[pt] O presente trabalho procurou investigar, à luz da concepção foucaultiana da constituição da subjetividade, os adeptos das práticas de marcação corporal extrema, tais como: tatuagem, piercing, escarificação, branding, cutting, suspensão, entre outras, concernentes ao movimento da Body Modification. Cada época produz um tipo de corpo que corresponde aos ideais de beleza e aos valores dominantes em uma sociedade. Reconhecendo que os adeptos da Body Modification constroem corpos que possuem um estilo divergente dos padrões presentes na sociedade ocidental, procurou-se refletir não somente sobre os efeitos destas práticas para estes indivíduos, mas também a respeito das conseqüências da sua presença em nossa sociedade. Para tanto, procedeu-se inicialmente a uma exposição da visão de Foucault sobre o poder e a maneira como as relações de poder investem os corpos produzindo formas de subjetivação. Foi realizado, também, um histórico das práticas de marcação corporal ao longo da humanidade para apontar o contexto em que surge o movimento da Body Modification e suas especificidades. Além disto, foram apresentadas as características principais do pensamento dos indivíduos que se submetem a estas práticas. Tendo por base a premissa, apresentada por Foucault, de que a subjetividade possui uma raiz corporal, este movimento é valorizado pela autora como uma nova forma de subjetivação contemporânea que busca resistir aos mecanismos coercitivos do poder. / [en] The present work investigates, based on the foucautian notion of the constitution of the subjectivity, the practitioners of extreme body marking such as tattooing, piercing, scarification, branding, cutting, suspension, among others. All these practices concern the greater movement of Body Modification. Each society produces different standards for what the ideal body should be according to the patterns of beauty and the dominant values of each particular time. Considering that the body constructed by the practitioners of Body Modification is divergent to western culture standards, this study tries to show how this perspective influences not only those who use it but also how its presence in our society has important consequences. To do so the study began with an exposition of Foucault´s notion of power and how power relations invest the bodies producing different forms of subjectivity. A historic approach on body marking also made it possible to understand in which context the Body Modification Movement and its specificities appeared. The narrative of the individuals who submit to these practices was also taken in consideration, and the main aspects of how they think their experience is presented in this work. Agreeing with Foucault´s premise that subjectivity has its roots on the body, the Body Movement is valued by the author as a new form of subjectivity which can offer an alternative for resistance in face of the coercive mechanisms of power of our contemporaneity.

[pt] Homens que redesenham Homens é uma pesquisa que pretende contribuir com uma reflexão sobre a expansividade do campo do Design por meio da análise da possibilidade de o redesign de corpos humanos aí ser inserido. O objetivo dessa dissertação é primordialmente o de mostrar a passibilidade de construção e porque não, de desconstrução, a que as coisas, assim como os corpos, estão submetidos desde o momento em que coabitam sob a égide da cultura, da sociedade e da política. No momento pós-moderno em que vivemos, caso se possa afirmar sua existência, é possível que caiba ao Designer, num sentido ampliado do termo, o posto de maestro destas transformações. Esta dissertação visa também mostrar, por meio de alguns eventos e teorias, de que maneira artistas, cientistas e pensadores, compreendem e discutem questões sobre as interferências praticadas nos corpos, sua possível obsolescência, a busca incessante pela beleza, além das querelas entre o natural e o artificial dos corpos. Enfim, reflete-se mesmo sobre a possibilidade de construção de uma teoria desta atividade, o Design, ancoradouro daquele profissional que tanto pode projetar objetos quanto repensar a própria estrutura. Espera-se que o faça não em busca de uma pureza ilusória e inexistente, mas seguindo em frente com os desígnios que nos foram atribuídos, continuando homens, dentro de nossa humana condição. / [en] Men redesigning Men is a research that intends to contribute with a reflexion on the expansion of the field of Design by the means of an analysis of the possibility of the insertion of the human body redesign within its boundaries. The main objective of this dissertation is to show the passibility of construction and, why not, deconstruction to which things, as well as the body itself, are subjected once existing under the aegis of culture, society and politics. In the post-modern moment that we live at, if it does exist, it is possible that the Designer, in an expanded sense, may be considered the maestro of these transformations. This dissertation also relies on a few events and theories to present how artists, scientists and philosophers comprehend and discuss these questions about the interferences practiced on the body, its possible obsolescence, the never ending quest for beauty and the quarrels between naturality and artificiality regarding the body. Thus, it concerns the possibility of construction of a theory of this activity, the Design, haven of a professional which can project objects as well as rethink his own structure. It is expected that this is not done for the sake of an ilusory and inexisting purity, but carrying on with his own designations, as men within our human condition.

