CORONAE, STEPHANAI E DIADEMATA. MANUFATTI PER IL CAPO E SIMBOLI DEL POTERE FEMMINILE (DA LIVIA A ELIA ARIADNE)

GROSSI, FEDERICA 12 June 2018 (has links)
Coronae, stephanai and diademata are the clearest feautures in Roman female portraiture and they emerge not only as jewels, but also as a way to convey information. Aim of this work is to demonstrate how these artifacts are substantial clues to understand roles and positions of the female part of Roman Imperial families, since they are connected to the title of Augusta and to the dynastic legitimacy, thanks to female role as mothers of emperors. A catalogue of portraits from statuary, glyptic and numismatic leads to a tipology of these objects and to their analysis regarding single persons, dynasties and backgrounds. The study goes from Livia to Aelia Ariadne.

Conception and optimization of supercritical CO2 Brayton cycles for coal-fired power plant application / Conception et optimisation du cycle de Brayton au CO2 supercritique dans l’application des centrales à charbon

Zhao, Qiao 15 May 2018 (has links)
Nowadays, both the attention and the emphasis are directed to reliable alternatives, i.e., enhancing the energy conversion systems. The supercritical CO2 (SC-CO2) Brayton cycle has recently emerged as a promising solution for high efficiency power production in nuclear, fossil-thermal and solar-thermal applications. Currently, studies on such a thermodynamic power cycle are directed towards the demonstration of its reliability and viability before the possible building of an industrial-scale unit. The objectives of this PhD can be divided in two main parts: • A rigorous selection procedure of an equation of state (EoS) for SC-CO2 which permits to assess influences of thermodynamic model on the performance and design of a SC-CO2 Brayton cycle. • A framework of optimization-based synthesis of energy systems which enables optimizing both system structure and the process parameters. The performed investigations demonstrate that the Span-Wagner EoS is recommended for evaluating the performances of a SC-CO2 Brayton cycle in order to avoid inaccurate predictions in terms of equipment sizing and optimization. By combining a commercial process simulator and an evolutionary algorithm (MIDACO), this dissertation has identified a global feasible optimum design –or at least competitive solutions– for a given process superstructure under different industrial constraints. The carried out optimization firstly base on cycle energy aspects, but the decision making for practical systems necessitates techno-economic optimizations. The establishment of associated techno-economic cost functions in the last part of this dissertation enables to assess the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE). The carried out multi-objective optimization reflects the trade-off between economic and energy criteria, but also reveal the potential of this technology in economic performance.

Influência da comunidade microbiana do solo no estabelecimento de sauveiros iniciais de Atta sexdens rubropilosa Forel, 1908 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) / Influence of soil microbial community on the establishment of ant nests of Atta sexdens rubropilosa Forel, 1908 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

Ohana Daroszewski Rodrigues 18 January 2008 (has links)
The objective of the present study was to compare the establishment of new ant nests in two sugarcane growing areas with different soil types (sandy clay and clay) and to verify the influence of chemical and microbiological soil factors on nest establishment. In order to determine nest establishment, initial ant nests were marked and accompanied with other activities immediately after nuptial flight. Evaluations for verification of nest establishment were made weekly after 40 days for the period of 120 days. In laboratory experiment, mated queens collected from the two areas with different soils were maintained in plastic pots containing soil from respective areas at 25 ± 2ºC and 70% RH. To verify activities of the ants, a method similar to the one used to the field study was adopted. Dead ants were discarded while dead queens were used for isolation of associated microorganisms to determine the cause of mortality. The analysis of chemical and microbiological factors of the soil determined macro and micro-nutrients including carbon biomass, the most probable number of fungi, bacteria and counting of the colony forming units of the actinomycetes. The establishment of new ant nests occurred significantly more in the sandy clay soil than clay soil in laboratory. In the areas of sandy clay and clay soil the establishments were 47.8 and 26.7%, respectively. In the field was not observed difference in the establishment of new ant nest in both areas. The carbon biomass and most probable number of bacteria were significantly higher in the sandy clay soil when compared with clay soil area. Differently from laboratory results, the field studies indicated that the establishment of new ant nests of A. sexdens rubropilosa was not only based on the soil microrganism.

