Lower-middle Carboniferous Boundary In Central Taurides, Turkey (hadim Area): Paleontological And Sequence Stratigraphic Approach

The aim is to delineate the effective boundary between Lower and Middle Carboniferous (mid-Carboniferous boundary) and to study the meter-scale cyclicity and foraminiferal evolution across a stratigraphic section comprising this boundary. In order to perform such a study, a 25,64 m stratigraphic section, which is mainly composed of carbonates has been measured in the Hadim region of the Central Taurides. In this study, calcareous foraminifers have been studied in the measured section. These foraminiferal assemblages contain 62 species. Based on these foraminifers, four biostratigraphic zones have been defined covering the interval from Upper Serpukhovian to Lower Bashkirian. These zones comprise in ascending order, the Eostaffella ex gr. ikensis &amp / #8211 / E. postmosquensis Zone (Zapaltyubinsky Horizon &amp / #8211 / Upper Serpukhovian), the Plectostaffella jakhensis &amp / #8211 / P. bogdanovkensis Zone and the Millerella marblensis Zone (Bogdanovsky Horizon &amp / #8211 / Lower Bashkirian) and the Semistaffella sp. Zone (Syuransky Horizon &amp / #8211 / Lower Bashkirian). In order to construct the sequence stratigraphic framework, detailed microfacies studies were carried out and eleven different microfacies types were identified. Based on the stacking patterns of these microfacies, six main types of cycles, A-F, and ten subcycles are recognized. Twenty-three shallowing upward meter-scale cycles and three sequence boundaries have been determined in the studied section. The duration of cycles has been calculated as 2 my and cycle periodicities correspond to the Milankovitch eccentricity bant. Results of quantitative analysis of benthic foraminifera have been used to demonstrate the biological response to cyclicity. Eostaffellids, archaediscids, unilocular forms and irregularly coiled bilocular forms are the calcareous foraminiferal groups responding the meter-scale cycles.

Die Arbeit stellt Lösungen vor, die eine solche Zusammenarbeit mit Hilfe verteilter Anwendungen auf Basis von Webservices und Peer-to-Peer Technologie unterstützen. Dabei werden vorhandene Strukturen und Beziehungen zwischen diesen Einrichtungen benutzt, um gute Ergebnisse bei der Suche nach Daten und der Steuerung von Abläufen zu erzielen.

<p align="justify">62 ostraca grecs (documents écrits sur tessons de céramique), conservés depuis 1910 à la Bibliothèque Nationale et Universitaire de Strasbourg (France), sont ici édités pour la première fois. Il s'agit essentiellement de reçus d'impôts, qui proviennent de Thèbes (Haute-Egypte) et datent du Haut-Empire romain, en particulier du IIe s. apr. J.-C. La présentation met en évidence un phénomène bien connu en papyrologie, mais qui n'avait guère été exploité pour ce type de textes: les contribuables, en conservant ces documents pour un éventuel contrôle, se constituaient de modestes archives privées. Celles-ci ont parfois été retrouvées telles quelles, puis dispersées sur la marché des antiquités: il convient donc, autant que possible, de les reconstituer dans la publication, de sorte que 27 ostraca conservés dans d'autres collections (Royal Ontario Museum; Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana; Sorbonne) mais apparentés aux nouveaux documents de Strasbourg, sont republiés ici.</p> <p><p><p align="justify">Les dossiers ainsi réunis permettent diverses recherches sur le système de taxation complexe mis en place à l'époque romaine (impôts capitaires, fonciers et autres) et sur l'organisation de la perception et ses variations dans le temps et, surtout, selon les sites. Effects of biostimulators on growth and physiological reactions of vegetables

