Advertisement to Mobile Phones, Success or Failure? : : A STUDY OF SWEDISH YOUTHS ACCEPTANCE TOWARDS RECEIVING MOBILE ADVERTISEMENT

Olofsson, Anton, Pietz, Michal January 2009 (has links)
The great technological development under the last decade has given the organizations new possibilities to market them self. Mobiles phones, smart phones and the new ultraportable laptops which make it possible to for organizations to send advertisement consumers 24/7. This has led to a steady increase in research during the last decade concerning mobile advertising. The research has mainly been focused on how problems with negative attitudes towards mobile advertising can be changed in to positive ones. Mobile advertising suffers from the same problems as several recently introduced marketing channels have done e.g. ecommerce like trust, privacy and risks. Beside the negative aspects, mobile advertising research has focused on identifying factors that will stimuli consumer willingness to receive mobile advertisement and identified a target group for this marketing channel. The target group has been identified to be young adults in the ages of 18-35. We will in our research´focus on this area about this different problem factors with mobile advertising and try to find which factors that are most important and affecting consumers attitudes towards mobile advertising we further want to develop ideas for how marketers can construct mobile advertising so that consumers accept it as a marketing channels. To examine this, quantitative method was used with a sample of 198 15-19 year old high school students in Umea responding to our survey. The sample was chosen because we believe that this age group will be the ones that are the target for mobile advertisers when the business have picked up more speed in a few years time. This group has also been identified by other researchers as an interesting segment to investigate. We have a positivistic approach to the study and therefore we have worked out six hypotheses that will be tested and then compared with our theoretical framework using a deductive method. Our findings confirmed five out of six hypotheses. Consumers are negatively affected by factors as risk, lack of trust and privacy. The attitudes can change towards more positive ones if consumers perceive the advertisement relevant, entertaining, valuable functional and if they get some form of incentives for receiving advertisement. The hypothesis that we were not able to confirm concerned the consumer factors where only three of five factors were significant in our tests.

Social acceptance of antimalarial strategies in Uganda

Helldorff, Hedvig January 2008 (has links)
According to the World Health Organization(WHO) the most efficient and cost-effective strategies in the global fight of malaria are the Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) and the Insecticide Treated Nets ITNs). However, since the strategies include the use of synthetic insecticides, WHO reports that they sometimes meet opposition in the society. In a Global Malaria Programme report from 20061, WHO describes that concerns in the community regarding the safety of the IRS hinder its effective implementation. WHO states that the social acceptability of ITNs2 has to increase. This study aims at investigating if and where in the Ugandan society the antimalarial strategies meet opposition. The study analyzes whether authorities, non-governmental organizations and caretakers in one region in Uganda reject the antimalarial strategies recommended by WHO. The aim is further to investigate where focus should be put in order to meet the opposition (if any) to current strategies and thus facilitate the implementation of the strategies. The methodology used is an empirical approach based on interviews with officials at authorities, representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and caretakers in the slum areas in Kawempe Division, which is an area highly exposed to malaria, in Uganda. The results show that the authorities and the NGOs in this study accept the current strategies but believe that they are not fully accepted by caretakers. Further, the authorities and the NGOs point out that current strategies, mainly IRS, meet great resistance among politicians and within the agricultural and environmental sector. Nevertheless, the majority of the caretakers in the interviews does accept the strategies and give other reasons for not having them implemented in their houses. Many of the households do not have the money neither to buy the ITNs nor to have the IRS implemented in their houses. Thus, this study implies that the opposition to the current strategies is not among authorities, NGOs or caretakers but in the political, environmental and agricultural sphere. In order to fight malaria in the study area, WHO and stakeholders have to work with the change of attitudes among politicians and stakeholders within the environmental and agricultural sector in Uganda. They also have to provide poor households with ITNs or IRS for free, since lack of money is the reason for the studied group of caretakers not having the recommended strategies implemented in their houses.

Consumer behavior and public acceptance to the introduction of a congestion charge in Gothenburg.

