[en] WEAK SOLUTIONS FOR ELLIPTIC PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS OF SECOND ORDER / [pt] SOLUÇÕES FRACAS DE EQUAÇÕES DIFERENCIAIS ELÍPTICAS DE SEGUNDA ORDEMGABRIEL DE LIMA MONTEIRO 08 January 2019 (has links)
[en] This dissertation aims to be an introduction to the study of the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions for elliptic partial differential equations. We begin by defining the Sobolev spaces and proving some basics properties that will assist in the study of the elliptical equations. Lastly, we develop the Theorems of Lax-Milgram and Stampacchia that allow the use of Functional Analysis for the studying of some examples of elliptic equations.

[en] The main objective of this dissertation is to study Harnack s inequality
and Holder s estimates for a second-order elliptic operator, written in the non-divergent form and in the divergent form, respectively, where the coefficient functions are measurable and bounded functions in a domain omega contained in Rn.

[pt] REPRESENTAÇÃO ESTOCÁSTICA PARA SOLUÇÕES DO PROBLEMA DE DIRICHLET PARA EQUAÇÕES DIFERENCIAIS PARCIAIS ELÍPTICAS / [en] STOCHASTIC REPRESENTATION FOR SOLUTIONS OF THE DIRICHLET PROBLEM FOR ELLIPTIC PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONSCLAUSON CARVALHO DA SILVA 01 September 2016 (has links)
do processo. Apresentaremos também a fórmula de Dynkin. Com essas ferramentas
probabilísticas, encontraremos uma representação estocástica para a
solução do problema de Dirichlet para operadores diferenciais elípticos, generalizando
as soluções dos problemas inicialmente propostos. / [en] Firstly, for motivation purposes, we briefly present a few problems mixing
notions of probability theory and of partial differential equations (PDE). In
discussing the solution to such problems it will become apparent that some
stochastic process and differential equations walk together. Next, we introduce
a class of stochastic processes called the Ito diffusions, and some of its features
such as the Markov property. Each such process has an associated linear
operator the, so called, infinitesimal generator. This operator acts as a second-order
differential operator on smooth functions, and controls the LOCAL
behavior of these diffusions. We discuss these features together with Dynkin s
formula a convenient relation derived from the infinitesimal generator, which
informs us about the AVERAGE behavior of the diffusion. Finally, we apply
these probabilistic tools to find a formula for the solution of the Dirichlet
problem for a somewhat general linear elliptic second order PDE. This formula
connects the solution of the PDE to the aggregated/average behavior and
associated (Ito) diffusion. This type of stochastic representation generalizes
the solution method of the problems firstly discussed.

[en] A RBF APPROACH TO THE CONTROL OF PDES USING DYNAMIC PROGRAMMING EQUATIONS / [pt] UM MÉTODO BASEADO EM RBF PARA O CONTROLE DE EDPS USANDO EQUAÇÕES DE PROGRAMAÇÃO DINÂMICAHUGO DE SOUZA OLIVEIRA 04 November 2022 (has links)
mostrarão a eficácia do método proposto.
[en] Semi-Lagrangian schemes for the approximation of the dynamic programming
principle are based on a time discretization projected on a state-space
grid. The use of a structured grid makes this approach not feasible for highdimensional
problems due to the curse of dimensionality. In this thesis, we
present a new approach for infinite horizon optimal control problems where
the value function is computed using Radial Basis Functions (RBF) by the
Shepard s moving least squares approximation method on scattered grids. We
propose a new method to generate a scattered mesh driven by the dynamics
and an optimal routine to select the shape parameter in the RBF. This mesh
will help to localize the problem and approximate the dynamic programming
principle in high dimension. Error estimates for the value function are also
provided. Numerical tests for high dimensional problems will show the effectiveness
of the proposed method. In addition to the optimal control of classical
PDEs, we show how the method can also be applied to the control of nonlocal
equations. We also provide an example analyzing the numerical convergence
of a nonlocal controlled equation towards the continuous model.
