[en] COMPUTATIONAL MODELLING OF SEMI-RIGID STEEL PORTAL FRAMES / [pt] MODELAGEM COMPUTACIONAL DE ESTRUTURAS DE AÇO COM LIGAÇÕES SEMI-RÍGIDASALEXANDRE ALMEIDA DEL SAVIO 14 April 2004 (has links)
discretização do carregamento.
[28]. / [en] Over the past few years various researchers have been
developing geometrically non-linear finite elements
formulations with the purpose of examining the behaviour of
frames with semi-rigid connections. Among these works it is
appropriate to mention Chan and Chui, [6], that developed a
hybrid finite bar element containing two rotational springs
condensed at its extremities. As this hybrid finite
element, Chan and Chui [6] was implemented and tested in
the solver FEMOOP, [28], it was verified that it presented
an inadequate representation of bending moments, when
distributed loads were used. This verification led the
implementation of a rotational spring finite element
that could tackle any loading conditions. The use of this
element enables the users to accurate model the structural
behaviour, without the need of any additional loading
discretization. Additionally, this connection element also
allows elasto-plastic simulation analyses of the
connections, and even of the structures bars, to be
performed. The main objective of the present investigation
was to validate, based in updated literature
investigations, the finite element formulations implemented.
These procedures included linear (hybrid element and
connection element) and non-linear (connection element)
analysis of semi-rigid structural systems. The
implementations were made by the development of a system,
called FTOOL/SRC. This system enables parametric analyses
of semi-rigid connections to be performed in a simple and
compact form due to the use of an efficient graphic
interface and a compact external solver FEMOOP [28].

[en] BEHAVIOUR OF STRUCTURAL STEEL ENDPLATE JOINTS SUBJECTED TO BENDING MOMENT AND AXIAL FORCE / [pt] COMPORTAMENTO DE LIGAÇÕES COM PLACA DE EXTREMIDADE EM ESTRUTURAS DE AÇO SUBMETIDAS A MOMENTO FLETOR E FORÇA AXIALLUCIANO RODRIGUES ORNELAS DE LIMA 19 November 2003 (has links)
fletor
com um nível de rotação associado. Estas ligações são
chamadas semi-rígidas e seu dimensionamento deve ser
executado de acordo com este comportamento estrutural
real.
incompletos.
viga é a única condição imposta no Eurocode 3. O objetivo
deste trabalho é descrever alguns resultados
experimentais
capacidade
de rotação. / [en] Traditionally, the steel portal frame design assumes that beam-to-column
joints are rigid or pinned. Rigid joints, where no relative rotations occur between
the connected members, transfer not only substantial bending moments, but also
shear and axial forces. On the other extreme, pinned joints, are characterised by
almost free rotation movement between the connected elements that prevents
the transmission of bending moments.
Despite these facts, it is largely recognised that the great majority of joints
does not exhibit such idealised behaviour. In fact, many joints transfer some
bending moments associated with rotations. These joints are called semi-rigid,
and their design should be performed according to their real structural behaviour.
However, some steel beam-to-column joints are often subjected to a
combination of bending and axial forces. The level of axial forces in the joint may
be significant, typical of pitched-roof portal frames, sway frames or frames with
incomplete floors. Current standard for steel joints do not take into account the
presence of axial forces (tension and/or compression) in the joints. A single
empirical limitation of 5 percent of the beam s plastic axial capacity is the only enforced
provision in Annex J of Eurocode 3. The objective of the present work is to
describe some experimental and numerical results to extend the philosophy of
the component method to deal with the combined action of bending and axial
forces. To fulfil this objective a set of sixteen specimens were performed and a
mechanical model was developed to be used in the evaluation of the joint
properties: bending moment resistance, initial stiffness and rotation capacity.

