A massa específica real possui valor igual a 0,834g/cm³. O bulbo é um esferóide oblato com 90,8% de esferificidade / Abstract: It was developed a research to determinate some physical and chemical characteristics of Hippeastrum hybridus (Apple Blossom variety) during storage, the experimental tests were conducted on the UNICAMP lab. The experiment tests were carried out in august, 2008 because of the harvest season of the bulbs. After the harvest part of the material were impacted and the whole material were separated in portions and then received the curing treatment with hot air at 30ºC for twenty four hours making the bulbs lose about 15% of water. After curing treatment the material were divided on "impacted" and "non impacted" both portions were stored for 3 months on 13ºC, one portion didn't receive the cold treatment. After that, some physical and chemical analyses were conducted, a visual analysis was made as well, and the analyses started 10 days after the product was impacted. The following parameters were evaluated: moisture content, soluble solids (ºBRIX), weight, circumference and general appearance. The statistical analysis results showed that the impact did not affect the bulbs soluble solids but the cold chain affects them. In matters of volume the bulbs showed medium volume equal to 495cm³, the variation about 0, 028%, the apparent volume 95,625 kg , specific mass apparent 0, 617cm³ and the interstitial volume equal to 174cm³, the specific real mass it's equal to 0,834g/cm³, porosity it's equal to 27%. The bulb is an oblate spheroid with 90, 8% of sphericity / Mestrado / Tecnologia Pós-Colheita / Mestre em Engenharia Agrícola

New strategies of agribusiness financing: an analysis about the viability of emission of CDCA by the cooperatives

Juliana Vilela Prado de Souza 12 March 2007 (has links)
ACRC - Agribusiness Credit Rights Certificate and other four financing titles were institutionalized on December 31, 2004, by the federal government. Those titles aim at collecting resources from the financial market to supply part of the growing demand for ways of agricultural financing. ACRC can be emitted by agribusiness companies, including agricultural cooperatives and it should present as a base credit rights. So, the objective of this study was to analyze the viability of ACRC as an instrument of agricultural cooperatives capitalization. For this analysis, it was sought to identify the operational, transactional and financial costs of the operations. In order to achieve the objective, the study based on two data sources: the operations already accomplished with the titles and the capital structure of agricultural cooperatives, as well as the credit operations accomplished by those organizations. The companies that emitted ACRC in the national and international financial market incurred in transaction and operation costs. It was verified that in the analyzed organizations, with high level of short term indebtedness with medium cost of high capital, could emit ACRC at quite attractive interest rates, on the other hand, those organizations incurred in high operation and transaction costs. The analysis of credit operations of the cooperatives shows that those organizations present a larger need of contribution of short term capital in the intercrop period. Within this period, the cooperative decapitalizes because it addresses great part of its resources to the purchase of inputs which will be transferred to the cooperate members in the credit operations. ACRC would be, then, a way of working capital reception in the intercrop period. On the other hand, ACRC would be a good option to raise the availability of resources for the purchase of inputs in the credit operations in cooperatives that don\'t comply with all demand from the cooperate members. Thus, ACRC would comply with a great part of the need of resources for costing credit of the rural producers through cooperatives. It was concluded that, for the emission of ACRC by agricultural cooperatives, this title can be emitted at much lower interest rates than those verified for working capital loans in financial institutions. This title fits into the needs of the emitting organization according to the financial structure and of risk of this organization and it can still be emitted in the international financial market where the availability of resources is larger.

Transforming mature industries into growth industries: the case of US peanuts

Foko, Emmanuel January 1900 (has links)
Master of Agribusiness / Department of Agricultural Economics / Vincent R. Amanor-Boadu / For more than a decade, the consumption of peanuts as food has been stagnant. This situation has been attributed to several factors. This study seeks to identify and understand some of the factors that have hindered growth in this industry and attempts to present recommendations that will be useful in transforming the peanut industry from stability to growth. We determined that in addition to peanut prices, consumers' income and young children's share of the total population, substitute snack foods such as potatoes chips and popcorn influenced peanut consumption. We also discovered that consumer perception about peanut's fat content and the increasing concern about peanut allergies affected their consumption behavior. The research used data drawn from US Census Bureau, Department of Labor Statistics, National Agricultural Statistics Services, and various industry publications. We suggest that changing the consumption trend lines in the peanut industry can be achieved through effective innovation and focused marketing of the product's health and convenience benefits.

[en] COMPARASION BETWEEN LAND USE AND LAND COVER DATA FROM TERRACLASS AND THE AGRICULTURAL CENSUS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF LÁBREA - AM / [pt] COMPARAÇÃO ENTRE OS DADOS DE USO E COBERTURA DO SOLO DO TERRACLASS E O CENSO AGROPECUÁRIO NO MUNICÍPIO DE LÁBREA - AM

PRISCILA RIBEIRO DE CARVALHO DE MEDEIROS 06 March 2020 (has links)
[en] This work proposes comparing data provided by 2004 s TerraClass and 2006 s Agribusiness Census, analyzing the validity of using one absent the other to comprehend the land cover in relation to said business within the studied area. The areas of the classes related to agribusiness were compared through the land cover reported in each classification. This analysis took place in a GIS environment with the use of Landsat/TM 5 to aid in the visual qualitative comparison of the data. The region of interest was the municipality of the Labrea district in the southern region of the Amazonas state. Sixteen census sector that showed agribusiness information were chose for the comparison of the percentages of area attributed to that business type. The variation of such areas was noteworthy and it was deemed that one should not use the two sources compared interchangeably as the information does not match. Moreover, some classes of the TerraClass classification stood out and regarded as uncertain – such as generic deflorestation and not forest – as, knowing the regions historical occupation and recent expansion of agribusiness, one would suspect that those are indeed related to the agents studied in this work.

