Objetos para ação investiga um conjunto de objetos criados especialmente para existirem associados ao movimento do corpo, distribuídos em quatro séries realizadas entre 2003 e 2004: Infláveis, Andadores, Trama e Ora bolas. A análise desses trabalhos identifica dois procedimentos distintos quanto à sua criação e execução, apropriação e confecção. Constata-se que os procedimentos confecção e apropriação são determinantes não apenas para as questões formais que constituem esses objetos, mas, também, para a escolha do tipo e a qualidade das ações corporais que são associadas a cada uma das quatro séries estudadas. A proposta de relacionar corpo e objeto exige uma delimitação e uma definição do tipo de ação que pode ser empregada nesse encontro de naturezas diversas (imobilidade do objeto com mobilidade do corpo), por esse motivo, desenvolve-se e explora-se a noção de tarefa. Esta pesquisa também analisa a performance e a fotografia como meios possíveis de apresentação ao público dos Objetos para ação.

The topic of the present thesis is Suite Concertante for violin and orchestra composed by Bohuslav Martinů. I have attempted an inguiry into the eventful life of Bohuslav Martinů ( 1 st chaper), into the background and details of origin of the individual versions of the piece ( 2 nd chapter) and into other pieces composed by Martinů for violin ( violin concertos, sonatas, other pieces for violin and piano and lost works )(4 th chapter),.I have also analyzed the structure of Suite Concertante for violin and orchestra and compared the two versions ( 3rd chapter).I have used my own interpretation of the second version during the graduation concert on February 7 th 2015. I am convinced that studying materials regarding Bohuslav Martinů as well as performing of the second version during the graduation concert will be a source of inspiration for my further interpretations of Suite Concertante and other works by Martinů.

The work is examined in detail the symphonies of Bohuslav Martinu. It contains a wide range of musical demonstrations. It also seeks to introduce closer the composer and the atmosphere of the time when symphonies were composed.

This study of Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras No. 9 aims at gaining insight into the decision-making processes of translating a score into a musical performance. Chapter I presents a discussion of selected issues related to interpretative analysis. Chapter II is an overview of the approaches to recording comparison deemed relevant to the present study. Chapter III is a comparative study of the vocal and string versions of Bachianas Brasileiras No. 9, while Chapter IV offers a structural analysis of the work. Chapter V compares four recordings: the composer’s own with the Orchestre National de La Radiodiffusion Française—EMI 7243 5 66964 2 6; Odaline de la Martinez and the BBC Singers, LNT 102; Michael Tilson Thomas and the New World Symphony —RCA 09026-68538-2; and my own CD, Construção, Orquestra de Câmara Theatro São Pedro- Limited Edition (live recording made on December 11, 1995 in Bayreuth, Germany). This comparison utilizes data obtained with the software Tempo. The tabulation of these results is shown in graphs that compare how matters of tempo flexibility affect each performance. This multi-faceted study shows that although painstaking analysis can lead to insightful solutions, the fleeting nature of musical performance requires an open mind and imagination to deal with the often contradictory directives of the score.

