A Comparison of Tenth and Eleventh Grade Art Students with and without a Junior High Art Experience

Leinneweber, Margo 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine if there was any difference between beginning high school art students at Calhoun High School, Port Lavaca, Texas, who had had a junior high art experience and those who had no such experience in regard to their art information, art attitudes, and ability to produce quality art work. The Eisner Art Information and Art Attitude Inventories and three art performance tasks were administered to the population. Those with junior high art experience scored significantly higher on the art information inventory and art performance tasks than those without. The data support the positive effect of a junior high art experience on beginning high school art students.

Trajetórias de risco, treinamento e criação : experiências vividas nos espaços vertical e aéreo / Trajectories of risk, training and creation : experiencies in vertical and aerial spaces

Millás, Claudia Regina Garcia, 1985- 12 November 2014 (has links)
Orientador: Ana Cristina Colla / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Artes / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-26T17:11:06Z (GMT). Propõe-se que os espaços em questão possam servir como catalisadores do processo criativo, colocando o sujeito no campo de experiência, que gera conhecimento / Abstract: Discussing scenic creation based on vertical and aerial spaces is above all discussing a hybrid practice requiring a dialogue between several areas of knowledge, including dance, circus, theater and climbing. After starting with a case study, accomplished in collaboration with the Cia Suspensa of Minas Gerais, this research then moves on to explore those spaces in three different contexts: the aerial space, using a suspended chair built specifically for this research; the vertical space, using a climbing wall; and ground warm-up exercises with body training. This exploration gave rise to reflections, dialogues, and the elaboration of two scenic studies, "Ao Vestir Vertigens" and "De Olhos Fechados", performed in cultural events during 2013 and 2014. We then faced the challenge of putting our experiences into words so that we could share them with others; to achieve this, we enlisted the aid of writing partners and cartography techniques. Here, we discuss the practical risks, required training, and possibilities for scenic creation based on vertical and aerial spaces. We propose that such spaces can act as catalysts for the creative process, placing the subject in the field of experiment and thereby generating knowledge / Mestrado / Teatro, Dança e Performance / Mestra em Artes da Cena

Artistic Learning in an MFA Community

Jilka, Milan 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this phenomenographical case study is to explore the ways in which a group of MFA students conceive of their learning as they are enmeshed within an MFA community. The research follows along two guiding research questions: 1) What does artistic learning involve for graduate students in an MFA community? 2) How is one's artistic practice shaped by one's active participation in an MFA community? The findings of this study have been presented as lines of artistic learning and help to show the various conceptions that MFA students have of their learning as artists while in an MFA program of study. Ultimately, it is in better understanding one's lines of artistic learning that MFA students can be better supported in their journeying to become professional, practicing artists.

Arte e meio urbano. Elementos de formação da estética extramuros no Brasil / Art and urban space. Constituent elements of extramuros aesthetics in Brazil

Furegatti, Sylvia Helena 08 October 2007 (has links)
This research argues about the constituent aspects of the praxis and discursive forms in contemporary artistic action enrolled in opened and urban Brazilian space. Considering recent decades, post to 1960, projects, texts, works of art has been analyzed, as well as cultural and urban important contexts to reach the verification of the relationship among the actual circuit agents. The intention is to refine the aptness of the contemporary art object to the space studying these points: its specific urban elements; the new public senses due to this kind of work in our time and the mobility of its characters roles that, in this set, collaborate to the construction of these aesthetic and artistic boundaries. Beginning with ambient experiences by Hélio Oiticia, Artur Barrio, beside others, to get to multiple forms of public and urban art, caused by their encounter with the megalopolis, as presented by José Resende, Mônica Nador, Ricardo Basbaum, each chapter analyses the strategies that take Art to an Extramuros state.

Assessing the Impact of a Visual Arts Family-Focused Pre-Kindergarten Intervention

David, Gigi M. 01 January 2006 (has links)
This study examined the effect of a visual arts, family-focused school readiness intervention on the parental efficacy and level of family involvement of low-income families. A second, primary focus of the study was to test the potential of academically focused experiences in the visual arts to increase the basic concept development of young children. To increase accessibility, the intervention was conducted in a neighborhood library. The research design for this descriptive study included qualitative and quantitative components. Data collection consisted of a non-randomized one group pre-test/posttest design from students on a standardized instrument and from primary caregivers using self-report questionnaires. Other data collection sources included field notes documenting observations made during implementation collected by the investigator, parent home engagement data in the form of a weekly survey filled out by adult participants and weekly phone calls monitoring any issues or questions regarding the completion of take-home activities. The results of this relatively small sample using the visual arts to build basic concept knowledge indicate that, given a larger sample, this approach may prove to be a promising strategy to use with young children and their families. The average raw score gain on the student basic concept scale was 8 points at the end of the seven-week intervention. The parent surveys indicated that almost all books sent home were read each week and an average of three home learning activities per book were completed between sessions. The majority of parents commented at least once on the At-Home Surveys about increases in positive interaction with their children while engaged in the home learning activities. Enhancing the parent-child relationship begins with the sharing of positive experiences. Comments made by adult participants indicated that parents felt empowered to better support their child's learning by participating in this experience.
