UM PATRIMÔNIO ADORMECIDO : A CULTURA MATERIAL ARQUEOLÓGICA PRÉCOLONIAL NOS LUGARES DE MEMÓRIA DO VALE DO TAQUARI/RS / AN ASLEEP HERITAGE: PRECOLONIAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MATERIAL CULTURE IN THE PLACES OF REMEMBRANCE OF VALE DO TAQUARI/RS

Schneider, Patrícia 17 December 2010 (has links)
This study handles over the appreciation of the precolonial archaeological heritage, placed in institutions of preservation, guard and exposition of three towns in Vale do Taquari/RS region. The three selected towns are Arvorezinha, Lajeado e Taquari and the institutions are, respectively, the Museu Municipal de Arvorezinha; Museu Histórico Bruno Born; Casa Costa e Silva. The main purpose of the present research is to diagnose the space and the treatment dispensed to precolonial material culture in these places of remembrance and to verify if they receive a different treatment in relation to historical materials. The study was accomplished through data collection, based on field research method, with the filling out of a diagnosis form, previously elaborated. The result achieved suggests that, in the institutions researched, the archaeological materials are discredited, in opposition to the historical ones, and they aren't correctly contextualized, being observed as curious and eccentric objects, without any relation to the local community.

Tag 'em and bag 'em : Gallring av arkeologiskt material i museers samlingar / Tag ‘em and bag ‘em : deaccessioning and disposal of archaeological material in museum collections.

Lindström, Hanna January 2020 (has links)
Archaeologists excavate to find out more about our prehistory. The more artifacts we dig up and preserve the more the potential to extract knowledge about the past from them grows. But some people are starting to get worried how we are going to be able to keep all the things we excavate. The museums are already filled to the brim, but the stream of new objects does not stop.  We are, according to those people, in a curation crisis. This study aims to investigate how the laws and regulations of disposal of the archaeological artifacts in museums collections translate to practice. Through interviews and analyzing laws and guidelines I aim to study how those in charge of disposal navigate between the need of more archaeological material versus the need to make more room in the collections, and how the guidelines over disposal gets implemented in practice. The conclusions of this paper is that Swedish museums employees generally thinks that the guidelines are easy to work with, however they rarely dispose of archaeological artifacts, instead they rely on it being done in the field.

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 2037492 bytes, checksum: 124075a38989bfa89e1613e63b631712 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-03-30 / The present paper aims to report a study on the adjustment between archaelogical collections and the scientific production made by four archaeologists during the period from 2005 to 2014 by means of their Lattes Curricula Vitae and Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi museum documentation, which records and supports the menagement of its archaeological collections. Our objectives are: to underline the main components in both information sources; to evaluate the throughness of the available fields in museum documentation; to measure the quantity of archaelogical collections fostered by selected themes visible in both sources; and to exam the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi museum documentation chronology. The methodology used in this paper is based on a study characterized as a bibliographic, exploratory and documentalresearch. In addition, we used qualitative and quantitative approaches since we intend to demonstrate the relationship between the two proposedsources of information. From the research findings, we infer that these two sources of information are presented as a relevant way to help in the development of the creation of the collections found at Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. Thus, it was found that these collections are interwoven in memorialístic aspect that permeate these patrimonies found the researchers studied.

The Manning cache : an examination of the McWhinney heavy stemmed point

Gullion, Chris S. January 2008 (has links)
This thesis will explore the significance of a cache of Late Archaic lithics found in Randolph County, Indiana by Bobby Manning. These points, thought to mostly be of the McWhinney Heavy Stemmed type are unique in that very few caches of these points have found been in such good condition in unmixed contexts. The McWhinney Heavy Stemmed point, as currently defined, is not well represented in the archaeological record. Point typology is important to archaeology because point types indicate the age and cultural affiliation of most surface sites. Point typologies, then, require accurate description of good samples from unmixed contexts. By presenting background data concerning the McWhinney Heavy Stemmed point and known morphological correlates this thesis aims to provide a better description of the point type. Also this data, coupled with the data from the Manning cache is used to produce results that determine the significance of the cache and determine if this isolated cache reflects a new variant in the McWhinney type or, if justified, a new type altogether. / Department of Anthropology
