[en] DIGITAL TEACHING MATERIALS: EXPERIENCES OF PRODUCTION AND USE IN POST-GRADUATE IN DESIGN AT PUC-RIO / [pt] MATERIAL DIDÁTICO DIGITAL: EXPERIÊNCIAS DE PRODUÇÃO E USO NA PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM DESIGN NA PUC-RIOPATRICIA CASTRO FERREIRA 07 August 2013 (has links)
desses materiais. Sob essa perspectiva, a presente tese abordou o planejamento, a
A pesquisa
[en] This research had as objective to reflect on strategies for the design of
digital learning materials aimed at post-graduate courses. Several investigations
have been undertaken on planning, development, quality and evaluation of digital
material for educational purposes. From these reports, we highlight the
importance of experimentation to enhance knowledge, identify potential resources
and skills for the proposition of these materials. From this perspective, this thesis
addressed the design, production and analysis of digital learning materials for two
courses offered by the Post-graduate Program in Design at PUC-Rio. The research
was oriented towards practices that promote flexibility in production and use of
educational materials, allowing greater autonomy to the teachers over their
teaching activity. The two examined experiments point to the fact that it is not
possible to define a single model for addressing educational initiatives aimed at
graduate school. Each demand requires a specific plan, considering the
pedagogical architecture and strategies for teaching and learning. The
investigation was characterized as a exploratory research with qualitative
approach, justified by the object of study that is in a movement of construction
and experimentation from carrying out various experiments to create and use.
The research sought to provide an expansion of existing references on the
preparation and analysis of educational materials, as well as contributing as an
incentive to reflect on new virtual spaces for the production of knowledge at the
Post-graduate in Design.

[en] PLUGGING OIL WELLS: AN INVESTIGATION OF EXCHANGE FLOWS / [pt] POSICIONAMENTO DE TAMPÕES EM POÇOS DE PETRÓLEO: UMA INVESTIGAÇÃO DE ESCOAMENTOS DE INVERSÃO POR GRAVIDADEPRISCILLA RIBEIRO VARGES 24 October 2017 (has links)
e elásticos do material.
tamponamento. / [en] Cement plug placement in oil industry operations represents an example of buoyancy-driven exchange flows. This situation is highly unstable since cement is usually denser than well fluid and, as a consequence, their positions tend to invert. The present study aims to improve the perception
of the physical mechanisms associated to cement plug operations through the analysis of exchange flows. To this end, visualization experiments are performed with denser liquid positioned above a lower-density liquid in a vertical tube. In addition, the interface front speed is determined through image processing and analysis. The influence of the governing parameters is investigated on the speed of inversion and flow regime. The first stage of the study consists of conducting experiments with pairs of immiscible Newtonian liquids with small density difference. Two different flow regimes were examined, namely, falling drops and falling slugs. Experimental results demonstrate that the terminal velocity can be estimated by empirical
correlations for falling rigid spheres within a tube. The second stage of the research consists of an exchange flow analysis considering an elastoviscoplastic thixotropic fluid above a less dense Newtonian oil. Three different flow regimes were observed, namely unstable, quasi-stable, and stable (no flow). The unstable regime is a wavy core-annular flow with the denser liquid in the core. In the quasi-stable regime a slow plug flow starts after a time delay, which is a function of material thixotropic and elastic effects.
Through analysis of the experimental results it is possible to identify, for a given pair of fluids, the operational window in the governing parameter space within which the speed of inversion is sufficiently low (or zero) to ensure the cement plug operation success.

