Inriktningen för det svenska försvaret är att uppnå ett flexibelt och rörligt insatsförsvar. Akut stress under krigsliknande situationer är något dagens officer kan komma att ställas inför, vilket ställer höga krav på officeren och de militära ledarskapsförmågorna. Med tanke på den nya inriktningen inom Försvarsmakten är det högst aktuellt att undersöka om det officeren lär sig under utbildning stämmer överens med verkligheten och om teorier kan anses som relevanta även under insats. Är teorier som lärs ut vid Försvarsmaktens ledarskapsutbildning tillämpbara i praktiken? Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka om teorier kring ledarskap under stress, som lärs ut inom Försvarsmakten, överensstämmer med officerens ledarskap vid internationella insatser. Genom en deduktiv logik genomförs en teoriprövande fallstudie på BA01, utifrån en kvalitativ metod och textanalys. Det utvalda fallet analyseras utifrån en svensk modell för ledarskap under akut stress. Slutsatserna för denna undersökning är: -          Vald teori fungerar i praktiken och är ytterst relevant för militärt ledarskap i internationella insatser. -          En stabil grund i det vardagliga ledarskapet, kopplat till ledaren och organisationen, gynnar beslutsfattande under akut stress. -          Det är viktigt att förstå vilka bakomliggande faktorer som kan påverka ledarskapet under akut stress och ämnet måste därför undersökas från flera perspektiv och ses som en del av ett större sammanhang. -          Ledarskap påverkas av förhållandet mellan chefen och dennes underställda, men även hur väl samarbetet fungerar inom organisationen såväl med likställda som högre chefer. Ledarskap bör därför analyseras utifrån olika nivåer. -          Ett situationsanpassat ledarskap, en förmåga att analysera vilket förhållningssätt är mest lämpligt vid tillfället, bör finnas hos varje ledare.

In the history of warfare there has been numerous attempts of creating definitions and theories to explain the results and the used methods. Peacekeeping and counterinsurgency are, at the moment, two separate areas of research. They come with an associated debate which includes inquiries such as, how and in what ways they are related to each other. The purpose of this study is to further examine how peacekeeping operations and counterinsurgency relates to each other through the lens of a public-centric counterinsurgency theory applied on a unit participating in a peacekeeping operation. David Kilcullens theory about the 28 articles is used to represent the perspective of counterinsurgency and the selected case of a peacekeeping unit is the swedish contribution to NORDBAT 2 and their time in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The results indicates that Kilcullens theory of counterinsurgency partially can explain how the swedish unit in the peacekeeping operation functioned before, during and after the operation. The results further indicates that similarities in the relation between peacekeeping operations and counterinsurgency can be identified. Not only on a strategic and political level, but also on a lower level of operations.

In this paper, a discussion and analysis on the Swedish participation  in the UN-mission in the Balkan conflict versus the reporting from the Swedish news press Dagens Nyheter (DN) of the same action is held. From a ground in survey questions to Swedish soldiers that took part in the conflict ,what they thought of the conflict and what got reported back to the Swedish civilians via the press and their differences is later held. A question in the survey also treats what the soldiers think got changed in the Swedish Armed Forces due to their actions in the conflict and what the soldiers thought of the view in the 1990s, national and international, on the Swedish Armed Forces. This survey and the articles  from DN that is analyzed is the ground in this papers issues, discussion and results. The paper overall and later the analysis is based on a theory in Oral history taken of Malin Thor's previous researches in the field and also strengthened with other researchers in the same field of studies.   The title to this paper is from the English press reporting about the Swedes taking charge of the UNPROFOR-mission in the Balkan conflict and is about the Colonel Ulf Henricsson, commander of the UN Nordic battalion (NordBat2) in central Bosnia and his firm hand and authority against the local warlords. Later the title went famous international and a lot of different newspapers used it as a headline when reporting about the Swedish soldiers acting aggressively and firmly towards the war-criminals when protecting civilians and their properties in Bosnia.
