De sökte substitutionsbehandling-vad skiljde dem åt? : Jämförelse i bakgrundsfaktorer mellan opiat- och opioidberoende utifrån ASI-intervjuerMonwell, Bodil January 2012 (has links)
Through changes in the code of statutes, SOSFS 2009:27 (M), opioid addicts are excluded since March 1 2010 from possibilities to be accepted for substitution treatment. Opiate addicts are solitary admitted for substitution treatment from that date. Opioid addicts are excluded admission for treatment regardless of the fact that they fulfil the ICD-10 diagnosis F.11.2, i.e. opioid/opiate addictive criteria. The alteration in the statutes was carried out in reference to the fact that evidence for this kind of treatment intended for opioid addicts was missing. Both groups i.e. opiate – and opioid addicts, are nevertheless experienced in clinical work , to have extensive problems with addiction, health, social situation along with the risk of premature death. The purpose with this study is to identify what differences and/or similarities there are in background varieties and the severity of the problems between the groups. This is conducted with the use of a population (n=127) with comparable background material, e.g. collected Addictions Severe Index- interviews, scientifically survey and compare background factors and the severity of the problems. The main discovery in this study is that one can demonstrate great similarities between the groups regarding background as well as the severity of the problems. It is therefore of great interest, on a individual as well as a social oriented level, that pursued studies regarding diagnostic safety and on processes in substitution program are needed to generate further knowledge as a foundation for development of future care and changes in the code of statutes.

With an explorative approach, this master thesis attempts to map associations and compare groupings of clients who have undergone an ASI Interview by The Swedish Prison and Probation Service, Kriminalvården. The study is based on 2 317 interviews carried out during the period 2008-2010, focusing on abuse of alcohol and narcotic substances. We will graphically illustrate interesting associations and study how the need for help varies throughout different areas of the respondents’ lives. Another aspect of this study is to evaluate the quality of the data material and to investigate non-response in the different variables. The quality of the material is fairly high and non-response is not extensive enough to affect analysis and inference. The errors found are almost exclusively due to how data is fed into the system. Since the majority of variables are qualitative, appropriate methods of analysis proved to be chi-square tests, correspondence analysis and association analysis. Most results confirm the existing image of an abusive personality, which has been presented in several studies before this one. A majority of the clients are men (85%) and the average age is 34 years. Interviewer estimates of the respondents’ need for help show that narcotic substances and criminal behavior are by far the greatest problem areas. The predominant drug is amphetamine (18%), followed by alcohol (15%) and cannabis (10%). We have established several significant differences between men and women, and between clients of different age groups. Young respondents show greater problems concerning criminal behavior, narcotic substances, work/providing and psychological health. With increased age we see enhanced difficulties regarding physical health and alcohol. Men more often exhibit problems concerning criminal behavior and narcotic substances, while women need increased help in areas of family/social life, physical health and psychological health.

The substance abuse is a major social problem in public health in most countries, due to the negative consequences of this behavior on the physical and emotional development of the people involved. The initiation phase of the substance abuse is beginning at earlier ages, and, as a consequence of that, an assessment to identify risk behaviors is very important for an acurate triage and subsequent steps. The objective of this study was to review studies and to describe 3 important instruments validated for Brazil and applied for the assessment of substance abuse in adolescents. METHOD: A literature review study, in the period from January of 1998 to August of 2010, in the databases of: Adolec, MedLine, Lilacs, PubMed and SciELO. In the selection of the studies the following criteria were evaluated: articles with application of the instruments DUSI-R, Teen ASI, and CBCL; the detailing of the instrument utilized for diagnostics; utilization of a performance indicator; quality of the study that enables the performance assessment of the instrument, and its coherence with the literature. RESULTS: 767 articles were found according to the inclusion criteria, and 54 of them were analysed, after the exclusions of the ones that did not meet the detailed criteria. 30 articles for the DUSI-R instrument were found, 25 of them related to interventions, prevalence and others. 5 studies were related to the validation of the instrument, with sensitivity rates varying from 80 to 85% and specificity variying from 70 to 90%. Another measure was the internal consistency with Cronbachs Alpha varying from 0.91 to 0.9451, presented in two studies. For the Teen ASI, 12 articles were found, and 8 of them were related to intervention, prevalence and others. For the validation of the instrument, 4 studies were found, with the reliability in 2 studies varying from r = 0.69 to 0.90, one study with internal consistency with Cronbachs Alpha varying from 0.54 to 0.88 and another study with the area under the ROC curve = 0.88. For the CBCL, 12 studies were found, and 8 of them were related to the prevalence and risk factors. The performance measures were presented in 4 studies, where 2 instruments measured the sensitivity rate varying from 80.4 to 87%. One study report the Cronbachs Alpha between 0.85 and 0.94, and another study studied the psicometric properties for the German version. CONCLUSION: The results of the studies suggest that the instruments included on the research evaluate the substance abuse in adolescents, with good psychometric properties, although in different ways. The Teen ASI and DUSI-R evaluate the substance abuse and other areas of life. The CBCL is useful to evaluate the mental health, and its not specific to conduct an assessment for substance abuse. So, when choosing assessment instruments, its important to consider: time management, investment in the education of the professionals; and consolidation of the results that contribute effectively to the improvement of the treatment