[en] SEMI-RIGID COMPOSITE SYSTEMS FOR RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS / [pt] DESENVOLVIMENTO DE SISTEMAS ESTRUTURAIS SEMI-RÍGIDOS EM AÇO E MISTOS PARA EDIFICAÇÕES RESIDENCIAIS MULTI-FAMILIARESOLAVO FERREIRA BRITO JUNIOR 26 December 2001 (has links)
no regime semi-rígido.
Revisado do Eurocode 3.
[en] Nowadays, despite the substantial increase in structural
design knowledge, the semi-rigid connections steel design
is still facing resistance from the structural engineers.
This fact can be in part explained by few design standards
that allows and explains their use, suitable computer
programs and the lack of detailed information of
the economical advantages of the semi-rigid design
philosophy. This work presents a parametric analysis
performed on a residential low-rise steel building
considering all the steps necessary to a semi-rigid design.
This analysis considered parameters like: beam-to-column
connection stiffness and strength, structural system (steel
or composite) and lateral frame stability (sway and non-sway
frame solutions). The analysed structure consisted on a
standard four pavements residential building proposed by a
Brazilian Steel Mill Usiminas for low-cost popular
constructions. Initially all the structure beam-to-column
connections adopted a standard connection stiffness. The
study continued with optimised connection stiffness for
each of the designed structural frames. The first part of
the present work is devoted to a full description of the
design procedures proposed in the Eurocode 3, revised annex
J for semi-rigid connection design. Based on this
methodology a simple design model was proposed and
implemented with the aid of the finite element program
Ansys. The model included geometrical and material non-
linearities and considered the connections semi-rigid
behaviour avoiding the conventional approximations
suggested in several current steel design standards.
The results of this investigations are presented, discussed
and compared to standard designs like the Usiminas proposal
as means to access the economic potential and efficiency of
the semi-rigid solutions. The best structural solution for
the investigated construction was a non-sway composite semi-
rigid (40 percent of the rigid capacity). The economy achieved
were: 48 percent and 10 percent when compared to other semi-rigid
solutions and the conventional Usiminas solution,
respectively. This figures changed to 53 percent and 15 percent when
optimised connections were used in each structural
frame. The presented results confirm the advantage of the
use of this connections kind in residential buildings in
steel of low height.

[en] ANALYSIS OF THE INTERACTION EFECT BETWEEN STEEL AND CONCRETE ON THE DYNAMICAL RESPONSE OF COMPOSITE FLOORS / [pt] ANÁLISE DO EFEITO DA INTERAÇÃO AÇO-CONCRETO SOBRE A RESPOSTA DINÂMICA DE PISOS MISTOSANTONIO VICENTE DE ALMEIDA MELLO 28 July 2010 (has links)
O objetivo do sistema misto é a combinação
parcial e as ligações semirrígidas.
[en] Over the years the steel-concrete interaction have been achieving excelent
results, in terms of structural performance. This fact have enlarged the range of
applications of concrete and steel structures enabling the development of efficient
solutions that attend the demands claimed by the market and by increasinly daring
architectures. The composite action main objective is to combine steel and
concrete into single structural system where the optimum performance of the
combined elements could be explored. The concrete is used to sustain
compressive while the steel is better used when submitted to tension. These
singular characteristics of the composite systems, on the other hand, lead to
composite structural systems with natural frequencies close to the frequency
associated to human induced loads. Usually the design of composite structures is
focused on verifications related to ultimate limit states associated to strength and
stability, but the problems related to serviceability limit states should also be
carefully considered. Despite the fact that floor vibration induced by human
activity has been extensively investigated in the past (1828-2009) there is still a
lack of published information on theoretical-experimental correlations on the
dynamic response of composite structures specially after considering effects
releted to partial interaction, orthotropy and semi-rigid connections. The present
study has the objective of contributing in the direction of better understand the
effect of the steel-concrete interaction on the composite floor system dynamic
response.

