Étude de l’ionisation (e; 2e) et (γ; 2e) de la molécule CO2 : application du modèle tri-centrique du continuum électronique / Study (e, 2e) and (γ, 2e) ionization of the CO2 molecule : use of the tri-center model of the electronic continuumAlwan, Osman 11 March 2016 (has links)
Pour le cas du photo-double ionisation le double continuum est décrit par un modèle à trois centres corrélé / This work presents a theoretical study of single electron impact ionization called (e, 2e) and the photo-double ionization (γ, 2e) of the CO2 molecule. In these complete experiments, the emerging particles are detected in coincidence. This allows the study of the electronic structure of the target and the mechanisms of the ionization. The novelty of our approach is the introduction of a three-center Coulomb model (ThCC) satisfying the correct asymptotic conditions until the order of O ((kr) −2 in the description of emerging electrons through the first Born approximation. The initial state of the target is described by Dyson orbitals constructed on the basis of Gaussian functions. Empirical values for the screening of the three cores of the target due to the inactive electrons and to Sommerfeld parameters in the interaction potential and Coulomb functions, respectively, are introduced to obtain a better agreement with the experimental results. In the case of photo-double ionization, the double continuum is described by a correlated three centers model

HELIUM (e, 2e) COPLANAR AND OUT-OF-PLANE EXPERIMENTSdeHarak, Bruno A. 01 January 2007 (has links)
The detection of sound sources with microphone arrays can be enhanced through processing individual microphone signals prior to the delay and sum operation. One method in particular, the Phase Transform (PHAT) has demonstrated improvement in sound source location images, especially in reverberant and noisy environments. Recent work proposed a modification to the PHAT transform that allows varying degrees of spectral whitening through a single parameter, andamp;acirc;, which has shown positive improvement in target detection in simulation results. This work focuses on experimental evaluation of the modified SRP-PHAT algorithm. Performance results are computed from actual experimental setup of an 8-element perimeter array with a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis for detecting sound sources. The results verified simulation results of PHAT- andamp;acirc; in improving target detection probabilities. The ROC analysis demonstrated the relationships between various target types (narrowband and broadband), room reverberation levels (high and low) and noise levels (different SNR) with respect to optimal andamp;acirc;. Results from experiment strongly agree with those of simulations on the effect of PHAT in significantly improving detection performance for narrowband and broadband signals especially at low SNR and in the presence of high levels of reverberation.

Maximus of Tyre’s Dialexeis (second half of the 2nd century BC) are short lectures dealing with style and clarity with philosophical questions. This study aims at translating and analysing four of them, in which Maximus portrays some famous philosophers of the Greek past. He thus pictures Socrates’ trial (Dialexis 3), Homer and Plato’s quarrelling about poetry (Dialexis 17), tries to reconcile both of them by showing how great a philosopher Homer is (Dialexis 26) and praises Diogenes’ lifestyle (Dialexis 36). The literary comment is based on close readings of the annotated translation, in order to show the author’s ideal picture of the philosopher. The first chapter qualifies Maximus’ style as mainly epidictic, close to the Second Sophistic’s standards, and defines philosophy as virtue and wisdom embodied in the wisemen who succeed in cultivating them along centuries. The second chapter explores the philosopher’s main features. Whereas Socrates and Diogenes are pictured as virtuous exempla, Homer and Plato are rather dealt with as authors and teachers of wisdom. All of them are compared with diverse characters, who add to their ethos. Eventually, the third chapter is a closer look at the Dialexeis’ internal and external enunciative situation: Maximus’ and his philosophical characters’ self-display as wise and virtuous teachers leads them to confront their fellow enemies – sophists, orators, poets and artists – in the literary and aesthetic field. This study concludes on the portray of the philosopher as a man with many turns and faces.