REGULATION OF SATIETY QUIESCENCE: CYCLIC GMP, TGF BETA, AND THE ASI NEURONGallagher, Thomas 02 December 2013 (has links)
The worm Caenorhabditis elegans is a well-studied model organism in numerous aspects of its biology. This small free living nematode has less than 1,000 cells, but shows clear conservation in both signaling and behavior to mammals in aspects of appetite control. This is of importance to humans, where failure of appetite control is a major factor in the unprecedented obesity epidemic that we see today. In general, worm behavior reflects its internal nutritional state and the availability and quality of food. Specifically, worms show a behavioral state that mimics aspects of the mammalian behavioral satiety sequence, which has been termed satiety quiescence. We have used locomotion tracking and Hidden Markov Model analysis to identify worm behavioral state over time, finding quiescence along with the established worm locomotive behaviors roaming and dwelling. Using this analysis as well as more conventional cell biology and genetic approaches we have further investigated satiety signaling pathways. We have found that the neuron ASI is a major center of integration of signals regarding the internal nutritional state of the worms as well as the nutritional content of its environment. Our results show that cGMP causes levels of the TGFβ ligand to be increased in fasted worms, which is then released and binds to its receptor on the RIM and RIC neurons. This signaling connects nutritional state to behavioral response, promoting the sleep-like behavioral state satiety quiescence. Additionally, we have begun a candidate approach examining several other groups of signaling molecules for potential roles in satiety quiescence signaling including cannabinoids, multidrug resistance proteins, and neuropeptides. The result of this investigation is a better understanding of mechanisms of satiety quiescence signaling as well as a new tool that provides highly quantitative, unbiased, and automated data to aid in our ongoing work.

A Neural Circuit of Appetite Control in C. elegansDavis, Kristen C 01 January 2016 (has links)
Feeding behavior and its associated neural circuitry is complex and intricate in mammalian systems, however, a simple model organism, such as C. elegans provides a more basic approach to understand factors and molecules involved. The fruit-dwelling nematode provides a unique set of resources; it only consists of 959 cells, 302 of which are neurons. In addition, each neuron’s connectivity and position within the worm is known and consistent between animals. Conservation of neurotransmitters and biochemical processes add to this impressive list. These resources provide an excellent background to address feeding behavior and the neural structures governing it.
Feeding behavior in worms mimics feeding behavior in more complex organisms. They decide when to eat based on recent feeding behavior, current nutritional status, availability of food, and familiarity with the food available. Following starvation and refeeding worms enter a behavioral state similar to post-prandial sleep. The worms will stop eating and stop moving, in a state referred to as satiety quiescence. The ability to enter this state and maintain it is dependent on a pair of neurons in the head of C. elegans called ASI. Using calcium imaging and an automated satiety quiescence assay, our lab has found that this neuron pair is important for entering satiety quiescence and senses food. Feeding behavior, such as satiety quiescence, is regulated by numerous factors internal and external to the worm. Another pair of head neurons, ASH are capable of suppressing ASI’s activity in the presence of noxious stimuli and the presence of nutrients (potentially acting via ASI) can suppress ASH’s activation to noxious stimuli under starvation conditions.
The interaction between these two neuron pairs can be regulated by other signals from the rest of the worm. We identified an opioid signal that can modulate the response of ASI to noxious stimulus signaling from ASH under starvation conditions. Other signals were identified to influence satiety behavior and this circuit including serotonin, octopamine, glutamate, and adenosine. In addition to these signals, a group of transcription factors were identified that may play a role in conveying the status of fat storage within the worm to its nervous system. Nuclear hormone receptors were found to increase their expression during starvation then decrease their expression upon refeeding. Upon completion of this work, we have a reached a greater understanding of the internal and external conditions governing feeding and avoidance behaviors.