Re Filippo V, i Macedoni e le leghe greche (229-217 a.C.) / KING PHILIP V. THE MACEDONIANS AND THE GREEK LAEGUES (229-217 B.C.)

D'AGOSTINI, MONICA 01 March 2018 (has links)
Although Philip V is one of the best epigraphically and literarily attested ancient monarchs, the structure, performance, and the rationale of his kingship still elude modern scholarship, which has hitherto preferred to focus on the coeval Roman expansion in the Mediterranean. The following is the first political analysis of the ancient Macedonian basileia and its relation with the Greek Leagues at the end of the 3rd century BC. The research connects the first 12 years of rule of Philip V (229-217 BC.) to the Hellenistic political and institutional horizon, and distinguishes five chronological stages of Philip’s reign according to the political agency of the king: an early stage between Demetrios II’s death in 229 and 222, mainly concerned with Philip’s role during Antigonos Doson’s rule and the ascension to the throne; a second phase between 222 and 220 exploring the beginning of the war with the Aitolians; a third section devoted to the opening of a naval front in 219 and the successful Aitolian campaign. Part four investigates Philip’s 218 Peloponnesian engagement, while the last section expands on Philip’s 217 diplomatic and military agency and the peace agreements in Naupactos. Considering his dynastic ties, court politics, military innovations, diplomatic relations and administrative reforms before the Roman intervention in the East, the work attempts to provide a source-based first description and analysis of the mature Macedonian monarchy and its relation with the Greek world. It tries to establish the features of the Mediterranean kingship encountered by the Roman expansion, in the attempt to distinguish those attested in 3rd century Macedonia from those inferred from Alexander’s age evidence, and from the Roman biased propaganda.

Automatizace digitalizačního workflow NTK / Automatization of the digitization workflow of the National Library of Technology

Řihák, Jakub January 2013 (has links)
This diploma thesis is focused on the automatization of digitization workflow in the National Library of Technology, Prague, Czech Republic. This thesis examines possibilities of digitization processes automatization by means of scripts written in Perl programming language and Apache Ant build tool. The advantages and disadvantages of both solutions are analyzed as well as their suitability for automatization of digitization workflow. Based on the comparison of both solutions, the scripts in Perl programming language are selected as the most suitable solution for automatization of digitization workflow. The question whether Ant build tool could be used for the purpose of automatization of digitization workflow is also answered in this thesis. The Ant build tool could be used for the above-mentioned purpose. However, once the activities in the given process divert from the general scope of tasks provided by the Ant build tool, the complexity of the whole solution increases rapidly. This complexity is given by the necessity to use predefined tasks -- sets of functions which have to be combined to create a functional automatization script. Even though Ant is an extendable tool, it is necessary to understand the Java programming language in order to create a new Ant task successfully. On the other hand, the Perl programming language allows easier customization of the script for the purposes of automatization of digitization workflow. Also, the modularity of the Perl programming language makes it easier to create those scripts and modify, correct or develop them even further.

Estudos etológico e químico dos feromônios de trilha de marcação de território de Atta opaciceps Borgmeier, 1939 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) / Ethological and chemical studies of the pheromones of the territory marking track of Atta opaciceps Borgmeier, 1939 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

Campos, Rousseau da Silva 16 March 2012 (has links)
The leaf-cutting antsof the genus Atta and Acromyrmex belong to the order Hymenoptera, Formicidae family, Myrmicinae subfamily and Attini tribe are locatedin the Americas, occurring in tropical areas of Mexico andin Central and South America, are considered herbivorous and difficult to control when attacking crops and forests. The species Atta texana and Acromyrmex versicolor are the only representatives of these ants foundin North America. Several species of the genus Attaare found in Brazil. Understanding the behavior of leaf-cutting ants in their multiple division of laboris a necessary step to establish living with them, and develop or adapt new methods of control, when these reach the economic injury level. There fore, this study sought to clarify the behavior of Atta opaciceps regarding the specificity of behaviors of territory marking and trail, seeing how the different castes respond to different intra and interspecific extracts (Acromyrmex subterraneus subterraneus, A. cephalotes, A. sexdens sexdens and A. sexdens rubropilosa) on laboratory conditions. It also sought to identify the chemical constituents present in the foragers venom gland extracts of A.opaciceps, seeking to know what the compounds responsible fore liciting the trail behavior of foragers of this species.