Biotische und abiotische Stressfaktoren mindern die Quantität und die Qualität landwirtschaftlicher Erzeugnisse. Sogar die kontrollierten Wachstumsbedingungen eines Gewächshauses tragen nur bedingt zur Minderung der schädlichen Auswirkungen von suboptimalen Wachstumsfaktoren bei. Die negativen Effekte, die durch die Entstehung suboptimaler Wachstumsbedingungen auftreten können, manifestieren sich oft erst nach geraumer Zeit. Aus diesem Grund ist es wichtig, Maßnahmen zu treffen, die diesen negativen Auswirkungen entgegenwirken und eine nachhaltige Produktion von Obst und Gemüse sichern. Um die Widerstandsfähigkeit der Pflanzen gegenüber den zahlreichen Stressfaktoren zu erhöhen, werden sogenannte Pflanzenstärkungsmittel verwendet. Die zahlreichen gärtnerischen Substrate, die bei der Kultivierung von Obst und Gemüse heutzutage unentbehrlich geworden sind, besitzen verschiedene chemische und physikalische Eigenschaften. Diese Eigenschaften unterliegen dem ständigen Einfluss von verschiedenen Faktoren, insbesondere dem Pflanzenwachstum. Anderseits beeinflussen gärtnerische Substrate die Entwicklung der Pflanzen. Die Fähigkeit eines Substrates zur Wasserhaltung, sowie zur Gewährleistung einer optimalen Versorgung mit pflanzlichen Nährstoffen während der kritischen Wachstumsperioden der Pflanzen kann die Produktivität der gärtnerischen Kulturen stark beeinflussen. Dynamische Veränderungen der Substrateigenschaften während des Pflanzenwachstums und Änderungen in physiologischen Reaktionen der gärtnerischen Pflanzen können als System betrachtet werden, und als System können sie, zwecks Optimierung der pflanzlichen Systeme, beeinflusst werden. Diese Einflussnahme kann durch Verwendung von Pflanzenstärkungsmitteln verschiedener Herkunft erreicht werden. In der Fachliteratur wird häufig über Pflanzenstärkungsmittel diskutiert. Dabei wird sehr oft außer Acht gelassen, dass jedes Pflanzenstärkungsmittel ein eigenes Wirkungsspektrum besitzt. Die Breite des Wirkungsspektrums eines Pflanzenstärkungsmittels ist begrenzt, weshalb die positiven Effekte des verwendeten Mittels häufig geringer ausfallen können als erwartet. Die Arbeitshypothese dieser Arbeit belegt, dass durch die Kombination verschiedener bioaktiver Stoffe mit Pflanzenstärkungsmitteln dieses Wirkungsspektrum erweitert werden kann. Aus diesen Zusammenhängen leitet sich das Interesse an Kombinationen verschiedener Pflanzenstärkungsmittel sowie anderer bioaktiver Stoffe ab. Diese Arbeit untersucht die biologischen Effekte verschiedener Kombinationen von bioaktiven Stoffen und Pflanzenstärkungsmitteln zur Stabilisierung pflanzlicher Systeme. Als bioaktive Stoffe werden in dieser Arbeit Laktate und Humate bezeichnet, wobei Mikroorganismen als Pflanzenstärkungsmittel eingesetzt wurden. Die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit zeigen, dass ein kombinierter Einsatz von Mikroorganismen, Humaten und Laktaten zum Einen zum Erhalt der chemischen und physikalischen Eigenschaften gärtnerischer Substrate, zum Anderen zur Stabilisierung der Pflanzen gegenüber suboptimalen Wachstumsfaktoren beiträgt. Die Anwendung der Kombination von allen drei Komponenten auf Versuchsvarianten mit Gewächshausgurken als Modellpflanze zeigte, dass die Pflanzenproduktivität bei diesen Varianten am höchsten war. Die physiologischen Reaktionen der Gurkenpflanzen im Versuch mit modellierten Stressfaktoren wurden durch Chlorophyllfluoreszenz ermittelt. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass die Pflanzen, die mit allen drei Komponenten behandelt wurden, gegenüber suboptimalen Wachstumsbedingungen resistent sind. Die Resultate dieser Arbeit wurden in einem gärtnerischen Unternehmen approbiert. / Biotic and abiotic stress factors reduce the quality and quantity of the horticultural produce. Even controlled growing conditions of a greenhouse can not reduce all the negative influences of the suboptimal growing factors. The negative effects caused by the suboptimal growing factors manifest themselves only after substantial period of time. That is why it is important to take steps that counter these negative effects and enable sustainable production of fruits and vegetables. To improve the resistance of the plants against different stress factors, the plant strengtheners are applied. The horticultural substrates, which are used for cultivation of the fruits and vegetables, have become unalienable and possess the range of different physical and chemical properties. These properties are subjected to constant influence of different biotic and abiotic factors; especially those resulted from the plant growth itself. On the other hand, the substrates influence the growth of the horticultural plants. The water holding capacity of the substrate and its capacity to provide plants with nutrient elements during the critical vegetation periods can influence the productivity of the plant system. Dynamic changes of the substrate properties during the plant growth and changes in physiological reactions of horticultural plants can be viewed as a system, and as the system it can be influenced for the purposes of its optimization. This influence can be achieved by application of different plant strengtheners of different origin. The role of the plant strengthening agents is being discussed in the literature. The missing point in the discussion however is the fact that the plant strengtheners have their own activity spectrum. The activity spectrum of the bioactive substance is limited and expected positive effects of its application can be lesser that expected. The hypothesis of the thesis is based on the premise that combination of the different bioactive substances and plant strengthening agents can increase the activity spectrum. These interrelations cause an interest on combinations of different plant strengtheners and others bioactive substances. This thesis investigates biological effects different combinations of bioactive substances and plant strengtheners with an aim to stabilize plant systems. In this work, lactates and humates are described as bioactive compounds, whereas microorganisms are perceived as plant strengtheners. The results of this work show that the combined application of microorganisms, humates and lactates sustain chemical and physical properties of the horticultural substrates and at the same time stabilize plant systems under the suboptimal growing factors. The experiment variants with greenhouse cucumbers as a model plant treated with all three components showed the highest productivity. Physiological reactions of the cucumber plants were investigated through measurement of the chlorophyll fluorescence of the cucumber leaves in the experiments with modeled suboptimal growing factors. The results showed that the plants treated with a combination of humates lactates and microorganism were more resistant to suboptimal growing conditions than the plants on variants without treatment. The results of this work were approbated at a horticultural enterprise.

