A new development in domain decomposition techniques for analysis of plates with mixed edge supports

Su, G. H., University of Western Sydney, Nepean, School of Civic Engineering and Environment January 2000 (has links)
The importance of plates, with discontinuities in boundary supports in aeronautical and marine structures, have led to various techniques to solve plate problems with mixed edge support conditions. The domain decomposition method is one of the most effective of these techniques, providing accurate numerical solutions. This method is used to investigate the vibration and buckling of flat, isotropic, thin and elastic plates with mixed edge support conditions. Two practical approaches have been developed as an extension of the domain decomposition method, namely, the primary-secondary domain (PSD) approach and the line-domains (LD) approach. The PSD approach decomposes a plate into one primary domain and one/two secondary domain(s). The LD approach considers interconnecting boundaries as dominant domains whose basic functions take a higher edge restraint from the neighbouring edges. Convergence and comparison studies are carried out on a number of selected rectangular plate cases. Extensive practical plate problems with various shapes, combinations of mixed boundary conditions and different inplane loading conditions have been solved by the PSD and LD approaches. / Master of Engineering (Hons)

Emotional Disturbance as an Educational Disability: Implications for Social Workers

Rippey, Jean Michele 09 December 2008 (has links)
This qualitative study addressed an intersection in which the application of the medical model to educational disabilities and its implications for educational labeling of students interacted with the professional enculturation of clinical social workers. Employed as clinicians in programs administered in a large south eastern school district in the United States, five social workers served elementary students labeled Emotionally/Behaviorally Disabled (EBD) through federally authorized provisions for special education related services. This study used grounded theory methods to discover and analyze the social workers' underlying assumptions, values, and patterns of practice with regard to ethical and guild issues, roles and responsibilities, and bases of knowledge. The study found that participants interpreted and applied a knowledge base grounded in the normative aspects of social work. Their preparation made it possible to compete for licensure (LCSW) and assume roles as professional helpers but did not provide all the tools they needed to carry out their work as clinicians with students in EBD programs. Secondly, it found that ambiguities regarding ethics, guild issues, and roles emerged with regard to acting as helping professionals in an integrated professional setting. Each practitioner exercised certain latitude to respond as needed to challenges which varied from site to site. Finally, the findings reflected how the clinicians have situated themselves in the face of the demands of documentation procedures and of participation in meetings endemic to special education.

Manöverkrigföringens indirekta och direkta metod : en studie i fördelningen av dessa vid flyginsatser under Operation Desert Storm

Samsyn som grund till förändring? : En studie om vad som skapar samsyn och dess betydelse i förändringsprocesser

Feller, Marko, Löfgren, David January 2013 (has links)
Globalization has among other tendencies led to the emergence of new ways of doing business. One of the ways for organizations to meet the demands of a new competitive landscape has been through management accounting change, a field which has become increasingly popular in research. This paper builds on that research and seeks to investigate the case of the implementation of a new management accounting system in a Swedish company which was triggered by strategic change. Commonality through the interactive approach is by some researchers seen as a key to successful change. This approach is contrasted to the importance of symbolic constructs and change recipients’ cognitive effort to understand the meaning of change for which Framing theory is applied. The paper comes to the conclusion that both approaches are necessary in a change process, and shows further that their usage will depend on the process’ timeframe and change recipients’ position in the organization.

Läraren och läsundervisningen : En studie av åldersintegrerad pedagogisk praktik med sex- och sjuåringar / The teacher and the reading instruction : A study of a mixed-age pedagogical practice with six- and seven-year old children

Ahl, Astrid January 1998 (has links)
This dissertation is about reading instruction in six mixed-aged classes, called child schools, with six and seven year old children. The overall questions of this study were: How did the teachers in child schools organise work in general and reading instruction in particular? How did they handle for example the increasing range of variation concerning knowledge and skills that goes together with increasing variation of age? With respect to reading the investigation also examined the content of reading instruction and the extent to which teachers took into account those factors that, according to reading research, are important for the acquisition of reading skills? Overall the research aimed to examine how the reading ability of the pupils developed during their first years at school. Six child schools were included in the study. The data collection extended over three years and contained field studies, interviews with the staff and reading tests with the pupils. Reading theories were used to analyse the form of the reading instruction and Basil Bernstein's theory of visible and invisible pedagogy was used to analyse pedagogical practice in its context. With one exception a visible pedagogy dominated in all the child schools. During lessons designated "my own work" the pupils were allowed to plan their work. This weak framing allowed the pupils to sort themselves into groups of more or less successful learners. In reading instruction, elements of two different models for instruction were combined, e.g. the whole language and the basal reading approach. My conclusion is that this combination is effective in a mixed-age group. Pupils at different competence levels benefit from different approaches. The reading comprehension of the child school pupils did not differ from the levels obtained with comparable pupils in national surveys. The test results, like the learning conditions varied between the schools. In my view the test results were not merely a consequence of the instruction, but also of other circumstances that interacted with the pedagogy.