Search the library catalog for the location and call number. / Since assuming office in January 2006, Bolivian President Evo Morales has been hailed as a populist by media and academic sources alike. Yet, scholarly theories have indicated that populism is unviable in office. This thesis will utilize a case study of Morales' presidency to test hypotheses of populist routinization. After establishing a working definition of populism, it will compare a baseline sample of Morales' prepresidency discourse to a second sample taken after his transition to power to determine whether the "essence" of populism has indeed been compromised. Ultimately, this thesis argues that theories of routinization are incorrect: although the characteristics of Morales' populism change after assuming the presidency, his appeals to and identification with common sense and ordinary values actually grow stronger in office. / Committee in Charge: Craig Parsons, Chair; Anna P. O comunismo, passível de ser construído pelos trabalhadores conscientemente organizados que buscam a sua emancipação - principalmente desde o século XX, quando as forças produtivas materiais alcançaram elevado estágio de desenvolvimento e os países, não mais isolados, podem desenvolver-se tecnológica e industrialmente sem percorrer as mesmas etapas típicas da longa e demorada formação das sociedades burgo-capitalistas modernas - nunca foi de fato o objetivo a ser alcançado pelos revolucionários cubanos que tomaram o poder no final da década de 1950 e que decretaram o caráter socialista daquela Revolução em 1961. A despeito de ter sido bem-sucedida na tarefa de promover uma melhora considerável na vida do seu povo, a Revolução de Fidel e Raul Castro ficou longe de poder ser inequivocamente o motor propulsor da construção de uma sociedade comunista e da emancipação dos trabalhadores cubanos. / In the present study is intended to demonstrate that, despite the existence of a theory of communist transition elaborated by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, it never was the basis for any self-proclaimed communist revolutionary movement, especially for the Cuban Revolution of 1959, our object of analysis in this work. Communism, which can be built consciously by organized workers that are seeking for their emancipation - especially since the twentieth century, when the material productive forces reached a high stage of development and countries, no longer isolated, may develop themselves technologically and industrially without traveling the same typical stages of the long and slow formation of modern capitalist societies - never was indeed the objective to be achieved by Cuban revolutionaries who seized power in the late 1950s and that decreed the socialist character of that Revolution in 1961. Far even from fulfill the basic dictates regarding the profound democratization of their society thought by Marx in his theory of revolutionary dictatorship of the proletariat (first stage of communist transition), Cuban leaders have invested in the complete nationalization of the country to try to promote the radical changes that would take away the biggest Caribbean island of its structural poverty bequeathed by more than 400 years of colonialism and neocolonialism. In spite of having been successful in the task of promoting a significant improvement in the lives of its people, the Revolution of Fidel and Raul Castro was far from being unequivocally the driving motor of building a communist society and the emancipation of Cuban workers.

A crítica literária portuguesa mais conservadora, entretanto, preferiu condenar a poesia de Botto ao limbo do cânone literário, em virtude do teor explicitamente homoerótico de suas canções. Discussões polêmicas foram travadas em jornais e revistas por estas facções, protagonistas de um dos capítulos mais vigorosos da história da crítica literária lusitana. Mais de cinquenta anos após a morte do poeta, a poesia de Botto continua a ganhar a atenção da crítica pela temática homoerótica, especialmente por parte dos Estudos Culturais e dos Queer Studies. O presente trabalho, sem desconsiderar a contribuição e a importância de tais estudos, debruça-se sobre o corpo poético da poesia de Botto, no sentido de investigar o movimento rítmico e o delineamento das imagens poéticas que configuram a encenação do desejo (homo) erótico. Pela perspectiva da teoria e da crítica literária, especialmente por meio da análise de poemas de Canções, ressaltam-se as qualidades estéticas dessa produção poética, que merece ser revisitada pela crítica contemporânea / Antonio Botto’s work won the admiration and respect of early twentieth century outstanding poets and essayists, such as Fernando Pessoa and José Régio. The more conservative Portuguese literary criticism, however, saw fit to condemn Botto’s poetry into the limbo of literary canon, because the explicit homoerotic content of his Songs. Controversial debates were fought in newspapers and magazines by these factions, protagonists of one of the strongest chapters in the history of Portuguese literary criticism. More than fifty years after the poet’s death, Botto’s poetry continues to gain critical attention due to homoerotic theme, mainly on the part of Cultural Studies and queer studies. This work, without neglecting the contribution and the value of such studies, focuses on the body of Botto’s poetry, to investigate the rhythmic movement and the construction of poetic images that shape the performance of (homo) erotic desire. From the perspective of theory and literary criticism, especially by analyzing the poems of Songs, we emphasize the aesthetic qualities of this poetic production that deserves to be revisited by contemporary criticism