[en] ANALYSIS OF THE APPLICATION OF PVDF IN PIPES FOR MEASURING WATER FLOW RATE / [pt] ANÁLISE DA APLICAÇÃO DO PVDF EM TUBULAÇÕES PARA MEDIÇÃO DE VAZÃO DE ÁGUAKHRISSY ARACELLY REIS MEDEIROS 09 January 2019 (has links)
[en] The mechanical, rheological and electrical properties of polymer poly (vinylidene fluoride) - PVDF - have been extensively studied, but in particular it is its piezoelectric property that motivates most of the works, since the piezoelectricity occurs in few materials and is more intense in PVDF relative to other polymers. The key factor that defines the range of applications of piezoelectric polymers is their use in the conception of transducers, sensors and actuators. In this sense, the present research analyzes the applicability of the PVDF polymer in pipes for the measurement of water flow rate, using as flow measurement method the Flow Induced Vibration (FIV) technique, considering the peculiar piezoelectric properties of the polymorph PVDF-B(beta). In general, the FIV is a phenomenon that causes instability of the pipes that transport fluids, considered as an operational problem that occurs in many industrial plants. However, this phenomenon has been investigated as a flow rate measurement technique, which considers that the mass of a fluid can be indirectly measured by measuring the acceleration it transmits to another body, so that the standard deviation of the signal of the measured vibration increases with the flow rate, being better adjusted by a second degree polynomial. The work methodology consisted in characterizing the material spectroscopically, using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) techniques; electromechanically, in a mechanical shaker at the Optical Fiber Sensors Laboratory of the Mechanical Engineering Department of PUC-Rio; and finally in a test hydraulic circuit of the Laboratory of Fluid Flow of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of PUC-Rio. Tests were carried out in order to identify the levels of electrical voltages generated by the vibration caused by the passage of water in the PVDF tube. In order to compare the vibration signals, simultaneous measurements were made with accelerometers and a PVDF film. To measure the deformation in the tube, Bragg Network sensors were
adopted. The results of the FIV tests allowed concluding that the standard deviation of the voltage signal measured by the PVDF tube is proportional to the flow rate. However, some variables had to be controlled. The uncertainties associated with flow rate measurement by tube showed a considerable reduction in the higher flow rates. On the other hand, in the lower levels of flow rate a very great instability was observed, possibly due to the process of initial mechanical accommodation of the tube. Nevertheless, a strong relationship between the signal generated by the PVDF tube and the flow rate that induced this vibration allowed that the applicability of the PVDF tube as a water flow meter was proved.

[en] STUDY OF THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF THE SUSPENDED PARTICULATE MATTER IN THE AIR IN RIO DE JANEIRO CITY / [pt] ESTUDO DA COMPOSIÇÃO QUÍMICA DO MATERIAL PARTICULADO EM SUSPENSÃO NO AR NA CIDADE DO RIO DE JANEIRODANIELA SILVEIRA SOLURI 27 October 2005 (has links)
Gurgel, Jacarepaguá, Campo Grande, Tijuca, Ilha do Fundão,
Guaratiba,
As
amostragens foram realizadas, simultaneamente, sempre no
meio da semana,
durante 24 horas, e compreenderam o período de
setembro/2003 a
setembro/2004. Ao final deste período, foram obtidas, por
ponto de
amostragem, trinta amostras de cada fração, totalizando
seiscentas amostras.
outra parte, a
particulado grosso
Vermelha e a Avenida Brasil.
apresentaram as
menores concentrações de particulado fino, grosso e de
carbono elementar.
Janeiro. Como
esperado, o particulado grosso é, em grande parte, oriundo
da ressuspensão do solo, contendo, ainda, aerossol marinho
e compostos de origem secundária,
como sulfato e nitrato. O particulado fino, por sua vez, é
majoritariamente
[en] The present work intend to be a contribution for the
understanding of the
air pollution in the Rio de Janeiro city, aerosol sampling
was performed at ten
different sites of the city: Gávea, Honório Gurgel,
Jacarepaguá, Campo Grande,
Tijuca, Ilha do Fundão, Guaratiba, Recreio dos
Bandeirantes, Santa Cruz and
Realengo. Stacked filter units (SFU), developed by Gent
University, were used
as samplers. These filters separate the particles into two
main fractions: the fine
mode defined as respirable particles (with aerodynamic
diameter < 2.5 um,
PM2.5), and coarse mode defined as inhalable particles
(with aerodynamic
diameter between 2.5 um and 10 um, PM2.5-10). The aerosol
monitoring stations
were simultaneously operated, always in the middle of the
week, during 24 h,
from September/2003 to September/2004. At the end of this
period, 30 samples
of each fraction were obtained from each of the sampling
sites (600 filter
samples in total). After the determination of the mass
concentration, and the
elemental carbon amount present in each of the fine
filters, the filters were
divided into two parts. The first part was used to
determine the concentration of
ammonium, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride,
nitrate and
sulfate soluble in water and, the other one, for the
determination of the
concentration of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium,
aluminum, iron and
titanium. The Honório Gurgel site presented, in average,
the highest
concentration of elemental carbon, mass concentration of
coarse mode and
total particle mass concentration, which could be
explained by the proximity to
the Avenida Brasil and industries of the region. The
sampling site of the highest
concentration of the fine mode and secondary aerosol was
the one localized in
Ilha do Fundão, near industrial areas such as Bonsucesso
and São Cristóvão,
and heavy automobile traffic lines like Linha Vermelha and
Avenida Brasil. In
other hand, the sites localized at Recreio dos
Bandeirantes and at Guaratiba
presented in the smallest mass concentration of fine and
coarse mode and
elemental carbon. Based on these determined parameters, it
was possible to
identify 70% of the origin of the material present in the
fine ad coarse fractions
of the particulate matter suspended in the air in the
studied areas of Rio de
Janeiro city. As expected, the coarse mode particle came
from resuspended soil dust, together with marine aerosol
and some secondary aerosol, like nitrate
and sulfate. The fine mode particle came mainly from
fossil fuel combustion that
originates secondary aerosol and the elemental carbon,
with additional
contribution from marine aerosol and terrigineous material.