[en] STATIC AND DYNAMIC INSTABILITY OF PLANE FRAMES WITH SEMI-RIGID CONNECTIONS / [pt] INSTABILIDADE ESTÁTICA E DINÂMICA DE PÓRTICOS PLANOS COM LIGAÇÕES SEMI-RÍGIDASALEXANDRE DA SILVA GALVAO 20 December 2004 (has links)
Inicialmente é apresentada a
programas implementados. Então é apresentada a formulação
A solução desse sistema
Alguns
no comportamento estrutural. / [en] The main objective of this thesis is to develop a numerical
methodology for the nonlinear static and dynamics analysis
of plane frames with semi-rigid connections. Initially, the
formulations of the adopted finite elements are presented
and implemented together with numerical methodologies for
the solution of the non-linear equilibrium equations. Then,
some examples of strongly nonlinear structural systems
under static loads are studied to check the methodology.
Subsequently, the ordinary differential equations of motion
are derived and the corresponding damping and mass matrices
are presented. The solution of this system of ordinary
differential equations is obtained by implicit or explicit
numerical integration methods. Some of these methods are
presented in this work and incorporated into the
computational program together with adaptive strategies for
the automatic increment of the time step (delta)t. Finally,
the computational system here developed is used to study
the static and dynamic response of some plain structural
systems with an inherent nonlinear behavior. A detailed
parametric study is carried out to identify the influence
of physical and geometric parameters on the structural
behavior. This enables the analysis of some important
static and dynamic instability phenomena and identification
of possible mechanisms of collapse.

[en] STRUCTURAL EVALUATION OF END PLATE STEEL SEMI-RIGID CONNECTIONS / [pt] AVALIAÇÃO ESTRUTURAL DE LIGAÇÕES SEMI-RÍGIDAS EM AÇO COM PLACA DE EXTREMIDADEFERNANDO BUSATO RAMIRES 30 April 2004 (has links)
[pt] As ligações viga-pilar desempenham uma função fundamental
mecânicas destas ligações, substituindo as tradicionais
comportamento estrutural destas ligações a partir
componentes apresentadas no Eurocode 3. / [en] The beam-to-column connections play fundamental role in the
determination of the real behavior of steel structures.
Therefore it is imperative to proper evaluate and
consider the real geometric and mechanical properties of
these connections, substituting the traditional idealized
considerations, rigid and flexible, for the semi-rigid
modelling approach. Nowadays one of the most used methods
in the semi-rigid connection design is named
the components method, described in the Eurocode 3. This
method is based on the determination of the connection
bending capacity and initial stiffness from the most
relevant structural element parts. The main objective of
this investigation was to evaluate the semi-rigid connection
structural response. This was made by the development of a
computer system capable to properly evaluate the behaviour
of these connections. This program used the end plate
beam-to-column connection material and geometric properties
to fulfil this objective, producing a comprehensive
database later to be used for more reliable structural
project. Additionally an optimisation module was also
implemented on the semi-rigid connection program, using
genetic algorithms, where through the variation of certain
geometric parameters, chosen in accordance to the user's
requirements, the ideal connection structural behaviour
could be determined from a range of pertinent solutions.
Concluding the present study an alternative procedure is
proposed for header plate connections where traditionally
only shear was assumed to be transmitted. These
connections were analysed according to the component
method, to determine their bending and shear resistance,
initial stiffness and rotation capacity, through
modifications made on the relevant structural components
presented in Eurocode 3 standard.

behavior of steel and composite structures. Therefore it is necessary a very careful
assessment of the real geometrical and mechanical characteristics of these joints,
replacing the traditional idealized considerations, rigid and flexible for modeling
semi-rigid steel or composite. With the intention of continuing the study of semirigid
connections in steel and develop a study on the semi-rigid composite
connections, was initially performed a revision of startled presenting the
parameters to be developed in this research. We have implemented a
computational system analysis and design capable of evaluating the structural
behavior of these joints from the information of the geometric properties of beamcolumn
connection with end plate executed in steel and composited, producing a
database for a structural design safer. An experimental project was designed to
evaluate the path transmittance of efforts, through experimental models of
laboratory tests in the form of modified pull-out, adapting this test for regions of
negative moment, where the concrete slab is cracked, obtaining a test that can
produce results that contribute for the development of research of semi-rigid
connections in steel and composite.
