The New Beauty Council (NBC) project, in its different forms and shapes, is about the multiple perceptions of urban space and design. NBC’s work includes performances, public projects, speaker series, urban curating and collaborations that engage innovative strategies of production as well as dialogues. NBC investigates how concepts of the public are constituted and how beauty and ugliness can be (re-)defined. Using the idea of the carnivalesque as a method, NBC engages with organizations and institutions, which shape and interpret cities through public conversations and staged situations. The founding members are Annika Enqvist, Anna Kharkina, Thérèse Kristiansson and Kristoffer Svenberg. A recent project is Changed Perspectives c/o Stockholm City Museum – comprising four public talks about living in and making use of Stockholm as a city. These conversations were curated and performed by Annika Enqvist and Thérèse Kristiansson.1 The research and subjects of the series in general, and one of the talks; Whatever Blows Our Trumpet in particular, are the basis of this paper. We as individuals are constantly interacting with our surrounding environment. These interactions bring us and the environment to life. It is an intra-action (Karen Barad) where we are constantly becoming to life by intra-acting with and as part of the surrounding environment. Here surrounding environment is all the materiality and the socio-cultural norms which we live in. We experience the world through these interactions. Hence the experience becomes temporal arising through the materiality and changes depending upon our past experiences, future expectations and emotions attached to them. This thesis is about the experience of togetherness, as it is experienced by two long time friends ina pre-arranged meeting. Two friends arrange such meetings to spend time together where sharing is an important aspect. The meeting is an interaction where togetherness is built over a short period of time. These two friends perform a practice apart from the sharing e.g. drinking a coffee. This practice and the materiality involved in it enrich the experience and facilitate being together by performing the practice together. Meetings like these are not always possible. Physical distance between the two friends makes it difficult to meet. Mobile telecommunication and the increasing popularity of social- network sites which allow chatting has bridged this gap considerably. Their popularity indicates the need of a communication which can offer similar experience as being together. This experience is not similar to the experience had in a meeting. This research is a process of designing a concept for a communication device. The process involves a methodology which combines field observations and developing a theory to understand and analyse the experience, which then can be used in an empathic way to design a product concept. The research in the end proposes guidelines to design interaction between two individuals. The designconcept is an iteration of a possible accessory to a mobile phone which facilitates a similar experience of togetherness. Syftet med mitt arbete var att undersöka hur textillärare ser på och arbetar med elevens planering i grundskolan. Jag valde ämnet för att kursplanen för slöjd betonar planering upprepade gånger. Jag ville förstå vad planering innebär samt undersöka hur man rent praktiskt kan arbeta med det som lärare. Jag har genomfört kvalitativa intervjuer med fyra textillärare i Västerbotten och har bedrivit omfattande litteraturstudier som jag ställer mot intervjuresultaten. Jag frågar vad lärarna anser att elevens planering innebär, hur de arbetar med den samt hur de bedömer och betygsätter den. Resultatet visar att alla informanter anser att planering utgör en stor del av slöjden men att de värderar den olika i sin undervisning samt när de ska bedöma och betygsätta eleven. Deras personliga tolkning av och inställning till planering avgör hur de arbetar med den. Två av mina informanter använder skriftlig planering och två muntlig. Det finns även olika sorters planering: tidsplanering, arbetsplanering, kreativ planering och utvärdering.

Arbetet söker kartlägga visuell kultur som begrepp och pedagogisk strategi. Med utgångspunkt i teorier kring visuell kultur inom olika discipliner och utifrån olika länders definitioner undersöks visuell kulturpedagogik i Danmark. En central fråga i arbetet är huruvida visuell kultur är ett nytt bildämne eller en angelägenhet för skolans alla ämnen. Undersökningen är hermeneutisk och består av tolkningar utifrån litteratur och intervjuer. För att se hur visuell kultur som pedagogisk strategi fungerar i praktiken har kvalitativa intervjuer genomförts med tre verksamma lärare i Danmark. Databearbetningen av materialet har sedan skett mot bakgrund av de skrifter och teorier som behandlar området visuell kultur. Det som framkommit i arbetet är att visuell kultur i Danmark utvecklats till en visuell kulturpedagogik som skall ses som ett förslag till ett självständigt fält eller ämnesområde. Pedagogiken presenterar ett teoretiskt ramverk som bygger på reflektionsteorier med det visuella som utgångspunkt. Med avstamp i sociokulturella teoribildningar står seendet i centrum i form av olika seendepraktiker, där blick, billeder, begivenhed och betragter är centrala begrepp. Pedagogiken erbjuder en metod som kan användas i skolans alla ämnen. Visuell kulturpedagogik är inte en fråga om ett nytt bildämne, eller en del av bildämnet utan ett nytt kunskapsfält, där det visuella är utgångspunkten för reflektion och utvecklande av kunskap.