[en] MOVING IMAGES: MULTIMODALITY IN THE TEACHING MATERIALS FOR ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE / [pt] IMAGENS EM MOVIMENTO: A MULTIMODALIDADE NO MATERIAL PARA O ENSINO DE INGLÊS COMO LÍNGUA ESTRANGEIRAMARCIA OLIVE NOVELLINO 18 October 2012 (has links)
[en] Multimodality is a research area that has recently gained attention in academic and intellectual communities, because of the interest in understanding the interconnections between various modes of communication in contemporary society. The topic is of great interest for English language teaching, considering the wealth of materials that combine the various modes of communication. The present study focuses on the moving images in an English language course book and other teaching material, with the objective of contributing to investigations on the diversity of modes in multimodal texts. The study follows a qualitative-interpretative paradigm (Erickson, 1996; Moita Lopes, 1994, 1996) as used in the areas of multimodality and applied linguistics. Designed to address questions concerning multiliteracies (Kress, 2000, 2005; Cope e Kalantzis, 2000; Rojo, 2009) and English language teaching, the theoretical structure is based on a social semiotic perspective (Halliday, 1978) of looking into meaning. In this perspective, the elaboration of meaning is treated as a social construct (Halliday and Hasan, 1989; Halliday, 1994; Halliday and Matthiessen, 2004). Social semiotics, as formulated by Halliday in his Systemic Functional Linguistics, thus provides the theoretical support for multimodal studies (Kress e van Leeuwen, 1996, 2006; Kress; 2010; van Leeuwen, 2005) since it shows how modes working together in an interaction can potentially realize meaning in different social, situational and cultural contexts. The study uses two multimodal approaches: a. social semiotic multimodal analysis (Kress, 2009, 2010; Van Leuween, 2005; Kress e van Leuween, 1996, 2006) and b. an interactional multimodal analysis (Norris, 2004, 2009), in order to investigate DVD moving images of a series of English language course books and material and also examine the relationship between the modes in images and the modes in the pedagogical activities for the books. The studies by Baldry and Thibault (2006) for multimodal transcriptions and Norris (2004) for communicative modes investigation provide the methodological support for the analysis. This investigation has several objectives: to identify types of framing and the position of participants within the frames; to set apart the modes; to determine modal configuration; and to place them hierarchically in terms of modal density. The investigation also analyzes the pedagogical activities in the unit and the related moving images. The teaching activities are analyzed considering the relation of the dominant modes with each other and with the corresponding image in each activity. The results of the present study highlight the multimodal character of the moving images, especially the multiplicity of meanings made available through framing, which entails the variety of modes used in social interactions and the different negotiations of meaning between participants. The research shows that, in these materials for English teaching, multimodal literacy is restricted mainly to writing and speaking. The other modes that are present in the moving images are not foregrounded in the teaching activities analyzed. The results point to the need for a pedagogy designed for English teaching that will include the diversity of modes and meanings in teaching materials.

[en] Air pollution is a worldwide concern that relates to multiple pollutants and its complex relationships with many factors such as local meteorology and land use. Numerous studies state that exposure to air pollution increases the risk of mortality, respiratory symptoms, lung inflammation, and oxidative stress. However, some studies examining public and environmental health adverse effects associated with air pollution consider only criteria pollutant levels (e.g., particulate matter, PM). This work builds mostly on the non-criteria pollutants using the following approaches: 1) long-term monitoring; 2) toxicological and bioaccumulation essays; 3) application of state-of-the-art statistical models; and 4) a closer look at the increased exposure to which rural residents have been exposed.

