Statistical Characterization of Fluvial-Deltaic Reservoirs with Archetypes

Watkins, Laura L. 01 May 1998 (has links)
Optimizing the extraction of oil and other hydrocarbon products from existing sites is important. One source of hydrocarbon products is reservoirs found within sedimentary rock formations. Understanding fluid behavior within such formations can be quite useful in optimizing oil production. Fluid behavior within sedimentary formations is influenced by the bedform structure and permeabilities within the formation. Thus, we are concerned with developing a physically and statistically valid method of characterizing sedimentary rock formations. The use of archetypal analysis to generate synthetic bedforms, as well as the use of Kriging to assign permeabilities within a bedform, was explored. With these tools, a characterization of a sedimentary rock formation can be created and fluid flow through the charactrerization examined. It appears that the bedform structure within a realization has a greater influence on fluid flow than any permeability structure created by utilizing Kriging.

"¡Cáncer es una mujer pegada como una sanguijuela sesenta años succionándole el alma!" : Un examen de los rasgos misóginos en la novela El desbarrancadero de Fernando Vallejo

Carlsson, Anneli January 2014 (has links)
El desbarrancadero, published in 2001 by Colombian author Fernando Vallejo is foremost a moving story about brotherly love, but it is also a highly critical novel that lashes out on a number of phenomena such as the catholic church, the Pope and the very idea of religion. It also addresses the poverty of Colombia, its corrupt politicians, the drug trade, viral diseases and animal abuse to mention a few more subjects. This essay however, does not aim to explore any of the above mentioned matters but rather examine how women are portrayed in this novel. The objective of this investigation, based on feminist theories, is to establish the very clear presence of misogyny attitudes.

Art and Self Discovery The Call and Response of Making Art

Taylor, Cindy A 11 August 2015 (has links)
This arts-based research study grows out of the examination of a lifelong practice of art making I dub Call and Response. Gaining insight through the research and exploration of doodling, automatic drawing and other surrealist techniques and ideas about perception, I not only better understood the development of my creative processes and strengthened my artistic voice, but learned how these practices could be beneficial in teaching and learning the visual arts in the k-12 classroom.

Sémiotique et dynamique de l'interculturalité : Etude de la représentation de la femme au Japon de l'Ere Meiji à 1960 / Semiotics and the dynamics of interculturality : Analaysis of representation of women in Japan from Meiji Era to 1960

Chatenet, Ludovic 10 February 2017 (has links)
Our work is based on the hypothesis that there is something beyond culture that would act as intermediary between cultures. In other words there might be a common or universal level that allows them to share or integrate their different world-views. Our work aims to expose its relevance by questioning semiotics starting from the concept of culture. In that respect, it puts into perspective the theories of culture based on structuralism inheritance, such as Lotman’s semiosphere and Fontanille’s forms of living, in order to define a semiotics model capable of describing the dynamic of any cultural form. So as to make this problematic tangible, our work leans on the idea that any culture produces images of the world that embody their own space-time and collective imaginary. The Visual allows studying how cultures share their world-view and influence each other. A discussion of the transformation of identity (Jullien, Barthes) permits noticing that mediation is a natural principle of culture likely based on elementary mind forms (Lévi-Strauss, Jung). An analysis of adverts picturing beautiful women in Japan (Shiseido) show that cultural exchange’s dynamics follows an underpinning logic for integrating new designs from another culture. In fact, transformation process is far more significant than what hybridization of shapes suggests. It convokes the entire social environment it yet symbolizes and contributes to the reshaping of the collective identity.

Otcovství v románech Milana Kundery / The fatherhood in novels of Milan Kundera

Labudová, Zuzana January 2013 (has links)
This thesis discusses the concept of fatherhood in the novels of Milan Kundera. The first part of the analysis focuses on initiation rituals leadings to the construction of the masculine identity and the future quality fatherhood; this thesis discusses unwanted fatherhood, the phenomenon of the missing father and the ethical aspects of the (non)fatherhood and the theme of fatherhood as a coming to terms with the world. I concentrate on the basic models od fatherhood in Kundera's novels, which bear a resemblance to archetypes of father. But it is less a typical archetypes analysis than a interpretative analysis combined with a resisting reading. This thesis compares traditional concepts with concepts od modern (feminist) science and applies it to Kundera's characters.

"Would you buy it?" : "What triggers ethical consumption, based on personality archetypes"

Eliasson, Nicklas, Alftén, Jakob January 2016 (has links)
This study comprises what triggers ethical consumption, based on personality archetypes. It has been conducted through semi-structured interviews. The respondents were students at Linnaeus University in the ages of 20-27. The personality archetypes were mapped through a conceptual model, based on the foundations of a personality; ego or social, with tendencies of having freedom or order characteristics. The respondent’s ethical behaviour was mapped in a conceptual model, then analysed in accordance with existing personalities. The results show differences in what triggers consumers’ behaviour in ethical consumption and that the individual’s personality determines to what extent.

Sémiotická analýza brandu Staropramen a jeho přičlenění k marketingovému archetypu / Semiotic analysis of a Staropramen brand and his affiliations with marketing archetype

Pajerová, Hedvika January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is the visual identity of the brand Staropramen analysis based on the theory of archetypes applied in marketing science. The theoretical part is focused on the archetypal theories of Jung. He marked twelve archetypes in his work, which include four main categories based on the desire they want to satisfy. The yearning for paradise: The Innocent, The Explorer and The Sage, archetypes that want to leave a thumbprint on the world: The Hero, The Outlaw and The Magician, a group that knows no man or no women is an island: The Regular Guy / Gal also known as The Everyman, The Lover and The Jester, group desiring to provide structure to the world: The Caregiver, The Creator and The Ruler. I focused on the differences between the various archetypes on one desire too, but also the on the theoretical basis of storytelling. I also wrote theoretical basiscs of semiotic analysis and summary of a research realized for my second thesis, focused on marketing communication of Staropramen. In the practical part I analyse the visual identity of the brand Staropramen, that I take apart to single symbols. Their importance I found in sources in the field of heraldry, mythology, botany, psychology and etymology. On the basis of identified associations I do a comparative analysis of the theoretical basis for...

Les traces de mythes dans Le Petit Prince d'Antoine Saint-Exupery : Une analyse fondée sur la théorie du Carl Gustav Jung

Treija, Lauma January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this study is to analyse the patterns of ancient myths that can be found in the novel Le Petit Prince by Antoine Saint-Exupery. In order to understand the culture and human behavior we will draw parallels to ancient myths and through the discovered myths in the novel, we will use the help of Carl Gustav Jung’s theory about the human psyche. The main questions are the following :  What are the patterns of ancient myths in the novel Le Petit Prince ? Do these myths carry any messages that we, as readers, can learn from ? In the introduction, a theorical backround is given which defines the concept of myth and explains briefly Jung’s theory. Our analysis shows that although myths differ from one another they all have the same roots. By this means, all characters in myths are archetypes that, according to Jung, are the same through history and in every culture. By studying the archetypes in this novel, like the divine child, Anima/Animus, the Sages etc., we are able to understand the plot more clearly. We are also aware of patterns that seem to repeat themselves through the generations. Our conclusion is that humans adapt easily to their surroundings and eventually lose their self-awareness. Therefore Saint-Exupery sends readers the message that we have to wake ourselves up to truly live our lives. Also we discovered that numerous archetypes that are present in all of myths, give us clues to self-realization, thus myths are necessary for people of all ages.