Research Based Recommendation: Effective Parent Advocacy for Students who are Twice-Exceptional, Academically Gifted With AutismKennedy, Tara 01 December 2016 (has links)
This thesis’s purpose is twofold. The first purpose is to present both information about what twice-exceptionality is and to make recommendations based on the existing research as to how parents or guardians can become more effective advocates and advocate for effective programming and services for their children who are twice-exceptional. While this thesis focuses on a specific subset of twice-exceptional students, those who are both gifted and have autism, a good deal of the material presented will be applicable to children who are gifted with learning disabilities. Effective parent advocacy looks the same across exceptionalities: producing the best educational experience based on the child’s unique needs. Strengths-based programming has been demonstrated to benefit twice-exceptional students no matter the disability, however the areas of deficit will vary depending on the specific disability a child has and his/her unique learning profile. The resources for information on special education law and twice-exceptionality will be useful to parents regardless of the twice-exceptional child’s disability.
The second, and I feel most important, purpose of the thesis is to provide those parents/guardians with a “Quick Start Guide to Advocacy” to help them get started on the path to becoming the most effective advocate they can be for their child(ren). While educators and school administrators are expected to have a solid understanding of the rights and responsibilities of all stakeholders, many times parents are thrust into the world of special and gifted education with no preexisting knowledge. The aim of this thesis is to help bridge this gap for parents and guardians of this unique subset of students.

Electron and photon interactions in magnesium, calcium and rubidiumPursehouse, James January 2018 (has links)
In the experiments detailed in this thesis, a series of scattering experiments were conducted in a versatile scattering chamber. In order to conduct these experiments, various electronic equipment was designed and built, including new computer controlled electron analyser power supplies. This new equipment was tested, adopted in this work, and is described in this thesis. The superelastic scattering technique was used on magnesium atoms to obtain a set of atomic collision parameters (ACPs), which describe the interaction. This was achieved by exciting a beam of magnesium atoms to the 3(1)P(1) excited state using resonant laser radiation around 285 nm, and using an electron beam with well defined momentum to de-excite the atoms. The momentum of the outgoing electrons was measured as the polarisation and scattering angle were varied, to obtain the ACPs. These measurements were carried out over an angular range of 30 degrees to 120 degrees and with incident energies equivalent to 35 eV, 40 eV, 45 eV, and 55 eV. A set of theoretical data was compared to the experimental results and found to be reasonably accurate at describing the interaction. Laser-aligned and ground-state (e,2e) ionisation measurements were taken from the 4(1)S(0) and 4(1)P(1) states of calcium. The measurements were taken with the energy of the scattered and ejected electrons set at 30 eV, and with one outgoing electron angle set to 45 degrees. The differential cross section was determined for a range of angles of the second electron, ranging from 30 degrees to 65 degrees. The incident and outgoing electron momenta were all defined in the same plane with the laser polarisation being in a plane perpendicular to the incident electron. The laser aligned (e,2e) measurements were compared to two theoretical models, one of which (a 3DW model) predicted an identically zero cross section when the laser polarisation was perpendicular to the scattering plane. The other model (a TDCC model) predicted a non-zero cross section, in agreement with the experiment. Simultaneous time-resolved two-colour photoionisation from the 5(2)P(3/2) and 6(2)P(3/2) states of rubidium was also conducted. These experiments investigated two pathways to creating 0.36 eV photoelectrons from rubidium. Photoelectrons were produced by either using laser radiation at ~780 nm to resonantly excite atoms to the 5(2)P(3/2) state followed by laser radiation at ~420 nm to ionise the atoms, or laser radiation at ~420 nm was used to resonantly excite atoms to the 6(2)P(3/2) state followed by radiation at ~780 nm which then ionised the atoms. Ionisation differential cross sections were measured over a full 360 degrees by rotating the laser polarisation vectors. By selectively detuning the laser beam so as to select individual ionisation pathways, and then by tuning both lasers to resonance, quantum interferences between the pathways that lead to ionisation were observed.