[pt] COMPORTAMENTO NÃO LINEAR, BIFURCAÇÕES E INSTABILIDADE DE UMA TRELIÇA HIPERELÁSTICA / [en] NONLINEAR BEHAVIOUR, BIFURCATIONS AND INSTABILITY OF A HYPERELASTIC TRUSSFILIPE MEIRELLES FONSECA 17 October 2019 (has links)
[en] Recent decades have seen a renewed interest in the field of structural stability due to new applications involving smart and deployable structures, micro- and nanocomponents and mechanical metamaterials, among others. In many of these structures multistable behaviour is desirable, which can be accomplished by traditional and new materials capable of undergoing large elastic deformations. In this paper the nonlinear behaviour, stability and vibrations of a hyperelastic neo-Hookean truss exhibiting multistable behaviour is investigated. In such case, the large deformation theory is essential to model the truss members. Most papers in the literature dealing with this problem is however restricted to linear material behaviour. In the present work a detailed parametric analysis of shallow and steep trusses under horizontal or vertical loads, considering elasticity in the fully non-linear range is employed to derive the nonlinear equilibrium and motion equations. Then, all equilibrium paths are obtained and their stability is investigated using the minimum energy principle, natural frequencies and the basins of attraction concept. Load and geometric imperfections are considered. The results show that the simultaneous presence of geometric and materials nonlinearities lead to new equilibrium paths which are not expected for linear elastic materials, resulting in several coexisting stable and unstable solutions and a complex potential energy landscape, clarifying the influence of the constitutive hyperelastic model on the results. The present results may help the development of new engineering applications where multistability is wanted.

[en] PILOT PROJECT: CONCENTRATION PROFILE OF REGULATED AND UNREGULATED POLLUTANTS EMITTED FROM THE COMBUSTION OF BIOFUEL ORIGINATING OF A DIESEL CYCLE ENGINE / [pt] PROJETO PILOTO: PERFIL DA CONCENTRAÇÃO DE POLUENTES REGULAMENTADOS E NÃO REGULAMENTADOS EMITIDOS A PARTIR DA COMBUSTÃO DE BIOCOMBUSTÍVEIS ORIGINÁRIOS DE UM MOTOR DE CICLO DIESELBEATRIZ SILVA AMARAL 14 July 2020 (has links)
armazenamento, especialmente no caso do biodiesel.
No
entanto, comparando alguns poluentes individualmente, as emissões de benzeno e
etilbenzeno foram maiores para B100 e B100 adt. O B5 apresentou o maior perfil
A menor emissão
de poluentes foi durante a queima do etanol aditivado. / [en]
The emissions of fossil fuels derived from oil have a significant impact on the
environment, climate change, air pollution, and others. Therefore, there is great
interest in alternative energy sources, especially those that can reduce emissions of
air pollutants. The aim of this study was the evaluation of concentration profiles of
criteria pollutants, particulate matter (PM) and CO2 and unregulated pollutants (i.e.,
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH),
aliphatic hydrocarbons, aldehyde and metals) originated from burning of different
fuels: The evaluated fuels were the binary mixture of fossil diesel with 5 percent biodiesel
(B5), biodiesel soybean (B100), additivated biodiesel soybean (B100 adt) and
additivated ethanol using a stationary diesel engine cycle, operating at the speed of
1800 rpm and 0 percent load. For a larger reliability of results, the method validation for
determination the monoaromatic and aldehydes by gas chromatography flame
ionization detection (GC-FID) and high-performance liquid chromatography
(HPLC), respectively. PM mass was determinate by gravimetry, PAH associated to
the PM were determined by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry
(GC-MS), aliphatic hydrocarbons were determined by GC-FID, and metals were
determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The
concentration profiles were evaluated considering: 1) burning time (15, 30, and 60
minutes) and; 2) storage time (7, 14, and 21 days) at 40 Celsius Degrees to evaluate the oxidative
processes that occur during storage, especially for biodiesel. When it is still cold
(i.e., 15 minutes), the operation of the engine showed negative effect on particulate
matter (PM), benzene, and ethylbenzene emissions for B100 compared to B5. In
this study, the concentration profiles of the monoaromatic, aliphatic hydrocarbons,
and PAH showed similar results to those reported in the literature, where B5 fuel
emits more pollutants than pure biodiesel. However, comparing some pollutants
individually, the benzene and ethylbenzene emissions were higher for B100 and
B100 adt. For long engine operation periods, B5 showed the highest concentration
profile for the PAH sum in the gaseous in comparison to PAH sum in the particulate
phase. The storage time reduced the PM emissions in 40 percent (B100), 20 percent (B100
adt), and 3 percent (B5). Regarding the concentration of aromatics, the reduction was
circa 60 percent for B100 and B100 adt. The lowest emission of pollutants was observed
for additived ethanol burning.