During the 1920’s the town of Bollnäs had the ambition to expand. The expansion included a merger with Björkhamre and the colonization of unused areas, e.g. the area around Onbacken. The archaeologist Gustaf Hallström came to Bollnäs to investigate an ancient tomb located on Onbacken. During his investigation he found an ancient monument, one of its kind in Bollnäs and Sweden. Hallström believed it was a remnant of a temple dating from the time of the Vikings/ the Middle Ages. The local press wrote about the excavation and the articles shows that many of the locals attended the lectures held by Hallström during that time. There was some interest among the locals, as this was a time when nationalism was strong and it made a significant impact on Sweden's identity. It was also a time when Archaeology gained foothold as one of the fundamental parts of investigating and writing about history. The unique excavation finding of the temple gave Bollnäs a golden opportunity to create a local identity and make the town known nationwide. This essay will show that the local inhabitants didn't utilize the finding. That they didn't use it as a part of the creation of the local identity. There are several reasons to why this occurred, for instance, the findings where never questioned as the excavation was seen as an elite project. The extent of the excavation and the temple’s significance was above the locals’ understanding. The locals’ main focus during that time was aimed towards other interests. This essay is about a finding that should have been a part of the local identity, but wasn't.

Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka hur förändring av material påverkar varseblivningen av objekt när formen lämnas oförändrad. Detta kan vara av intresse då spel med realistisk grafisk stil blir mer och mer högupplöst vilket samtidigt ställer högre krav på de grafiska utvecklarna att framställa verklighetstrogna material. Jag har utfört en kvalitativ undersökning med personintervjuer av sex personer. Dessa sex personer har fått se tre objekt där de fått definiera objektets syfte. Intervjupersonerna fick sedan se objekten med olika material där mina frågor haft som mål att få respondenten att motivera uppfattat material samt det uppfattade materialets egenskaper. De intervjuades motiveringar om objekt och material har jag sedan tolkat utifrån litteratur om psykologi, främst om kategorisering som George Lakoffs bok "Women, Fire, and Dangerous Things" (1990) beskriver. Min undersökning har visat att uppfattningen av textur kan förändra ett objekts syfte och funktion. In the following essay I offer an analysis of the concept of genealogy in the works of Friedrich Nietzsche and Michel Foucault. The genealogical is illuminated as a critical approach, a period and a method. Taking as a point of departure Foucault‘s description of genealogy as a historico-philosophical method, with which we can approach the question of how we constitute ourselves as human beings, by analyzing our ideas about knowledge, morals and the self as an acting subject, I go back to Nietzsche, from where Foucault derives his genealogical project. By analyzing how Nietzsche examines the three domains of genealogy, found in Foucault‘s description – knowledge, morals and the subject – I thereby present a way to read, understand and use the works of Nietzsche, a reading of Nietzsche which at the same time brings out some of the core topics, offering a more profound understanding of Foucault‘s genealogical project. My overall reading will show that one of the main aspects of what can be understood as the genealogical method is to locate concepts that constitute the way we think and act. In trying to determine the social and practical settings where these concepts take on form and content, the genealogy demystifies the located constituting concepts, offering new perspectives on how the present lives its past. This reading will show how the genealogy interweaves the philosophical and historical, at the same time exposing the problematic and varying practical and social settings that produce and uphold the inevitable link between the political and the human.
