「掉」在V-掉結構中的語法與語意研究 / The Syntax and Semantics of Post-verbal Diao

本論文旨在探討「掉」出現在動詞後面時的語意內涵與語法地位。我們認為當「掉」身為結果補語時,它的意思為「被往下移除」;身為動相標誌時,意思為「被移除」;身為動貌標誌時,則標示起始意。「掉」經常與及物和非作格動詞形成複合動詞:與靜態動詞、瞬間動詞及達成動詞構成達成複合動詞,與動作動詞及完成動詞則構成完成複合動詞。雖然V-掉的論元結構經常是其前置動詞與「掉」之論元結構的結合體,但在某些情況下「掉」可能會壓制前置動詞的論元、幫V-掉複合動詞增加新論元或先壓制前置動詞的論元再幫V-掉複合動詞增加新論元。最後,我們採用虛化的理論來解釋為何「掉」具有多重語意及多重語法地位。由於「掉」符合Hopper (1991)所提出的虛化原則,因此我們相信「掉」的確正處在虛化的過程中。 / There are two main questions about post-verbal diao we dealt with in the present study: one is its meanings, and the other is its syntactic status. We argue that when diao acts as a resultative complement, it means ‘to be removed in a downward direction’, when it acts as a phase marker, it means ‘to be removed’, and when it acts as an aspect marker, it bears a grammatical meaning indicating inchoative. Post-verbal diao usually co-occurs with transitive and unaccusative verbs to form compounds. When diao goes with State, Semelfactive and Achievement verbs, the V-diao compounds will be Achievements, when diao goes with Activity and Accomplishment verbs, the V-diao compounds will be Accomplishments. In most cases, the argument structure of a V-diao compound is a composition of the argument structure of the preceding verb and that of diao. However, diao will suppress the Goal argument when co-occurring with three-place transactional verbs; it will create an argument for the V-diao compound when the argument of the preceding verb and that of diao are incompatible; it will suppress an argument of the preceding verb and create a new one for the V-diao compound when occurring with verbs which have an incremental theme. Grammaticalization is taken to account for the polysemy and the multiple syntactic status of post-verbal diao. Because except specialization, diao follows all of the principles (i.e. Layering, Divergence, Persistence, and De-categorialization) proposed by Hopper (1991), we suggest it is in the process of grammaticalization.

本論文著眼於「共時」與「歷時」兩個視角,並從方言、跨語言現象及歷史語料討論「喫」「吃」「乞」的相關議題,包括歷史音韻、方言語法、歷史語法。 根據我們的研究結果顯示,「喫」「吃」兩字來自於「齧」「齕」的部件取代,而「喫」「吃」混用的機制是聲符「乞」「契」的音同所致,最終「喫」「吃」形成異形同義字。另外,也針對表示飲食義的「喫」進行歷史音韻的推測,按照音變的規則「見」系「溪」母的「喫」在現代漢語應讀為顎化音,但在詞彙擴散的效應下部份的聲母,流入中古的「照」系,其他的例子像是「廈」「閘」也循此變化模式。 文獻指出元明以後「喫」「吃」「乞」三者都有當作被動標記的用例,並且相互的混用。透過閩方言的音韻資料顯示,「喫」「吃」「乞」表示被動的語義根源並不相同,三者的混用主要是在歷史音變中形成一組同音字。 閩方言中有一個單用的入聲「乞」兼表給予、使役、索取、被動。而在閩南地區被動用法則為「乞與」或以授予動詞「與」兼用。因此,我們建立了一個假設:閩方言內部的被動標記「乞」可能有不同的語義根源,一個是和授予動詞「與」複合的「乞與」朝向授予>使役>被動發展;一個是「乞」由索求到被動。為了論證這個觀點,本文從英語的“get”作為觀察,並討論了「與格轉換」、「詞義分解」、原型施事受事理論。 從方言語料顯示「乞」可以出現在動詞及與格標記的位置,形成S+乞+DO+乞+IO;以及雙賓結構「乞+IO+DO」。透過與格轉換理論,前者可以推導出後者,另外歷史上也見到「乞與+IO+DO」的雙賓句式,這兩種句式的存在就是為了辨義作用,如同漢語的「借」和「借給」。閩方言裡不使用「乞與+IO+DO」的雙賓句式,因此我們推測當「乞與」形成之初是一組反義並列,隨著「與」的共現和語法化「乞與」複合成使役動詞並列,並朝向被動標記發展。對照「乞與」的發展推測,單用的「乞」其來源就值得探究。 閩方言單用的被動標記「乞」基本上都必須帶有施事者,形成長被動「NP1+乞+NP2+V」,但有少數的用例顯示,仍可以接受不帶施事的短被動「NP1+乞+V」。動詞「乞」的語義本身就帶有下對上的位階關係,因此操控權並非只限於 「乞」的主語。據此,論文的最後一章推測短被動「乞」的形成有兩個重要條件:動詞作格化(被動化)、動作事件的發生是在非自願性(不幸說)。歷史上「乞+N」最早出現,但是因為名詞動詞的模糊性產生「乞+N」>「乞+V」如「乞降」。 而長被動「乞」的產生,透過其他被動式的觀察,其發展應和「NP1+被+V+於+NP2」這個結構有關,透過句法操作、句式趨向最終產生「NP1+乞+NP2+V」。 兩相對照,短被動是在「乞+V」中「乞」重新分析為一個次要動詞(副動詞);而長被動是在句法操作生成。 關鍵字: 詞彙擴散 被動標記 與格轉換 作格化(被動化) / Abstract This paper is aimed at two perspectives, “synchronic time” and “diachronic time,” and explores issues relating to “喫” “吃,” and “乞” from dialect, cross-linguistic phenol, and historical corpus discussions, including historical phonology, dialectic grammar, and historical grammar. The results show that the two words “喫” and “吃” are replaced by the “齧” and “齕” parts, while the mixed mechanism of “喫” and “吃” is derived from the homophone of “乞 (beg)” and “契”(bond), thus leading to the synonyms “喫” and “吃” Additionally, targeting the word “喫” that means diet, historic-phonology-related speculations were made. According to the sound shift rules, the word “喫” with “見” system and “溪” constituent should be pronounced as a palatalized sound (tilde) in the modern Chinese language. However, under