Measuring brand loyalty of pharmaceutical livestock products among commercial farmers / Annette Neethling

Neethling, Annette January 2014 (has links)
In this study brand loyalty of pharmaceutical livestock products among commercial farmers was measured. The purpose of the study was to assist agribusinesses to identify the dominant determinant when commercial farmers purchase pharmaceutical livestock products from them. The study analysed two marketing mix elements price and product (specifically brand name) in farmer buying behaviour. A structured questionnaire was used to employ an empirical study in a quantitative style to determine the commercial farmers‟ perceptions and buying behaviour when they buy pharmaceutical livestock products. For agribusinesses the study makes it clear where to focus resources and energy in today‟s dynamic, uncertain and competitive environment that agribusinesses operate in, specifically in the North West Province of South Africa. The literature study addressed the brand loyalty constructs and their application in the agricultural market. Resultantly the contribution to the body of knowledge pertains to brand loyalty‟s influence in the marketing strategy (price and brand name). The study also explored opportunities for the successful distribution of pharmaceutical livestock products through agribusinesses. Management of agribusinesses will have to adopt a market-oriented strategy that will assist agribusinesses on various dimensions of performance and will have a significant positive effect on return on assets, sales growth and sustainability. The inputs and assistance of the suppliers and marketers are of utmost importance and will add value to the execution of agribusinesses‟ marketing strategy. / MBA, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2015

Determining the Value of Birthrank and Parent Age in Thoroughbred Racehorses

Cui, Xiurui 01 January 2016 (has links)
Thoroughbred racing is referred to as “the sport of Kings”, because historically it was a leisure activity of the upper-class. Thoroughbred breeding on the other hand has transformed from a hobby of the upper-class to a worldwide agricultural industry. With the deep involvement of the royal and rich in the Thoroughbred industry, the auction prices of horses are raised significantly at the top end of the market. Research in the biological sciences suggests there exits correlations between dam age, foal birthrank, and the racing performance of Thoroughbred horses. This study first investigates how the market values these biological factors and whether they are correlated with racehorses’ career earnings. We further test the impact of sire age as there is limited literature related to the subject. By using a Hedonic pricing model, results show that Thoroughbred buyers at Keeneland September Sale are willing to pay more for the yearlings at 1st, 2nd, and 3rd birthranks, yearlings out of younger mares age from 4 to 10, and yearlings by experienced sires age from 12 to 18. Results from multivariate regressions suggest negative correlations between foal birthrank, parent age and career earnings.

Challenges Facing Food Processing MSEs in Tanzania : A Qualitative Case Study of the Sunflower Oil Industry in Babati, Manyara

Ekblom, Mikaela January 2016 (has links)
Food processing micro- and small-scale enterprises (MSEs) play an important role in the national economic development of Tanzania. Though many of them have great growth potential, they face a number of constraints hindering further development, and large amounts of cooking oil are imported each year. The aim of thesis has therefore been to identify and analyse the different factors affecting these MSEs in order to find out which the major growth challenges are. The case study is mainly based on individual semi-structured interviews with sunflower oil processors and farmers in Babati districts, conducted in February and March 2016, and earlier research and studies on the topic of MSE growth make up the theoretical framework used for analysis of the data. The findings show that there are indeed numerous challenges facing these processors, and the major constraint was found to be lack of capital; an issue causing or worsening a majority of the other challenges at hand. Other problems are related to raw material, equipment & electricity for processing, regulations, market accessibility, and competition. These obstacles need to be overcome in order to enable the industry's expansion within and outside of Tanzania, and further research is recommended.

The Dialectics of Engaging the BOP through Microfranchising: Evidence from a Mexican Agribusiness

Hernandez Cazares, Rafael 08 July 2016 (has links)
Microfranchising is emerging as a potentially powerful strategy for reaching the enormous markets at the base of the pyramid (BOP). Microfranchising also represents an effective and sustainable way to contribute to poverty alleviation and economic growth. However, we know little about how organizations maneuver contradictory forces as they use this innovative business model to engage the BOP. To address this gap, I offer a longitudinal case study of an emerging microfranchise effort by a successful Mexican agribusiness—one whose ambitions to continue growing were challenged by multinational agrochemicals suppliers. As this project shows, companies and BOP markets can realize mutual benefits from a value co-creation strategy. Specifically, I adopted a dialectical approach to analyze the tensions and competing forces that arose as business managers and local BOP distributors and producers collaborated in this emerging microfranchising venture. As a result, the research offers three contributions. First, it provides a detailed empirical account of how contradictory forces shaped the Mexican agricultural firm’s implementation of microfranchising to engage with BOP farmers. Second, it presents a conceptual synthesis that describes the major contradictory forces a company faces as it implements microfranchising as part of its BOP strategy. Finally, it offers lessons for how business managers can maneuver contradictory forces to co-create value with the BOP through microfranchising.