Loewe, Christian, Hammar, Erik, Åberg, Björn January 2013 (has links)
Since the implementation of the congestion charge in Gothenburg on the first of January 2013, there has been a debate whether or not the congestion charge would harm the retail business. This concerns, in particular the retail stores located in the charging zone. The general aim of this study was to investigate attitudes and consumer behavior related to the recently introduced congestion charge in Gothenburg and to illustrate the possible impact the congestion charge may have had on retail business performance. In order to do this we conducted a questionnaire survey of visitors to Bäckebol shopping center (n=335). The questionnaire consisted of 24 questions and the response rate was 76 %. In addition, we performed two extensive interviews with key representatives for the local retail business in order to add context and background to the questionnaire findings.  In the questionnaire, consumer behavior was investigated by questions on time of visit, destination, and means of transport. In the analyses we assessed associations between changes in consumer behavior, acceptance and demographic factors. The results of this study showed a low level of acceptance of the congestion charge in the study population. Furthermore, we found a high proportion of subjects reporting a behavioral change related to the introduction of the congestion charge. This was associated to but not explained by a low level of acceptance. It was also related to residency outside the inner parts of Gothenburg.  In this way our results support the theory of an association between behavioral change, degree of acceptance as well as demographic factors. However, in a comparison of certain aspects of behavioral change to a previous study conducted prior to the introduction of the congestion charge we found no difference. It is likely that behavioral changes related to the congestion charge have taken place but they may have been exaggerated in the questionnaire responses. The interviews implied that the congestion charge has had an effect on business performance in Gothenburg but in this investigation we have not been able to find firm proof of this. We can conclude that there appears to be a low acceptance of the congestion charge in particular in suburban areas of Gothenburg and this is most likely associated with a consumer behavioral change.  For further research it would be interesting to obtain information on business performance and customer frequencies before and after the introduction of the congestion charge. In addition it would be of interest to investigate in greater detail the association between acceptance and behavioral change and if retail stores that handle bulky goods are more likely to be affected by a congestion charges than other businesses.

Information System Usage - a study in the Middle East

Jonsson, Åsa January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this research project was to find out why the employees in the Middle East region, as a part of a large global company, did not use a project tracking information system. The research was conducted with a mixed method, starting with a qualitative study in order to gain an understanding of the problem and the current setting. Thereafter, hypotheses were tested with an e-survey sent out to the entire user group, which were around 350 persons. The outcome of the survey was surprisingly that the hypotheses, which were based on the United Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), were rejected. The findings in this study showed that if the user experiences a relative advantage with the system it has a positive effect on use as well as good data quality. This study has found that the opinions of colleagues and managers play a role on use and also the lack of integration. This research will serve as a base for future studies to investigate how the system is used and how it supports the business process. Furthermore, these findings contribute to the criticism on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and its successor.

The Impact of Psychological Acceptance and Sibling Relationship Quality on Depression and Perceived Stigma for Youth Living with HIV

Snead, Kara E. 11 April 2011 (has links)
Compared to their uninfected peers, youth living with HIV experience greater distress related to a multitude of stressors they face. In order to enhance the lives of youth who are living with HIV, it is important to identify the personal and social resources that these individuals might bring to coping with their disease. Using the compensatory hypothesis and resiliency theory as conceptual frameworks, the present study examined the function of both psychological acceptance and sibling relationships for youths in managing depression and HIV-related stigma. In addition, the current study investigated the interactive effects of psychological acceptance and sibling relationship quality on these outcomes for youths living with HIV. The participants for the current study included 68 youth who were recruited as part of another study examining adolescents infected with HIV and their caregivers. The racial composition of the final sample consisted of 94% African Americans and 6 % who identified as another racial minority. The current sample consisted of 28 males, 38 females, and 2 transgendered youth between the ages of 12 and 23 (M= 17.9, SD= 2.8). In the sample, 56% of youth were perinatally infected and 44% were behaviorally infected. Regression analyses indicated no support for the complex associations among resources posited in the resiliency model and the compensatory hypothesis. Greater psychological acceptance was associated with both less depression and less stigma. Both the positive and negative aspects of sibling relationships demonstrated importance for youth’s psychological well-being, such that supportive sibling relationships were associated with lower depression and negative sibling relationships were associated with greater perceived stigma. Exploratory analyses demonstrated interactions with gender, age, and route of transmission not explained by the proposed models, which suggests that further research is needed to understand their impact. Future research endeavors should examine the efficacy of intervention programs in individual and group settings to determine if the predicted benefit of both personal and social resources are compounding factors in the psychosocial well-being for youth living with HIV.