The Vision of Theophilus: resistance through orality among the persecuted Copts

This study is a literary and ethnographic examination of The Vision of Theophilus, a fourth century Coptic narrative, as influential counter-narrative and source of counterdiscourse against the narrative created by the historically dominant Egyptian Arab Muslim state. It shows that The Vision has provided the Copts with the means to articulate their identity as different from their oppressors through its function as a repository of Coptic ideology, history and knowledge. Specifically, it has helped them resist the erosion of those aspects of their cultural identity targeted by colonial practices through its promotion of the Coptic language, pride in Coptic history, and Christianization of the landscape. This study also suggests that The Vision tradition has helped alleviate the conditions of material and economic oppression of Copts. Drawing upon theories of Foucauldian genealogy and postcolonialism my research examines the development of Coptic identity and subjectivity in relation to assimilation practices. Using oral studies and ethnopoetics, this study traces the process of composition, transmission, stabilization and systemization of The Vision over sixteen hundred years and its dispersion over a wide geographic region from Egypt to Ethiopia, Syria, and the US. My research suggests that the resilience and effectiveness of The Vision as oral tradition lies in the stability of its core message and its ability to absorb and adapt peripheral changes to the needs of each given historical period. Close analysis of this core message as gleaned through comparative manuscript study also supports important revisions to its datation, and enables us to claim its Coptic authenticity. Characterization of Influences on the Wall Stability of Deep Drawn Paperboard Shapes

Deep drawn shapes with orthogonal wall components are usually evaluated by shape accuracy and visual quality. There have been only a few investigations on the stability of such structures; however, the effect of the wrinkles on the stability of the wall is important for packaging applications and can support the shape accuracy. This paper focuses on the influences of process parameters on the stability of orthogonal walls of shapes produced by deep drawing with rigid tools and immediate compression. The wall stability was evaluated by tensile testing orthogonal to the direction of the wrinkles. The stability distribution was characterized with regard to the drawing height, and a comparison was made between the two different materials. The wall stability decreased with increases in the forming height. Furthermore, a blank holder force design and z-directional compression level improved the wall stability. Together with an elevated moisture content of the material and thermal energy supply that delivered two to three times higher resistance against wrinkle extension, these effects drastically improved the wall stability.

Molecular characteristics of bap-positive Staphylococcus aureus strains from dairy cow mastitis

The biofilm-associated protein (Bap) of Staphylococcus aureus is a high molecular weight cell-wallanchored protein involved in biofilm formation, first described in bovine mastitis strains from Spain. So far, studies regarding Bap were mainly based on the Spanish strain V329 and its mutants, but no information on the genetic variability of bap-positive Staph. aureus strains is yet available in the literature. The present study investigated the molecular characteristics of 8 bap-positive Staph. aureus strains from subclinical bovine mastitis, isolated in 5 herds; somatic cell counts (SCC) of milk samples were also registered. Strains were characterised using MLST, SPA typing and microarray and the results were compared with V329. All isolates from this study and V329 were assigned to ST126, t605, but some molecular differences were observed. Only herd A and B strains harboured the genes for β-lactams resistance; the leukocidin D/E gene, a type I site-specific deoxyribonuclease subunit, 3rd locus gene and serin-protease A and B were carried by all strains, but not by V329, while serin-protease E was absent in V329 and in another isolate. Four isolates and V329 harboured the fibronectin-binding protein B gene. SCC showed the highest value in the milk sample affected by the only strain carrying all the virulence factors considered. Potential large variability of virulence was evidenced among V329 and all bap-positive Staph. aureus strains considered: the carriage of fnb could enhance the accumulation of biofilm, but the lack of lukD/E and splA, B or E might decrease the invasiveness of strain.