[en] REFLECTIONS ABOUT ELABORATION OF PEDAGOGICAL MATERIAL FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION: AN EXPERIENCE CEAD-UNIRIO / [pt] REFLEXÕES SOBRE ELABORAÇÃO DE MATERIAL DIDÁTICO PARA EDUCAÇÃO A DISTÂNCIA: UMA EXPERIEÊNCIA CEAD-UNIRIOMONICA LOPES NOGUEIRA 09 January 2013 (has links)
[en] This research aimed at raising questions about the creation of pedagogical materials for distance education (DE) at the Coordination of Distance Education at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CEAD-UNIRIO). It is an attempt to understand and reflect upon my own practice in the elaboration of these materials at the institution so that I coul better guide professors that are invited to work with DE (content designers, Discipline Coordinators and Tutor-Professors), as they will be able to elaborate contents and even their own materials. In order to do it, this dissertation approaches the planning of pedagogical materials both as objects and as content, their construction, technical questions related to their production and questions concerning their use. As to be able to reflect upon these questions, the research also approaches other factors that overlap and somehow modify the elaboration of their own pedagogical materials. Thus, it contemplates the DE context as it originates the necessity for the materials. It also raises questions taht concern the actors involved in the process - both professors and learns - as the objects are made by people and for people. In addition, it looks at the virtual environment used by the instituition, as the materials are planned and produced to be used in a specific enviromenment, under some aspects of use, Finally, the dissertation also approaches the difference between pedagogical materials and learning tools, highlightting the importance of the professor, of the pedagogical material and of the need for interaction in the teaching-learning process of DE learners.

[en] EFFECTS AND APPLICATIONS OF NON-HOMOGENEOUS STRAINS IN BRAGG GRATINGS / [pt] EFEITOS E APLICAÇÕES DE DEFORMAÇÕES NÃO HOMOGÊNEAS EM REDES DE BRAGGADRIANO FERNANDES PINHO 21 September 2005 (has links)
Estes componentes
As RBF têm encontrado
aplicações importantes no
raro, a alternativa é utilizar simultaneamente duas RBF
RBF. A primeira delas explora a birrefringência óptica
induzida na RBF por
carregamentos transversais à fibra óptica. A segunda
As
[en] Fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) are modulations in the
effective refractive index of
optical fibers, introduced in a small length along the
fiber core. Such components operate
as narrow band reflective filters, that is, when
illuminated by a broad-band light source,
they reflect a narrow spectral band centered at a specific
wavelength, the Bragg
wavelength. This wavelength is proportional to the spatial
period of the refractive index
modulation. Fiber Bragg gratings have find an increasing
number of applications as
sensors for different quantities, and today are being
employed as part of permanent, real
time monitoring systems in various industrial segments.
The oil and gas sector, together
with civil infrastructure and aeronautics and aerospace,
account for almost 70% of this
applications. In a number of situations, FBG sensing is
based on indirect measurements
of the quantity being monitored, and a transduction
mechanism is employed to transform
changes in the measured quantity in strain sensed by the
optical fiber. Since the FBG is
sensitive to strain and temperature, proper temperature
compensation is always
necessary. Usually, a second grating is employed to
simultaneously measure temperature
and strain, performing the required compensation.
This thesis presents a study on effects due to non-
homogeneous strains in the
Bragg grating and discusses application of two different
techniques, based on these
effects, to allow temperature compensated strain
measurement using a single FBG. The
first technique explores strain induced optical
birefringence when the fiber is loaded
transversely. The second technique is based on changes in
the spectral shape of the light
signal reflected by the grating when subjected to non
homogeneous axial strain fields.
Prototypes of pressure and temperature transducers based
on these techniques have been
developed. These prototypes have been designed by
employing CAD techniques and
modeled using the finite element method in conjunction
with the theory of coupled
modes for fiber Bragg gratings. Comparisons between
results provided by theoretical models and experimental
realizations of the prototypes are very close,
demonstrating that
the developed approach can be applied to design
transducers based on the discussed
techniques. Results obtained with the proposed pressure
and temperature sensors are also
encouraging indicating that the two techniques are
suitable for industrial applications.
