Electron Transport Properties and Accessible Information in Nanoscale Conductors by Microcanonical Approach

Ercan, Ilke 01 January 2008 (has links) (PDF)
In this work, we expand the scope of the present implications of the tight-binding microcanonical picture of electron transport, which is proposed by Di Ventra and co-workers as an alternative to the Landauer’s static scattering approach. We investigate the structure dependence of current flow in electrode-conductor-electrode systems and calculate the local occupation functions and time-dependent conductor current for various conductor lengths and electrode configurations. We also explore fundamental physical limits to the encoding of information in the nanoscale conductor by application of electrode bias in a model system. Using the microcanonical description of a nanoconductor, composed of linear chain of atoms, bridging two electrodes, we obtain upper bounds on the accessible information in the conductor as a function of electrode bias, when the current flow is governed by the conductance quantum.

Gestion agile de processus métier : proposition d'une approche tirée par les compétences / Agile Business Process Management : Proposal for a competency-based approach

Triaa, Wafa 21 September 2018 (has links)
In the modern economy, creating agile business processes is one of the conditions to obtain/ maintain competitive advantage on the market. Efficient organizations need to ensure that their business processes are flexible so that these processes can easily accommodate changes in regulations and policies. Actually, the management of business processes is supported by the BPM (Business Process Management) approach. It addresses the management, transformation and improvement of organizational operations. Yet, actual BPM does not feature the means to have a continuous adaptation of their business processes and quick adjustment of their models and resources allocation to meet changing environmental conditions. In this thesis, we aim to support the agility of business processes to ensure a continuous adaptation to changes. The agility of business processes, combined with the agility of employees and that of information technology are prerequisites for achieving business agility. To support agility at IT level, we use the SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) approach. Indeed, the SOA can provide numerous benefits to the organization, enabling it to reduce complexity and increase flexibility through their reutilization and modularity features. Moreover, resources which are important assets in successful process’s implementation are widely supported with agile organization regarded as primordial factor for successful agility implementation. For this reason, we propose an approach that combines management of processes with the required skills to their execution and to better enhance the process flexibility we combine BPM with SOA in a social environment.

Quantum Information Theory is a research area that investigates the limits of information processing and transmission considering the laws of Quantum Mechanics. The translation of concepts from Classical Information Theory is a widely known approach to contribute to Quantum Information Theory. Thanks to that, the Quantum Zero-Error Information Theory was proposed. This theory investigates the use and the conditions for classical information exchange through noisy quantum channels without decoding errors. Despite the recent developments, it wasidentified that the knowledge about its potentialities, limitations and applications is still incipient. In the attempt to minimize this problem, this thesis presents two new concepts related to the Quantum Zero-Error Information Theory: (i) the quantum zero-error secrecy capacity; and the (ii) zero-error quantum accessible information. Regarding the first contribution, there is the establishment of the required conditions to send information through quantum channels without decoding errors and with perfect secrecy. This proposal identifies a new capacity of quantum channels, enlightens its relation with Graph Theory, and shows the situations where this capacity has single-letter characterization. Regarding the second contribution, there is the proposal of a quantum information measurement which quantifies the error-free decoding ability of a quantum source. Obtaining such measurement is a problem equivalent to the one of determining the zero-erro capacity of an equivalent classical channel and for which there is no counterpart in Classical Zero-Error Information Theory. The concepts proposed collaborate to Quantum Zero-Error Information Theory in theoretical and practical ways, since it is possible to implement both of them using current technology. Moreover, intersections with Cryptography, Graph Theory and Computer Science were identified. These concepts contribute straightforwardly to the resolution of a challenge of Quantum Information Theory which is the determination of the limits for the tasks of information processing that can be accomplished considering the use of Quantum Mechanics.
