Syftet med detta arbete är att synliggöra processen vid arrangerandet av en låt för vokalgrupp i den afroamerikanska genren. Bland annat musikteoriprofessorn Roine Janssons idéer om vokalgruppsarrangering, The Real Groups- och Trey McLaughlins vokalgruppsarrangemang har inspirerat detta arbete. För att undersöka processen har den dokumenterats genom loggboksskrivande, sparade sibeliusutkast och videoinspelningar från träffar med en ihopsatt vokalgrupp som testar arrangemanget allteftersom det utformats. Undersökandet av vad en kreativ process innebär har också stått i fokus. I mitt resultat har det kommit fram vad jag har lagt störst vikt vid. Det har varit variation, dynamisk balans, låta röster härma andra instrument, sociala aspekter vid arrangerandet och att ha tid och att bejaka och testa allt. Jag har till stor del arbetat efter eget tycke och smak med att arrangera och experimentera för att hitta en helhet så som jag vill ha den och som fungerar för sångare i målgruppen. I diskussionen tar jag upp insikter om arrangering och vad som har gynnat kreativiteten.

Mitt arbete handlar om att undersöka mitt vokala uttryck och att analysera utvecklingsprocessen. Underlaget för mitt arbete har varit egen praktisk erfarenhet och tidigare forskning (om att skriva musik för sin röst). Den här uppsatsen består av tre delar; klingande musik; talad text och vokal uppvisning framförd genom röstmemon och denna skrivna text.  Frågeställning som jag grundar min undersökning på är ”hur ser processen ut när jag utvecklar mitt vokala uttryck”?  Jag valde att använda mig av inspelningsappen "röstmemo" på min Iphone för att tydligare demonstrera vad jag har gjort och för att förklara mina tankar kring mitt vokala uttryck. På det sättet har jag tydligare kunnat få fram den emotionella och vokala processen jag genomgick. Jag har även samlat på mig återanvändbart material, uttryck och röstkvaliteter som kan användas i framtida verk. Några utav de viktigaste upptäckterna jag gjort i det här arbetet är att jag har fått syn på hur jag förmedlar mina verk genom min röst och hur jag uttrycker mig vokalt på ett djupgående sätt. Mitt vokala uttryck baserar sig mycket på vad låten handlar om, på så sätt tror jag att lyssnaren kan förstå vad jag vill förmedla även om de exempelvis inte förstår vad orden i sig betyder. / My thesis is about examining my vocal expression and analysing my process when doing so. The basis for my work has been my own practical experience and a previous bachelor’s thesis (about composing music for your own voice). This thesis consists of three parts: sounding music, spoken text and vocal demonstration performed on Apple voice memo application, and this written text. The main question of my thesis is ”what does the process look like when I develop my vocal expression”? I chose to use a voice memo to demonstrate in a more explicit way what I have done and to explain my thoughts about my vocal expression. In that way, I have also been able to bring out the emotional and vocal process I went through. I have also accumulated reusable material, expressions and voice qualities that I like so much that I can use them in the future. Some of the most important findings I’ve made in this thesis are how I’ve been able to more profoundly analyse and understand analyse my vocal expression when trying to communicate something in a song. My vocal expression is very much based on what the song is about, in this way I think the listener can understand what I want to convey even if they, for example, do not understand what the words in themselves mean.

It is the hope and belief of the writer that this thesis will make available in concise form much information which the ambitious director of a high school a cappella choir would be unable to obtain without expending considerable time and energy.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the management of tessitura in the choir though the use of choral pivoting in Frank Martin's Messe pour double choeur a cappella (1922), since the ranges of a vast number of choral works extend beyond the limits of what the American Academy of Teacher's of Singing have deemed "best" and "safest." According to the American Academy of Teachers of Singing, many great teachers of singing hesitate to allow their "pupils to participate in choral singing because experience has proven that, due to the unusually high tessituras dominating the arrangements of many choral works, harm is done to the voice. "This study includes an in-depth summary of the anatomy and physiology of the vocal mechanism in specific registers and the potential for harm, vocal strain, or vocal fatigue when singers must sing in an extremely high or low tessitura for an extended amount of time. Three methods of vocal pivoting are examined and explanations given as to how choral pivoting may be applied in Messe pour double choeur a cappella.

Guarino Guarini's SS. Sindone Chapel and its relic offer the occasion to contemplate the paradox of the Incarnation in architecture--a dialectic of presence and absence. The thesis begins with a return to the Gospel accounts of the Empty Tomb, and examines the tradition of reliquary and martyria which the Chapel is inscribed in. The Incarnation theme is then traced to the late seventeenth century context of the Chapel and is considered in the Counter-Reformation context of Turin. The architectural organization of the theme of presence and absence is then explored in the Chapel. In Part II, an examination of Architettura Civile, Guarini's treatise on architecture, seeks to understand the theory of parallel projection (ortografia) with regards to the Chapel's themes. In the last stage Guarini's philosophical treatise sheds some interesting light on ortografia--Presence and absence weave an architectural idea, a geometrical theory, a theological mystery.
