Ficção e autobiografia: uma análise comparativa das narrativas de Thomas Bernhard / Fiction and autobiography: a comparative analysis of Thomas Bernhard\'s narratives

Patrícia Miranda Dávalos 28 January 2010 (has links)
This work deals with the comparison of the first autobiographical volume of the Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard, Die Ursache. Eine Andeutung (1975), with his novel Auslöschung. Ein Zerfall (1986), which has some characteristics of the autobiographical genre. The comparison intends to show how the same themes are configured in both cases and how the differences can be related to the different intentions and different moments of writing. Being noted as fiction allows the author more freedom to experiment formally and to intensify the attack he developed against his origins, while in the autobiography, although it also has a strong critical aspect, he puts his arguments in a restrained way, dealing with issues of verisimilitude and authenticity, which are typical for this genre. Furthermore, this text will try to analyse how the novel, written in the same context as the autobiography, completes it and functions like a kind of remark to the autobiographical work.

O dialeto trentino da colônia tirolesa de Piracicaba: aspectos fonéticos e lexicais / The trentinian dialect of the Tirolesa Colony of Piracicaba: phonetic and lexical aspects

Everton Altmayer Leopoldino 31 October 2014 (has links)
The two districts of Santana and Santa Olímpia in the city of Piracicaba, state of São Paulo, together constitute the Tyrolean Colony of Piracicaba, which preserves the Trentinian dialect (called tirolés in these areas) since the times of its foundation, between 1892 and 1893. This Trentinian dialect, still spoken by the oldest members of the community, was brought there by the founders of the Colony, immigrants from Romagnano, Sardagna, Cortesano, Vigo Meano and Albiano, small villages near the city of Trent (Trento in Italian or Trient in German) - which served as capital of the former Prince-Bishopric of Trent, in the Austrian circle of the Holy Roman Empire until 1810, then as cultural and administrative center of the Italian Tyrol (Welschtirol in German) during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, from 1864 to 1918, and finally as the capital of the Autonomous Province of Trent and of the Autonomous Region Trentino-South Tyrol, which belongs to Italy since 1919. The present work aims to analyze the phonetic and lexical aspects of the Trentinian dialect of Piracicaba in its two variants, each one inherent to one of the two neighborhoods which together form the Tyrolean Colony of Piracicaba, comparing some of its main characteristics with the present Trentinian European dialect from the Adige Valley, in Italy, and presenting the phonetic and lexical results of the language contact between the Trentinian dialect and the Brazilian Portuguese in the region of Piracicaba. We believe that these analyses will lead to a better understanding of the linguistic situation of the Tyrolean colonization, as well as a broader comprehension of the Trentinian immigration inside the so called Italian immigration in Brazil, thus demonstrating that aspects such as identity, memory and especially the linguistic diversity are of utmost importance in the social composition of Brazilians.

Impact of autonomous vehicles on urban mobility

Azmat, Muhammad 08 1900 (has links) (PDF)
The urban population is growing at an exponential rate throughout the world leading to the problems related to swift and speedy mobility or issues caused by convectional mobility options. This study illustrates and explores the new ways to transport people specially taking into account the self-driving cars concept and discusses the concept of mobility 4.0 (smart / intelligent mobility) and briefly highlights the technological aspects of autonomous vehicles, adaptation advantages and progress in laws and legislations of autonomous vehicle. The study is primarily qualitative and relies on the work of previous researcher, technical reports and blogs but the part of this study is quantitative where empirical data was collected from the experts in a conference held by BBG Austria. The result of the studies shows adaptation readiness of Austrian professional market and business prospects associated with autonomous vehicles Moreover, different business models are suggested, which could be adopted to incorporate the driverless vehicles in day-to-day life of an individual living in urban environment. The models basically suggest that the adaptation of the technology would help curbing transport externalities especially external cost associated to transportation of each individual; which includes congestion, accident, infrastructure costs and environmental costs which are incurred by least efficient conventional cars and would also help shrinking the diseases like premature mortality, aggravation of respiratory as well as cardiovascular disease and sleep disturbance which are the result of city level congestion and pollution. Managers' perceptions of organizational cultures in Austria

Bös, Bernhard 10 1900 (has links) (PDF)

Franz Grillparzer's dramatic heroines and women's emancipation in nineteenth-century Austria

McCarthy-Rechowicz, Matthew January 2016 (has links)
Recent decades have seen an increase in feminist critiques of the works of Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872), and a growing awareness that these deal with contemporary issues around the social roles of women. This study builds on exsiting feminist-themed examinations of Grillparzer's works to show more fully how they fit into the context of calls for women's rights in nineteenth-century Austria. New interpretations of Grillparzer's heroines are made possible by considering the full spectrum of the author's intellectual interests and examining his dramas through the lenses suggested by his reading. Des Meeres und der Liebe Wellen is seen in the context of the Enlightenment, and Sappho and Libussa are analysed with reference to social contract theory. Contemporary feminist approaches are combined with Schiller's thought on stadial history, and with Grillparzer's analysis of Shakespeare's Macbeth, to give new insight into Das goldene Vließ and Die Jüdin von Toledo respectively. Consideration of the lives and works of Grillparzer's female friends provides the context for my analysis, and helps define the original nature of this thesis. While several earlier studies have argued for the influence of Grillparzer's romantic interests on the construction of his heroines, sufficient attention has not been given to these heroines in the context of the intellectual women Grillparzer knew. While I do not argue that Grillparzer's heroines were influenced by the authors and other prominent women he knew, examination of the lives and works of Caroline Pichler, Betty Paoli, Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, Sophie Schröder and others shows that Grillparzer was on friendly terms with intellectual women throughout his career, and that all of these women were to some degree critical of the contemporary social situation of women.

Vývoj a současnost Rakouska a jeho postavení v EU / The Development and the Present Situation of Austria and its Position in the European Union

Kolčárková, Marie January 2008 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to characterize the development of Austria after World War Two, to chart its progressive integration into Europe and to evaluate its present position in the European Union. The first chapters of the thesis describe the economic and political development of Austria from 1945 to 2000; attention is paid to the gradual integration of Austria into the European Communities. Furthermore, the thesis concentrates on the development of Austria after 1995. It analyses the economic impact of its entry into the EU as well as its present position in the Union. It also discusses selected themes such as the first and second Austrian presidency of the EU, sanctions on Austria, the Austrian approach to the eastern enlargement of the EU and the Austrian citizens' view on the EU. It shortly addresses the contemporary relations of Austria and the Czech Republic.

Hospodářský cyklus z pohledu monetárních a úvěrových veličin / Business Cycle from The Viewpoint of Monetary and Credit Variables

Metrah, Samy January 2014 (has links)
The master's thesis critically analyses the works of John Maynard Keynes and Friedrich August von Hayek concering the explanation of business cycles based on monetary determinants. The analysis is primarily based on J. M. Keynes's Treatise on Money (1930) and Prices and Production (1935) author of which is F. A. Hayek. The thesis, on one hand, refutes the main explanation of the cause of business cycles of the Austrian business cycle theory and, on the other hand, it argues the imcompatibility of the main analytical tool of Treatise with the theory of innovation by J. A. Schumpeter.