Psychological Flexibility and Eating Disorder Spectrum Problems

Wendell, Johanna 11 August 2011 (has links)
Problematic levels of eating disorder (ED) spectrum problems are becoming increasingly pervasive on college campuses, especially among female college students. Research suggests that ED cognitions and a lack of body image acceptance are linked to diminished psychological flexibility (PF), which is linked to ED and other negative health symptoms. Two hundred thirty-six undergraduates completed an online survey, and mediation analyses were conducted. PF fully mediated the relation between ED cognitions and non-specific psychiatric symptoms and partially mediated the link between ED cognitions and ED symptoms. PF also partially mediated the link between body image acceptance and non-specific psychiatric symptoms, but not the relation between body image acceptance and ED symptoms. Findings suggest that clinical symptoms and one’s coping style are both important factors to take into consideration in case conceptualization and treatment, and suggest that therapies such as ACT that target PF may be beneficial in treating ED spectrum problems.

Chinese Consumer Attitudes towards the Electric Vehicle

Ivan, Catalin, Penev, Alexander January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study is to find coherence between the theory of consumers‟ attitudes and the challenge of product acceptance. The relationship between consumer attitudes and product acceptance will be explored using the example of the Electric Vehicle (EV), an innovative and much debated product, in China. This study will analyze the attitudes of the Chinese consumers toward the EV and how these attitudes might affect the acceptance of this particular product. The reason China was chosen as the target market was because that country seems to be a non-researched area. 1 This study will shed some light on the mentioned concepts and offer findings from the Asian continent. These findings will be crucially important for the academic world, as they will be a solid base for future research. More importantly, this research can be used by marketers for their strategies in regards to EV sales in China.

Vem är normal?

Bäccman, Malin January 2006 (has links)
My project is about attitudes towards disabled people, about our fear for those who are different, about acceptance, ideals and normality. My inspiration has been prosthesis, and mostly people that are born without limbs. Through my research I have come across a lot of questions. Such as, why is a prosthesis so important and for whom? Why is it so important to be normal? What is normal and for who? People that are born different se upon themselves as normal, until they realize that others don’t. Many of them want to learn how to deal with life without prosthesis. And therefore they reject these. Sometimes the prosthesis is aids that are highly necessary. But they are also a way to blend in. When someone get severely ill or are born with a defect the society want to rehabilitate this person at any price. The goal is not to make the disability to something that you accept but something you should cure. This is of course necessary in some cases and I believe that we do this with the best of intentions. But sometimes we do this because we don’t believe in being different and the strive to be the “ideal-human being” is an obsession for us. The “ideal- human being” that nobody ever can be and especially not those with a disability. What is normal has change from different epochs and are different in different cultures. We learn what is normal and not normal, what are acceptable and about values so we can survive in our society. It is a social construction and it is safe. This safety can be a problem when it comes to be able to understand and accept that there are people that look, think and acts in a different way. It can be a seed for prejudices.During this project I realized that this is not only about visible disability. It is about hidden disability and that concern all of us.I believe that we all have some kind of disability. It is a matter of definition. We have to learn how to live with, accept and appreciate what is ugly, odd, unpleasant and unique. It is about values and to reassess.

Självhjälp med e-poststöd vid full och partiell anorexia nervosa : preliminära resultat från en randomiserad kontrollerad studie

Cernvall, Martin January 2007 (has links)

Acceptance of a Remote Desktop Access System to Increase Workspace Awareness

Williams, Jennifer January 2000 (has links)
Awareness systems are being designed and implemented to improve employee connections. This study examines the variables that affect the acceptance of an awareness system. The awareness system that was used for this research was a remote desktop access system. The independent variables investigated were the degree of detail that can be viewed on a desktop, whether the users can control who can access their desktops, whether the users can control when others have access to their desktops, the equality of access to others' desktops, and task-technology fit. In determining the effect of the independent variables on acceptance, the dependent variable, the mediating variables of privacy and fairness were taken into account. There was a preliminary survey conducted to determine appropriate situations to be used in the scenario descriptions for the survey for the main study. The methodology of policy-capturing surveys was utilized to conduct the survey for the main study in order to investigate the model developed in this study. The policy-capturing survey was pre-tested on University of Waterloo students. The main study was conducted in two different organizations, the subjects for the first study were employees from the Information Systems and Technology Department at the University of Waterloo and the subjects for the second study were employees from Ciber Incorporated. Results indicate that perceptions of privacy and perceptions of fairness have significant effects on acceptance. Also, perceptions of privacy and fairness are related to details in the design of the remote desktop access system. This research may be a contribution to this field since little research has been conducted in this area and implications can be drawn for future research on acceptance of awareness systems.
