Umělecké objednávky Michaela Osvalda Thuna jako nedílná součást reprezentace českého aristokrata ve 2. polovině 17. století / Michael Osvald Thun's Art Commissions - Inseparable Part of a Baroque Aristocrat's Image in the Second Half of the 17 th Century

Pátek, Jakub January 2013 (has links)
Résumé Michael Osvald Thun's art commissions - inseparable part of a baroque aristocrat's image in the second half of the 17th century The dissertation deals with the art commissions of wealthy count Michael Osvald Thun who represents one of key builders in Bohemia in the second half of the 17th century. Beside buildings, an emphasis is also placed on other categories of art commissions, for example collections of sculptures and paintings. In the introduction, I define a terminology and summarize an existing research in the field of aristocrat art commissions. The next part analyses used sources, primary and secondary, dealing with history of the house of Thun, its financial standing, and person of Michael Osvald Thun. The fourth part is dedicated directly to Michael Osvald Thun, where I describe his family situation, upbringing, education process and adulthood. He was raised with respect to family values, public duty and administration of the family property that was a prerequisite for art commissions. The fifth part compares Thun's art commissions with art commissions of his siblings. Some of them hold significant bishop and archbishop posts. This helps up uncover ties and positional interactions between different art commissioners. The sixth part is focused on Michael Osvald Thun's art commissions where...

Legaré-Hamel, Alexis 04 1900 (has links)
This master’s thesis analyses the place that the dead occupied in the rivalries that took place between Catholics and Protestants in France under the Edict of Nantes. This research will thus investigate a subject which has only been superficially studied by the historians of death: the treatment of Protestant dead and cemeteries by the Catholics during the period of application of the Edict of Nantes. In the first chapter, the historiographic assessment of the history of death gives a better understanding of the intellectual and emotional context of Benoist’s references to the dead and to cemeteries. At first glance, they seem to be lost in the overabundance of details that Benoist puts forward to condemn the persecutions that the French Protestants had to suffer between the Wars of Religion and the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. But in chapter two, we discover that these testimonies are part of a larger plan that allows the pastor to build his argument on solid evidence. In order to fully grasp the construction of Benoist’s story and the methods he uses to communicate his thoughts, we decided to divide his work in ten periods, separated by events that led to a change in the application of the Edict. We will then be able to understand that, by using a rigorous historic methodology, though marked by rhetorical process that tended toward generalisations, Élie Benoist managed to offer his personal vision of the period, and to defend it through traces of history. Based on this information, we will be able, in chapter three, to study in depth the different aggressions inflicted to Huguenot dead and to show the difference between the aggressions committed by the state, the church and the population. In doing so, we will see that Benoist’s will was not only to promote the value of confessional coexistence, but also, by the litany of the complaints against the Catholic treatment of Huguenot dead, to maybe call his Protestant contemporaries to resistance.

"Smell the horse, dad" : A qualitative case study on using scents as a sensory tool to bridge historical information through embodied storytelling within a museum / "Lukta på hästen, pappa" : En kvalitativ fallstudie om användning av dofter som ett sensoriskt verktyg för att överbrygga historisk information genom embodied storytelling inom ett museum

Andersson, Jessica January 2023 (has links)
The thesis was conducted as the master thesis for a Master's in innovation and design. The aim of this thesis was to investigate in what ways scent can be used as an olfactory stimulation within exhibitions and to access the possible effects that occur from bridging historical contexts with scent within the exhibitions – as a tool for embodied storytelling. The olfactory study focuses on Leksmedjan Smetuna in Rademachersmedjorna, Eskilstuna. The thesis theoretical framework presents theories on sense of smell, museum experiences, storytelling, and embodied storytelling. A space analysis and a qualitative interview with a museum pedagogue at Västermanland´s county museum. An observational smellscape with different scented elements is conducted as well, with visiting children at Leksmedjan Smetuna in Rademachersmedjorna – where children get the chance to experience historical scents from the 17th century, through their sense of smell. This with the aim to visualize the physical-, emotional- and social effects that occur during children´s sensory museum experiences. The scented elements for the observational smellscapes were designed and produced during the thesis design process and are based on theoretical and empirical data collection. The results of the thesis bring forth important perspectives regarding children´s sensory museum experiences that incorporate scented elements.

The Harmonic Interval of the Seventh in the Works of Representative Composers of Italian Madrigals, 1542-1614

Dowden, Ralph D. 12 1900 (has links)
This study is an attempt to shed some light on the treatment of one dissonance—the seventh—in the works of the following composers: Cipriano de Rore (1516-1565); Philippe de Monte (1521-1603); Giaches de Wert (1535-1596); Luca Marenzio (1553-1599); Carlo Gesualdo (ca. 1560-1613); and Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643). The purpose of this thesis is to discover (1) the frequency of occurrence of primary (relatively accented) sevenths and their inversions (^ chords, etc.) in a selection of each composer's madrigals; and (2) the methods of handling sevenths employed by each composer, with particular emphasis on the relationship between these methods and sixteenth century theory.
