of the cyclic computation of FI, which is explained under the notion of Multiple Spell-Out in the recent Minimalist framework. The proposed analysis makes two predictions: (1) embedding of an FI into another is possible; (2) (overt) movement of a wh-phrase to a phase edge position causes a mismatch between FI and wh-scope. Both predictions are tested experimentally, and shown to be borne out.

Direct and indirect aboutness topics

Endriss, Cornelia, Hinterwimmer, Stefan January 2007 (has links)
We propose a definition of aboutness topicality that not only encompasses individual denoting DPs, but also indefinites. We concentrate on the interpretative effects of marking indefinites as topics: they either receive widest scope in their clause, or they are interpreted in the restrictor of an overt or covert Q-adverb. We show that in the first case they are direct aboutness topics insofar as they are the subject of a predication expressed by the comment, while in the second case they are indirect aboutness topics: they define the subject of a higher-order predication – namely the set of situations that the respective Q-adverb quantifies over.

Farm Diversification in Rural Areas of the Västra Götaland County in Sweden : Are there Evidence of Scope Economies?

Paramanathan, Mathivathana January 2006 (has links)
The thesis studies the impact of the financial support of the Environmental and Rural Devel-opment Programme of 2000-2006 on farm diversification and other activities in the rural areas of the Västra Götaland County for the period 2000-2005. Furthermore, it analyses if diver-sification within the firms has improved efficiency due to economies of scope. The statistical data of this study is based on a telephone survey of a total population of 50 firms that have received financial support for diversification, within the County of Västra Götaland. The response rate of the telephone survey was 80 per cent of the total popula-tion. The statistical analysis is based on chi-square and logit models in combination with a descriptive analysis in order to test the hypothesis of the thesis. Therefore, the empirical analysis has both a quantitative and a qualitative character. The result of the study shows that about 87.7 per cent of the surveyed firms have diversi-fied their economic activities during the years 2000-2005. Firms owned by women tend to have diversified to a larger extent compared to men. Further, women show a tendency to be more successful with a higher degree of diversification within the service sector com-pared to men. The enterprises within the production and refinement sectors have, on the other hand, a propensity to focus on traditional agricultural production despite the diversi-fication. A majority of the interviewed firms have received benefits from scope economies, which imply that the firms utilise joint production with shared inputs. The scope econo-mies existed among studied firms previous to the support and there are no significant changes in the economies of scope due to the financial support. Overall, the financial sup-port seems to have had a positive impact on the firms’ economic situation since none of the studied firms has experienced a decline in employment, turnover or income.

The Substantive Scope of Double Tax Treaties - a Study of Article 2 of the OECD Model Conventions

Brandstetter, Patricia 01 1900 (has links) (PDF)
Tax treaty protection from international double taxation only goes as far as the treaty's substantive scope. Nations worldwide have adopted the text of Article 2 of the OECD Model Double Taxation Conventions (headed Taxes covered) in concluding bilateral treaties to prevent double taxation in the area of taxes on income and capital and taxes on estates, inheritances, and on gifts. The wording and structure of Article 2 give rise to a host of ambiguities, creating uncertainty for taxpayers regarding the taxes that come within treaty scope. A research strategy that draws on historic materials documenting the development of Article 2 throughout the League of Nations, OEEC, and OECD seeks to shed light on a provision that has retained its basic format and wording since the 1920s. Recent case law and academic literature are analyzed to gain a clearer picture of the common international concepts expressed in tax treaties that use the formulations proposed in the OECD Model Conventions. The research strategy, conceptual models, and proposed results aim to contribute to the understanding of the "taxes covered" and to guide subsequent research and heighten awareness of problems in the interpretation and application of the provision on substantive scope in tax treaties.(author's abstract)

Copyright in Social Media : A Preparatory Study in Access to Protected YouTube Clips

Vintersvärd, Anna January 2011 (has links)
Social media, such as YouTube, contain different types of information provided by the users. Because of the popularity and ability to reach out to others, coprorations might want to use this information in its advertising. However, some of the information is copyright protected works. How can a coproration use the limitations in the copyright protection to its advantage? Even when it is allowed to use the work with regard to the limitations in the copyright protection, attention must be paid to personal information and marketing provisions. This bachelor's thesis disclosures the method by which a work or the information is legally eccessed for advertising purposes.

An Examination Of Quantifier Scope Ambiguity In Turkish

Kurt, Kursad 01 September 2006 (has links) (PDF)
This study investigates the problem of quantifier scope ambiguity in natural languages and the various ways with which it has been accounted for, some of which are problematic for monotonic theories of grammar like Combinatory Categorial Grammar (CCG) which strive for solutions that avoid non-monotonic functional application, and assume complete transparency between the syntax and the semantics interface of a language. Another purpose of this thesis is to explore these proposals on examples from Turkish and to try to account for the meaning differences that may be caused by word order and see how the observations from Turkish fit within the framework of CCG.

Hur en okontrollerad expansion av IT-projekts omfattning undviks

Strandberg, Mikael, Abdiu, Daniel, Stridsberg, Martin January 2006 (has links)

Today there is an even higher demand on IT-projects success rate compared to a few years ago. IT-projects must be handled more efficiently and result in a more profitable investment. In order to make the handling of IT-projects more efficient and create profitability the developers must have a broad understanding of the IT-projects characteristics and which factors that affect the result of the projects. Changes within IT-projects are often carried out through the development of a system. Since this change is more common when it comes to IT-projects it is important to handle risk and change within these kinds of projects in order to prevent and avoid uncontrolled changes. Our purpose with this thesis is to investigate if change is a problem in IT-projects. Thereafter we identify and examine procedures to avoid uncontrolled changes within IT-projects and to prevent an unplanned expansion of the project scope. The thesis also results in a method of how this change can be controlled. The thesis has been conducted by studying theory about IT-projects, system development and change management. Further on a qualitative study has been conducted where three persons from different system development companies has been interviewed. After an analysis of the theoretical framework and the empirical research a method has been developed. This method describes the change management process and should function as a support for a more effective handling of changes in order to prevent that uncontrolled changes arises. The method illuminates the importance of a common understanding, planning and identification & priority as three factors in order to create an effective change management. Further on we emphasize the necessity of having a structure of control which covers all steps in the method. Finally we describe how the step of handling change is conducted by presenting the necessary steps to prevent that uncontrolled changes arises.
/