Previous issue date: 2017-02-16 / Irrigation acts as an important factor to reduce risks and increase productivity in agricultural crops. However, due to increasing water scarcity and the waste of water practiced by many farmers, there is great concern about the negative impacts of this technique on the productive sector, generating the need to establish a balance between agricultural productivity and the preservation of natural resources. In this scenario, studies related to water economics are inserted through more sustainable types of irrigation management. The objective of this study was use the Simplified Irrigation Controller sensor positioned in the atmosphere, to control the irrigation of lettuce seedlings based on the variation of water vapor pressure. The performance of the adaptation was evaluated by monitoring plant parameters, as well as, water use efficiency (WUE). The device was evaluated with the ceramic sensor positioned outside the substrate, in the atmosphere adjacent to the production trays, seeking to correlate the applied water with the vapor pressure deficit (VPD) observed at the experiment site. The seeds of the Regina cultivar were sown in polystyrene trays (200 cells) with substrate used in organic cultivation. A randomized block design was used in a factorial scheme where factor A were four adjustments of the SIC (3.5; 5, 6.5 and 8kPa) and factor B were the two evaluation periods (from July 8 to August 8 and September 16 to October 16, both in 2016) with four replications, totaling 32 plots (experimental units). Parameters related to the growth and physiology of the crop was evaluated, such as: fresh mass, dry mass, water use efficiency, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters and stomatal conductance. The results were submitted to analysis of variance and in the presence of significant interaction a Sliced- analysis was carried out for each factor. Scott-Knott test was used to determine significance with the cut off at 5%.Biometric and physiological variables tested showed a decrease as the tested tensions were increased. The 3.5 kPa tension showed a higher potential for producing more vigorous seedlings, presenting WUE with an average value of 1.37 g L-1 and producing a seedling with approximately 32.4 mL of water in the second experimental period. The cultivation of lettuce seedlings is possible in both experimental periods. The results show the availability of the use of the SIC with atmospheric sensor and compatibility of the applied water volume applied with the observed VPD / A irriga??o atua como importante fator de redu??o de risco e incremento na produ??o de culturas agr?colas.

HYBRID, ROW WIDTH, AND PLANT POPULATION EFFECT ON CORN YIELD IN KENTUCKYMcFarland, Chelsea Clay 01 January 2013 (has links)
Studies were conducted in 2011 and 2012 to determine if narrow row corn (Zea mays L.) and/or greater plant populations could affect yield, time to silking, and other physiological characteristics. Main plots of six hybrids were arranged as a randomized complete bock design with three replications. Split plots were row widths of 76-cm (wide rows) and 20-cm rows on 76-cm spacing (twin rows). Split-split plots were target plant populations of 75 000 and 111 000 plants ha-1. Corn was no-till seeded into soybean stubble near Lexington, KY in 2011 and 2012. Year interacted with most factors analyzed in the study. This was expected, given the extreme differences in weather. 2011 ASI (days) approached zero as plant population increased in wide rows in two out of four hybrids. ASI response to plant population in twin rows was not significant for any hybrid. In 2011, yield was greater in twin rows than wide rows. For significant equations, in 2011 grain yield increased as plant population increased, but in 2012 grain yield decreased as plant population increased, across both row widths. Kernel number per ear decreased as plant population increased in 2011 and 2012, but at different rates for wide and twin rows.

Vård efter behov, eller?Asan, Seda, Strid, Mia January 2014 (has links)
The aim of the study was to examine how social workers investigate and assess addiction cases whether gender matters or not. The following questions were asked in the study;•Does the gender of the client influence whether a case is opened after the first meeting at the Addiction Unit?•Do social workers consider there is a difference in handling an addiction treatment investigation when the client is a man or a woman? •Do divergences exist in the assessment and the final decision process when the case concerns a man or a woman? The study is based on the qualitative method. The material is gathered from semi-structured interviews with social workers. Their job tasks include assessment and evaluation of addiction cases. The empiric interview material has been analyzed from a gender perspective. The results show that the social workers unanimously agree; the gender does not affect the investigation, assessment and whether a case is opened or not when a client asks for addiction treatment. The social workers almost agree; it is primarily the client’s point of view and treatment needs that decide the focus in the investigation, assessment and decision. However, gender may influence the selection of available treatments for the individual client. According to two social workers gender may influence reception, how the social workers at the Units talk about their clients, the severity and need.

The effects on treatment outcomes of counselors' access to the addiction severity index scores of substance abusersMadison, Octavia D. 26 October 2005 (has links)
An experimental design, (the pretest/posttest design) was used in this study to investigate the efficacy of substance abuse treatment using two instruments, the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) and the biopsychosocial assessment.
Fifty-six subjects admitted to the SYMBAS TEAM Substance Abuse Treatment Program were assessed during the initial stage of treatment using the biopsychosocial assessment and the ASI. Through the process of random selection, subjects were placed in one of two groups, an experimental group or a control group. Counselors working with the subjects in the experimental group had access to the results of the ASI and biopsychosocial assessment for treatment planning, and the counselors working with the subjects in the control group had access only to the results of the biopsychosocial assessment. At the end of treatment (gO-days), the subjects in both groups were re-assessed using the ASI to determine what differences, if any, occurred between the two sample groups.
Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics along with the Student test. Results revealed that there were no statistically significant differences between the two sample groups at the .05 alpha level. However, significant reductions between the ASI pre- and posttests mean scores were noted among several of the variables in both sample groups. Also, the counselors' perceptions of the ASI suggested that the ASI was preferred over the bippsychosocial assessment for treatment planning, because of its structure and the amount of time required to administer the instrument. / Ed.
