The problem of this study is to determine the soundness of the Gilmer-Aikin Law financially and administratively. No attempt will be made to apply the principles of the law to any particular area or school district, but the law will be considered as a whole as it will apply to the schools of Texas in general.

En la filosofía social contemporánea el concepto de reconocimiento está en discusión. Por un lado, algunos filósofos, entre los que destacan Louis Althusser, Michel Foucault y Judith Butler, sostienen que el reconocimiento significa la adhesión subjetiva al poder expresada en la respuesta al llamado de la ley. En esta respuesta la subjetividad se reconoce en la ley, adquiriendo una identidad práctica. Por esto, para estos filósofos el reconocimiento es la forma por la cual el sujeto queda sujetado a la ley. Por otro lado, Axel Honneth sostiene que el reconocimiento es el movimiento dialéctico en el que la subjetividad busca afirmarse en el otro para ampliar el horizonte valorativo de la sociedad. La estructura normativa que puede satisfacer el deseo de afirmación subjetiva es la autorrestricción del egocentrismo por respeto al otro. De este modo es posible estar con consigo mismo en el otro. A esta estructura normativa Honneth la llama Eticidad. En consecuencia, el reconocimiento expresa el sentido normativo de la subjetividad que busca realizarse. Entonces, ¿cómo diferenciar el sentido normativo del reconocimiento de la sujeción ideológica? Para esto, siguiendo a Honneth, sostenemos que la ideología, a diferencia del reconocimiento, es una promesa normativa meramente simbólica debida a la reificación de las relaciones de interdependencia que genera sufrimientos sociales en los sujetos. Nuestra tesis se sostiene en la crítica y recuperación de la agencia que hace Honneth respecto de la tendencia funcionalista prevaleciente en la Teoría Crítica que va de Karl Marx a Jürgen Habermas.

1. This study includes information about 125 departments of vocational agriculture, or 58.6 per cent of the 213 white departments established in the State of Virginia when this study was begun. 2. Data from the teacher trainers and district supervisors of Virginia shows the same trend and results as the data of teachers of vocational agriculture. 3. This study shows 101 or 80.8 per cent of the departments have an advisory council and 24 or 19.2 per cent have none. 4. The average years of experience with using advisory council in present position was 7.4 years, while those not using a council at present was 3.6 years. The teachers using councils serve in present school over twice as long as those not using a council. 5. There were only three teachers with nine or more years of service in present school who did not have an advisory council. 6. The teachers without councils reported an average of 1.7 reasons each for not having an advisory council. 7. Only 12 departments were making use of special councils, and 10 of these also used general councils. 8. The average council in the Southern region is almost the same as the average council in Virginia. / M.S.
