Divining The Divine: Pop Mythology And Its Worth

Hall, James 01 January 2010 (has links)
My thesis compares classic mythology of cultures like ancient Greece to the mythology that has risen from the popular culture of contemporary western civilizations like America. While there are some differences, the two use the same archetypes that humanity has used for generations. In my work I use sculpture and photography to show their similarities and differences in form and story.

Thought and Invention: a study of architectural form through the particular and the universal

Ritchie, William Michael 05 September 2007 (has links)
This thesis study investigates the significance of the archetypal images of architecture and the inherent relationship between space, structure, and form. How are space and form defined by architecture? Is form a premeditated thing, and, if so, how is it intuitively understood by the creative process? By studying the models and patterns through which the autonomous language of architecture is communicated, the thesis study attempts to develop an understanding of the nature of form through universal and particular conditions. Rather than present the study as a completed body of work ending with an objective conclusion, the included images and text represent an ongoing investigation addressing critical architectural ideas including the relationship between form and context and the role of tradition and historical precedent as a deciding factor of modern architecture. / Master of Architecture

Exploring the role of supplier relationship management for sustainable operations: an OR perspective

Sharif, Amir M., Alshawi, S., Kamal, M.M., Eldabi, T., Mazhar, A. 11 2013 (has links)
No / This paper provides a systems-based approach to the exploration of the relationship and integration between Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) factors as part of a Sustainable Operations Management (SOM) agenda. The authors have chosen electronic procurement (e-Procurement) as a suitable context in this light. Through a review of extant literature, a Systems Archetype (SA) model was developed (based on the ‘Accidental Adversaries’ archetype) and findings from a quantitative pilot study exploring key factors pertinent to e-Procurement SRM were gathered, and hence evaluated against SOM factors. The objective of this research was to describe and visualise the causal interrelationships involved in SRM-SOM through the application of a SA (as an Operations Research tool). The authors believe that this research also provides a unique approach to developing and harnessing the useful and unique properties of Systems Thinking (ST), by attempting to reduce and organise the (generally ad hoc and wide-ranging) sequence of subjective perspectives commonly experienced in causal mapping experiments. The paper builds upon the extant literature, and provides further basis for continuing research in the areas of ST, SAs and the application of operational research to plan sustainable operations.

Single parent families: from stereotype to archetype

Monama, Diana Dikeledi 30 November 2007 (has links)
The number of single-parent families has increased dramatically in the world. In South Africa, this increase has partly been due to the increased number of deaths as a result of the AIDS pandemic. The purpose of this study is to explore experiences of widowers as single parents. The study proposes to elevate the view of single-parent families, which classes them as stereotypes of victimization, to where such families come to represent responsible archetypes. Unstructured in-depth interviews were used to obtain data from two Black and two White widowed single fathers. Thematic content analysis was utilized to identify emerging themes from the fathers' stories. Fathers in this study challenged the deficit model's view of single parenting which claims that these families are broken. As far as its applicability is concerned, this study may be beneficial to psychotherapists, single parents and society as a whole. / Psychology / M.A.(Clinical Psychology)

Movie in search of America: The rhetoric of myth in Easy Rider

Raynes, Hayley Susan 01 January 2005 (has links)
This thesis is a rhetorical analysis of the movie Easy Rider. It explores how auteurs Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and Terry Southern's use of road, regional, and cowboy mythology creates a text that simultaneously exposes and is dominated by the ironies inherent in American culture and breathes new life into the cowboy myth, reaffirming the cowboy's place as one of America's most enduring cultural icons.

Mythology – archaic relics or an archetypal and universal source of constant renewal? : an exploration of the relationship between myth and archetype in the myth of Demeter and Persephone

Conradie, Catharina Maria 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil (Ancient Studies)--University of Stellenbosch, 2007. / This thesis deals with the connection between mythology and psychagogy, and a structured way of reading and using myth for personal development is suggested. The myth of Demeter and Persephone is used for this purpose, and the text of the Homeric Hymn to Demeter is analysed as the basic (but not exclusive) text. In the modern world the psychagogic component relies on the work of Jung, which is seen as the most appropriate template available. His concept of the archetype is particularly useful, and the archetype of the mother goddess is analysed as a representation of the personal and spiritual development of modern women.

Prekės ženklo charakterio archetipų sistema ir jos praktinis pritaikymas dizainui / Brand archetype sytems in design practice

Berlinskij, Dmitrij 03 July 2014 (has links)
Brand archetypes are great tool to design using philosophical systems. These systems can change communication workflow of the artist or their agents with their clients. Working with the target group, asking questions, gathering information about their perception, allows artist to change existing cliche or fallow, search for existing. This approach brings more decision making to designer. Then the design is created by using gathered material, client values and market situation.