the influence of lexical diffusion, some consonants fall under the “照” system. Other examples such as “廈” and “閘” also follow this pattern. According to literatures, there have been cases of “喫” “吃” and “乞” used as passive markers, which have been alternatively used. According to the phonological information of the Min dialect, it shows that the semantic roots of “喫” “吃” and “乞” are not the same and that the alternative use is mainly to form a set of homophones from the historical sound shifts. In the Min dialect, there is a single checked tone “乞” which means “give, causative, beg, supplicate, and passive.” In the Minnan region, the passive usage is “乞與” or the dative verb to be given “與.” Hence, the hypothesis is the passive marker “beg” in the Min dialect may have different semantic roots: one is the dative verb that compounds with “與” and “乞與” which are headed toward the direction of give>causative>passive; the other is the word “乞” that shifts from demand to passive. In order to demonstrate this point, the English word “get” was observed in this paper. The dative shift, lexical decomposition, and Porto agent Porto patient were explored. The dialectic corpus shows that “乞” can appear in the position of the verb and dative marker, thus forming S+乞+DO+乞+IO and the double object construction 乞+IO+DO. Through the dative shift theory, the latter can be deduced from the former. Additionally, the “乞與+IO+DO” double object construction has also been throughout history. The existence of the two sentence patterns plays the role of “to distinguish,” just like “borrowing” and “lending” in the Chinese language. In the Min dialect, the “乞與+IO+DO” double object construction is not used. Therefore, it is speculated that “乞與” was first formed as a set of opposite (meaning) antonym. With the collocation of “與” and the grammaticalization of “乞與” compounded to form and tie with the causative verb and head toward passive marker development. In conjunction with the development of “乞與” it is speculated that the source of the sole use of “乞” is worth exploring. Basically, the passive marker “乞” used in the Min dialect must have a causal agent, forming long passive construction “NP1+乞+NP2+V.” However, few cases show that short passive construction “NP1+乞+V” without a causative agent is still acceptable. The verb “乞” itself possesses the semantic bottom-to-top relationship. Thus, the control is not restricted to the “乞” subject. Accordingly, the last chapter in this paper covers two speculated important conditions that contribute to the formation of “乞”: ergativization/passivization and occurrences of actions that are involuntary (sad to say). In history, “乞+N” first appeared, but due to the ambiguity of the nouns and verbs, “乞+N” > “乞+V” such as “beg to surrender or got tamed” resulted. On the other hand, the generation of the long passive “乞,” as observed through other passives, is associated with the “NP1+被+V+於+NP2” structure. Through syntactic operations and sentential convergence, “NP1+乞+NP2+V” eventually resulted. In contrast of the two, short passive is the reanalysis of “乞” in “乞+V” to derive at a secondary verb (coverb), while long passive is generated through syntactic operation. 透過圖片標籤觀察情緒字詞與事物概念之關聯 / An analysis on association between emotion words and concept words based on image tags

