"Mer bio än bibliotek" : Klassifikation och medieuppställning i det senmoderna samhället / "More Cinema than Library" : Classification and Media Presentation in the Late Modern Society

This case study examines the new media presentation system in Alby public library. The aim is to explore if the contemporary Zeitgeist, wich according to the sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, could be described as liquid modernity, has affected how the system was formed. The purpose is to find out how that would affect users and staff of public libaries of the contemporary. Interviews were conducted with the library staff, and plans and documents concerning the media presentation system was examined. The empirical part of this thesis starts with a study of the process that resulted in the new presentation system while the second part examines the system as such. I discovered that both the media presentation system, and the process which preceded it, contained aspects that could be traced to liquid modernity. However, I also found lingering signs of solid modernity, wich is the term Bauman uses to denote the modern era. The media presentation system could thus be described as a combination of solid and liquid modernity. I argued that the new media arrangment is a compromise with several disadvantages for both users and the library staff. The interplay between solid and liquid modernity in the contemporary public library results in a divergent situation for users and staff. On the one hand, it gives more freedom to use the library according to their own ideas. However, old structures, such as classification systems, sets limits for this development.

Ce travail doctoral a pour enjeu théorique d'étudier la valeur acquise par les formes intimes de résistance dans les films polonais produits entre 1968 et 1989, à l’appui d’un panorama transversal d’œuvres connues ou inconnues. Si, comme l’écrit le philosophe polonais Leszek Kołakowski en 1977, « les liens familiaux, affectifs et sexuels résistent obstinément à l’emprise du pouvoir », comment le cinéma polonais a-t-il montré des corps qui aiment, pensent et rêvent malgré tout, figurant par leur présence à l’écran un rapport de force violent entretenu par la société civile avec l’État ? Déplaçant le concept de « biopolitique » (Michel Foucault) dans le contexte de la Pologne populaire, il s’agit de comprendre comment émerge une esthétique du désarroi visant à approfondir l’exploration poétique des gestes, des états (psycho)somatiques, des réactions corporelles et des sexualités. L’enjeu esthétique central cache un sous-enjeu mémoriel propre à l’Europe centrale et balkanique : qu’est-ce qu’à rebours les corps filmés font-ils à la mémoire du communisme ? Constituant le défi théorique de cette thèse, ce renversement que nous proposons de qualifier de mémoire bio-cinématographique, contribuera à éclairer la relation complexe induite par l’esthétique cinématographique avec l’altérité. / The theoretical challenge of this PhD consists on studying the value acquired by the intimate forms of resistance in Polish films produced between 1968 and 1989 in support of a transversal panorama of known or unknown filmic works. If, as the Polish philosopher Leszek Kołakowski wrote in 1977, “family, affective and sexual relations stubbornly resist the grip of communist power”, how did Polish cinema show bodies that loved, thought and dreamt despite everything, pointing, through their presence on-screen, to a power relationship that confronted civil society with the communist state? Extrapolating the concept of “biopolitics” (M. Foucault) to the context of Communist Poland, our study aims to understand how an aesthetic of disarray emerged in order to delve deeper into the poetic depiction of gestures, (psycho)somatic states, bodily reactions and sexualities. This multi-layered aesthetic issue conceals a crucial subtopic concerning memory which is specific to Central and Balkan Europe: what impact do filmed bodies have on the memory of communism? Discussing these themes, comprised in what we propose to designate as a bio-cinematic memory, seems to be relevant to shed some light on the complex experiences offered by Polish cinema towards otherness.

Para tanto, prioriza-se o período que vai do início de sua carreira como romancista até a realização de seu primeiro filme, Hitler IIIº Mundo (1968), considerado aqui peça central na realização desta poética. / This work accompanies the artistic trajectory of the writer, playwright and filmmaker José Agrippino de Paula from the launch of his first novel, Lugar Público, in 1965, to some of his experiences with films super-8 already in the 1970\'s. As a fundamental axis, it reports the genesis and the construction of a poetical proposal entitled by the artist himself as arte-soma. It focus the period of the beggining of his career as a novelist until the completion of his first film, Hitler IIIº Mundo (1968), considered here the central piece on the realization of this poetics.

<p><i>Offentligt rum och vardagens politik</i> handlar om hur 1990- talets sociala förändring, med en rörelse från ett samhälle integrerat av arbetsetiken mot ett samhälle organiserat utifrån konsumtionsestetiken, förändrar demokratins villkor i och för det offentliga rummet. Det mer preciserade syftet är att undersöka vilka konsekvenser den sociala förändringen får för utövandet av vardagens politik i det offentliga rummet.
