Sou professor, sim senhor!

Toward a Unified Whole: Allan Pettersson's Symphony No. 5.

Davis, Colin 08 1900 (has links)
The earlier symphonies of the 1950s embody a gradual realization of Pettersson’s own unique symphonic style, containing large-scale development, repetition, and reiteration. Symphony no. 5 takes these ideas to the extreme and represents the codification of techniques that are further developed in later symphonies. The present study examines the structure of the symphony from a voice-leading perspective. Included in this study is an analysis of the construction of the piece focusing on the development and expansion of motives that operate as structural determinants and the use of chromatic saturation to create intensity and direction. The use of linear analysis in a post-tonal context makes necessary a section devoted to explicating the graphic notation shown in the analysis and the analytical process of determining linear progressions.

Measurement of air flow at vacuum conditions using small Venturis

Alonso, Hector January 1980 (has links)
Small Venturis were used to measure air flow rates through cigarette-making machines to a vacuum header. A programmable calculator was used to develop charts for each Venturi. showing flow versus differential pressure at inlet vacuums from 8 in. (203 mm) to 20 in. (508 mm) of mercury. Use of the charts eliminates the need to calculate the flow each time a test is run. An error analysis indicated that large variations in temperature do not affect the result. The accuracy of the charts is not affected as long as the tests are run at room temperature. The Venturis, ranging in size from ½ in. (13 mm) to l ½ in. (38 mm) will continue to be used to measure and monitor vacuum requirements of the machines. / Master of Engineering

Variable geometric performance for rotary wing aircraft

Adams, George Francis January 1980 (has links)
With the advent of variable geometric wing surfaces providing noticeable performance improvements in fixed wing aircraft, a theoretical study of the performance advantages of variable geometry designs for rotary wing aircraft is presented. The analysis is developed in three sections, namely: 1) Theoretical justification of variable geometry through application of simple blade element equations; 2) A simplified design proposal to implement variable geometry in rotor systems; and 3) A numerical comparison of fixed and variable geometry performance statistics applied to specifications of an actual helicopter. / Master of Engineering

FLEEING ONE’S HOMELAND: HEALTH CHALLENGE OF CUBAN REFUGEES FROM THE MARIEL BOATLIFT

Unknown Date (has links)
The decision to flee one’s homeland is a complex event that can have a life-long impact. The diaspora of the Cuban people has occurred throughout the United States since 1959. Their stories can shed light on the health challenge of leaving one’s homeland and can contribute to a body of knowledge that can inform nursing and health care. This study presents the qualitative findings from the stories of 13 participants who arrived in the U.S. from Cuba during the Mariel Boatlift of 1980. A story inquiry research design, grounded in the theoretical underpinnings of story theory (Smith & Liehr, 2014), was utilized to explore the dimensions of the health challenge of fleeing one’s homeland, turning points and movement to resolve. Deductive and inductive analysis of the health challenge of fleeing one’s homeland revealed the dimensions of trauma related to the pre-migration, migration, and post migration experience, associated losses, and stigma. The upheaval induced stress in the lives of the participants tested their ability to cope. Managing day-to-day and utilizing internal and external resources, the participants moved to resolve the challenge of fleeing their homeland over time. Many turning points shaped the direction of their experience over decades and contributed to their ability to find meaning by becoming self-sufficient, recreating home, and reconstructing a sense of self-identity. Their unique experiences and stories have provided a voice to empower future studies to expand nursing science, influence empathy and understanding through education, foster awareness in practice, and inspire the potential for policy change for the well-being of refugee populations. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2020. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

"You don't get to sing a song when you have nothing to say" : Oliver Mtukudzi's music as a vehicle for socio-political commentary.

Sibanda, Silindiwe January 2004 (has links)
A research report submitted to the Faculty of Humanities, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Arts. / This paper analyses the music of Oliver Mtukudzi in order to ascertain how he uses his music as a means of addressing the socio-political issues in Zimbabwe. Mtukudzi's music has, for decades now, been thought to reflect and voice the realities of life in Zimbabwe. Particular emphasis has been placed on the lyrics because they contain the messages of the songs. An evaluation of the music and its addressivity in conjunction with the lyrics is also examined to determine how Mtukudzi uses them both as ways of enhancing the message in the songs. Using the theory of addressivity the paper looks at the nature of this address within the songs chosen for evaluation within the paper. Similarly the virtual audience, as distinguishable from real audiences, of Mtukudzi' s address is taken cognisance of in order to, not only verify the addressivity already discussed, but also to assess how extensive the audience's influence is in determining the songs that the artist writes. Using songs from recordings from the last five years I look specifically at how he deals with themes about women, children, HIV/AIDS and politics in his music and how this is used to address and reflect the social realities of Zimbabwe. / Andrew Chakane 2019

Piaget and education: a critique of the unproblematic application of Piaget's theory to education

Mabitsela, Babalwa Maureen 20 May 2014 (has links)
Jean Piaget’s genetic epistemology has often been applied to education. This research report looks at the interpretation and use of Piaget’s ideas to education and argues that most applications of Piaget to education are not in keeping with the nature and object of his genetic epistemology. As such the report suggests number of ways in which Piaget could be used in education without undermining the integrity of his theory.