本研究試圖從心理學出發,探究描述情緒狀態的分類方法為何, 為了進行情緒與語意的連結,我們試圖將影像當作情緒狀態的刺激 來源,針對Flickr網路社群所共建共享的內容進行抽樣與觀察,使 用心理學研究中基礎的情緒字詞與詞性變化,提取12,000張帶有字 詞標籤的照片,進行標籤字詞與情緒分類字詞共現的計算、關聯規則 計算。同時,透過語意差異量表,提出了新的偏向與強度的座標分類 方法。 透過頻率門檻的過濾、詞性加註與詞幹合併字詞的方法,從 65983個不重複的文字標籤中,最後得到272個帶有情緒偏向的事物 概念字詞,以及正負偏向的情緒關聯規則。為了透過影像驗證這些字 詞是否與影像內容帶給人們的情緒狀態有關聯,我們透過三種查詢 管道:Flickr單詞查詢、google image單詞查詢、以及我們透過照片 標籤綜合指標:情緒字詞比例、社群過濾參數來選定最後要比較的 42張照片。透過語意差異量表,測量三組照片在136位使用者的答案 中,是否能吻合先前提出的強度-偏向模型。 實驗結果發現,我們的方法和google image回傳的結果類似, 使用者問卷調查結果支持我們的方法對於正負偏向的判定,且比 google有更佳的強弱分離程度。 / This study attempts to proceed from psychology to explore the emotional state of the classification method described why, in order to be emotional and semantic links, images as we try to stimulate the emotional state of the source, the Internet community for sharing Flickr content sampling and observation, using basic psychological research in terms of mood changes with the parts of speech, with word labels extracted 12,000 photos, label and classification of words and word co-occurrence of emotional computing, computing association rules. At the same time, through the semantic differential scale, tend to put forward a new classification of the coordinates and intensity. Through the frequency threshold filter, filling part of speech combined with the terms of the method stems from the 65,983 non-duplicate text labels, the last 272 to get things with the concept of emotional bias term, and positive and negative emotions tend to association rules. In order to verify these words through images is to bring people's emotional state associated with our pipeline through the three sources: Flickr , google image , and photos through our index labels: the proportion of emotional words, the community filtering parameters to select the final 42 photos to compare. Through the semantic differential scale, measuring three photos in 136 users of answers, whether the agreement made earlier strength - bias model. Experimental results showed that our methods and google image similar to the results returned, the user survey results support our approach to determine the positive and negative bias, and the strength of better than google degree of separation.

本篇論文主要是採用詞彙功能語法以及篇章功能語法來檢視處所詞倒置的結構在中英文裡的表現,分別從四個層次來檢視,包括了語意結構、詞組結構、句法功能結構、以及信息結構。首先,能進行處所詞倒置的動詞必須要是帶有一個客體及一個方位詞的論元結構,或是帶有一個由主事者和客體所組成的複合論元以及一個方位詞的論元結構。其次,在詞組結構中,英文的前置處所詞是屬於介系詞,而中文裡的前置處所詞是屬於名詞。再者,前置的處所詞在中文裡是位於主詞的位置,但在英文裡是句法功能結構上的主詞。最後,在句子的信息結構上,考量到信息編排的方式,後置的名詞傾向是無定的名詞而非代名詞,而且傾向是比前置的處所詞還要長的詞組。就篇章信息而言,處所詞倒置必須考慮到對前的連結及對後的連結。另外在文體修飾上為了對仗的效果也會促使處所詞倒置的產生。 透過對比分析,本篇論文有系統地比較英文和中文在處所詞結構的表現,主要目的在於為學習英文的中文講者提供教學上的啟發。而將理論語法運用在教學語法上,也顯示出這兩者語法之間的關連性以及合作性。一方面理論語法可以提供教學語法一個強而有力的理論後盾;另一方面,教學語法也提供了理論語法研究的動機。總的來說,將理論語法運用在教學方面,不僅對語言教學有助益,對語言學研究的領域上也有相當的幫助。 / This paper examines locative inversion construction by adopting Lexical Functional Grammar and discourse grammar. The examination concerns both English and Mandarin, from four structure levels, a-structure, c-structure, f-structure, and information structure. First, a locative inversion verb takes an a-structure of <theme locative> or <agent-theme locative>. Second, in c-structure, the preposed locative belongs to PP in English but to NP in Mandarin. Third, whereas the preposed locative phrase is in the subject position in Mandarin, the one in English is only a functional subject in f-structure. Finally, in information structure, given information packaging, the postposed theme is inclined to be an indefinite nominal instead of a pronoun and to be a longer constituent than the preposed locative phrase; in contextual information, a linking device, used either anaphorically or cataphorically, is necessary for locative inversion, and stylistic parallelism further facilitates the occurrence of locative inversion. With the systematic comparison of English and Mandarin, this paper aims to provide pedagogical suggestions in regard to English learning for Mandarin speakers, by virtue of the use of Contrastive Analysis. The application of theoretical grammar to the language teaching field indicates the correlation and cooperation between theoretical grammar and pedagogical grammar. On the one hand, the theoretical grammar provides a firm and reliable theoretical support for language teaching; on the other hand, the pedagogical grammar is the motivation to the research of theoretical grammar. All in all, the application of theoretical grammar to language teaching contributes not only to the language teaching filed but also to the linguistic research.