[pt] As modificações corporais abordadas nesta pesquisa incluem a aplicação de tatuagens, body piercing, implantes subdérmicos e quaisquer outros tipos de intervenções que envolvam procedimentos dolorosos que geram uma transformação corporal extrema, resultando no cobrimento de uma parte considerável ou até mesmo quase total da superfície corporal, que é realizada por razões não-médicas e que fogem dos padrões estéticos comumente vistos na sociedade. Na presente pesquisa objetivou-se refletir sobre a relação existente entre corpo e psiquismo, explorando as noções de sensorialidade, memórias corporais, vivências primárias do bebê e o papel do Outro na constituição psíquica e corporal do sujeito para uma melhor compreensão acerca do modo como o corpo é concebido e hiperinvestido na atualidade, sendo as práticas de modificações corporais um exemplo disso. As investigações teóricas apontam que a constituição psíquica e a percepção corporal desenvolvem-se paralelamente uma à outra e influenciam-se mutuamente, sendo o ambiente um fator de grande importância para o desenvolvimento subjetivo, corporal e psíquico da criança, o que acaba coincidindo com o modo como o corpo é concebido desde tempos longínquos até os dias atuais, dentro de uma perspectiva individual e também social, servindo como palco de representações psíquicas que se traduzem na maneira como o sujeito se expressa através de seu corpo, sendo as modificações corporais exemplos importantes desse fenômeno, uma vez que elas permitem que a plasticidade corporal seja explorada a ponto de gerar reflexões em torno de até onde se estendem os limites do corpo e da versatilidade comunicativa da qual a dimensão corporal se utiliza para se expressar simbolicamente. / [en] The body modifications presented in this survey include tattooing, body piercing, sub-dermal implanting and any other kinds of physical interventions, involving painful procedures that might generate an extreme transformation, coming out as the coverage of a large or even the total body surface. Carried out for non-medical purposes, these modifications are outside the social aesthetic standards. The following research seeks a reflection on the relationship between body and psyche, exploring notions of sensoriality, body memories, early newborn experiences and the Other s part to play in the psychic and physical constitution of the subject for a better comprehension on how the body have been perceived and hyper-invested lately, being the body modifications an example of that. The theoretical investigations have pointed that the psychic constitution and the corporeal perception are developed at the same time, influencing one another, being the environment a considerable factor for the child s subjective, physical, and psychic development. Which ends up overlapping with how the body is perceived since remote times until the present days, within both individual and social perspectives. The body modifications are a important representation of this phenomenon, once they allow the corporeal malleability to be explored, to the stage of rising reflections about how far can go the limits of the body and the communicative versatility, which is used by the corporeal dimension to symbolically express itself.

[pt] O presente trabalho abordará as modificações corporais especificamente no campo psicanalítico. Partirá da premissa de que a questão da noção do corpo na psicanálise é fundamental e delicada, ressaltará a importância da via sensorial para a constituição do psiquismo. A investigação terá como base teórica o conceito freudiano de eu, a proposta de Piera Aulagnier a respeito da constituição do corpo próprio e da origem do psiquismo, as noções de Eu-pele e Eu-pensante de Didier Anzieu, alguns conceitos winnicottianos sobre a importância do vínculo materno na díade mãe-bebê para promoção de saúde mental, bem como algumas noções sobre saúde e criatividade. O trabalho visa refletir sobre as possíveis relações existentes entre as modificações corporais e a constituição da subjetividade. / [en] The present work will address the body modifications specifically in the psychoanalytic field. It assumes the question of the notion of the body in psychoanalysis as a fundamental and delicate one, will underscore the importance of the sensorial pathway for the constitution of the psyche. The investigation will have as its theoretical basis the Freudian concept of ego, Piera Aulagnier s proposal regarding the constitution of one s own body and the psyche s origin, the notions of self-skin and self-thinking of Didier Anzieu, some Winnicottian concepts about the importance of maternal bond in the mother-infant dyad towards the promotion of mental health, as well as some notions of health and creativity. The work intends to consider the possible relations between body modifications and the constitution of subjectivity.