Kolem nekolem: Cykloaktivismus optikou teorie sítí-aktérů / To bike or not to bike: Cycloactivism in a perspective of actor-network theory

Fendrychová, Kristýna January 2015 (has links)
In this diploma thesis I focus on the formation of urban cycling including heterogeneous participating actors - people, discourses, technologies, infrastructures and other materialities. I examine cyclists' relationships with their environment and describe asymmetries connected with the dominant status of automobilism in urban environment, and strategies for contesting this situation. I also focus on cyclo-activist discourse which plays an important role in the empowerment of cyclists in urban traffic. Mobilizing arguments of critical theory and the "right for the city" concept cyclo-advoacy strives to include as many citizens as possible in debate about public space and in this way support pro-cycling developments. From the perspective of actor-network theory (ANT) this strategy has limits due to its operation with stabilized social science categories and I argue that ANT could contribute a more nuanced arguments to cyclo-advocacy with detailed description of connections between cyclists and urban environment, focus on embodiment and emotions and highlighting the role of materialities. It could thereby provide a stronger argument for furthering the pro-cycling development. Key words: urban cycling, automobilism, actor-network theory (ANT), cycloadvocacy, critical theory, materiality

Kolo-nizace: symetrická etnografie rozvojového projektu Kola pro Afriku / Bicy-colonization: A symmetrical ethnography of the development project Kola pro Afriku (Czech Bikes for Gambian Schools)

Werner, Jan January 2016 (has links)
This study is a symmetrical ethnography of the Czech development project Kola pro Afriku (Czech Bikes for Gambian Schools), which involves the collection, repairs, modification and shipment of old Czech bicycles to The Gambia. Once there, they are distributed to partner schools and offered to communing pupils. In my research, I mainly focus on the pivotal technology of the project, bicycles, and their performances. Drawing on classic ethnographies of development and (most importantly) on studies based on the actor-network theory (ANT), I gradually explore the bike collection process, their modifications and repairs, their shipment to The Gambia and their local operations. When doing so, I focus on the social topology of the bicycles and its transformations in the timespace. In this regard, the bicycles gradually appear as junk (i.e. a dysfunctional relict of stabilized networks), as a fluid collectivity and as individually fluid. Thereby, this study shows that technology transfers may lead not only to changes in the set of relations, of which the given object consists, but in the very modes, in which those relations arise. It is precisely these topological transformations that significantly contribute to the functioning of the project Kola pro Afriku. Key words: development cooperation,...

Bäckadräkten : Ty själen har inget kön

Humble, Gunilla January 2024 (has links)
This essay presents how a newly created non-binary folk costume named Bäckadräkten will  change and challenge traditions regarding Swedish folk costumes from the eighteenth century.  Bäckadräktens background as a tool to invent a new type of non-binary folk costume is presented. Different parts of Bäckadräktens clothing as a non-binary dress is compared to traditional folk costumes regarding male and female dressing as a mean of status concerning marriage and age.  Traditionally folk costumes usually derive from a specific region in contrast to Bäckadräkten with its background from the queer or non-binary community. Bäckadräkten can be used in different ways, colours and materials. It can be seen as a new type of folk costume for everyone who wants one and can be used in full scale or just as a part combined with other types of dresses. The founder of Bäckadräkten is the artist Fredy Clue and they want it to be a folk costume for everyone, not only non-binary or queer.       The analysis regarding Bäckadräkten is made by using ANT Action Network Theory and Queer Theory and focus on non-binary. The view of Bäckadräkten as a rhizome with a big and growing connected network is discussed. Seven people has been interviewed about their view regarding both folk costumes and Bäckadräkten.