詞彙歧義解困的次要語義偏向效應再視:中文多義詞的眼動研究證據 / Revisiting the subordinate bias effect of lexical ambiguity resolution: evidence from eye movements in reading Chinese

過去二十多年來,心理語言學研究關注詞彙歧義解困 (lexical ambiguity resolution)歷程發生時,語義脈絡與多義詞的語義頻率之間的交互作用。許多研究發現,當語境支持非均勢同形異義詞 (unbalanced homograph) 的次要語義時,同形異義詞的凝視時間長於與其有相同字形頻率的單義詞 (unambiguous control),此為次要語義偏向效應 (subordinate bias effect)。根據再排序觸接模型 (reordered-access model),次要語義偏向效應來自於主要語義與次要語義的競爭;相對地,選擇觸接模型 (selective access model)則認為只有與語境相關的語義被激發,因此,次要語義偏向效應是因為提取到一個使用頻率較低的語義。本論文進行兩個眼動實驗。實驗一檢視中文多義詞的次要語義偏向效應以區辨兩種詞彙歧義解困模型分別提出的解釋。本實驗的材料使用了低頻同形異義詞、低頻單義詞、以及高頻單義詞。結果顯示,當使用的單義詞與多義詞字形頻率相同時,在目標詞及後目標詞上(目標詞後一個詞)皆發生了次要語義偏向效應。實驗二利用口語理解─視覺典範中透過受試者理解語音訊息時同步記錄眼動的作業方式來探究次要語義偏向效應是否來自於主要語義的激發。當口語句子中的目標詞被唸出後,會計算出隨著時間增加眼睛落在四個雙字詞的凝視比例。結果發現次要語義因為語境的選擇在聽到目標詞後大約500毫秒時就可被激發,主要語義則在一聽完多義詞後被激發。因此,多義詞的兩個語義在聽到目標詞後大約900至1300毫秒時(相當於在後目標詞時)發生競爭。整體而言,本研究顯示即使語境支持多義詞的次要語義,主要語義依然會被激發。因此,次要語義偏向效應是由兩個語義競爭後所造成的結果,符合再排序觸接模型的解釋。 / Research in psycholinguistics throughout the last two decades has focused on the interaction between linguistic context and meaning dominance during lexical ambiguity resolution. Many studies demonstrated the subordinate bias effect when the preceding context biased for the subordinate meaning (i.e. infrequent meaning) of an unbalanced homograph. According to the reordered access model, the SBE is due to competition between the dominant and subordinate meanings. On the contrary, the selective access model assumes only the context-relevant meaning is activated and the SBE is a result of access to a low frequent meaning. Two eye tracking experiments of sentence reading and sentence listening were conducted. Experiment 1 examined the SBE of Chinese homographs to differentiate the two accounts. We utilized low frequency homographs along with their matched low and high-frequency unambiguous words. The results showed the SBE emerging in fixation durations of the target region and post-target region (i.e. next two words of the target), when unambiguous controls were matched to the word-form frequency of ambiguous words. Experiment 2 used visual world paradigm to explore temporal dynamics of dominant meaning activation responsible for the SBE in an instructional eyetracking-during-listening task. Fixation probabilities on four disyllabic printed words were analyzed during a time period after a target word was uttered in a spoken sentence. The results supported the reordered access model. The subordinate meaning was activated by contextual information at about 500 ms after the onset of acoustic homograph at the time when context penetrated to make its favored meaning available. Soon after the offset of homograph, the dominant meaning became active. Both meanings associated with the homograph were activated during the time windows of 901 ms to 1300 ms, which approximately corresponding to the acoustic onset of post target. In sum, our studies demonstrate that the dominant meaning is activated even when the contextual information biases to the subordinate meaning of a homograph. The subordinate bias effect is the result of competition from two meanings, conforming to the reordered access model.
