Syftet med uppsatsen är att ge en uppdaterad översikt av området BCI (Brain Computer Interface) och undersöka vad som hänt sedan begreppet introducerades i forskningssammanhang; vilka praktiska resultat forskningen lett till och vilka tillämpningar som tillkommit. Metoden som företrädesvis används är litteraturstudie som tecknar bakgrund och enkät. Därefter följer en diskussion där utmaningar för framtiden, potential och tillämpningar i BCI-tekniken behandlas utifrån ett neuropsykologiskt perspektiv. Kommer BCI-tekniken att implementeras på samma sätt som radio, TV och telekommunikationer i samhället och vilka etiska och tekniska problem finns idag. För att skildra allmänhetens uppfattning om BCI genomfördes en webbaserad enkätundersökning (survey) i form av pilotstudie (n=32) som syftar till att ge en indikation på attityder och hur allmänhetens opinion med avseende på tillämpningar i samtiden och jämförelser med avseende på teknisk bakgrund.

The Swedish energy companies have several different systems for data collection of the energy consumption of their clients. Often computerized remote meter readers are put in practice in order to register the energy consumption of large companies. The majority of household clients, however, are read off by the assistance of manual methods. Household power consumption is read off once a year. As a result, these clients are not debited for their actual consumption; their invoices during the year are the result of estimations. At times when the electricity supply system is highly loaded, electricity is more expensive. Nevertheless all clients are billed with an average price. Many clients are dissatisfied with this situation. A large number of clients find it difficult to understand their invoices and demand them to be made easier to understand and to contain a specification of actual energy consumption. The Swedish Gov. wants energy companies to decrease the number of power peak loads and so new regulations concerning more frequent meter readings will probably be put in practice. In this essay different kinds of methods are described for data collection with the purpose of finding out which method power companies in Sweden should adopt in the future. Computerized systems that power companies could use are for example CustCom, Mcom and BBIF20. These systems are based on hourly remote meter readings, monthly remote meter readings and hourly remote meter readings combined with certain control functions. Finally it is recommended that power companies in Sweden should introduce hourly remote meter readings on all the power consumption provided that new regulations concerning more frequent meter readings are put into practice.

Predicting work-related behaviour from personality traits and situational characteristics

The dual influence of person characteristics and situational contexts on behaviour has long been debated on by personality and social psychologists alike. Traditionally, personality traits have been emphasised, whilst the assessment of situational influences has received limited attention. As a result, there has been little progress in understanding how situational contexts impact individuals' daily organisational behaviour – a key imperative of organisational psychology. This study leverages recent developments in situation assessment to investigate the extent to which personality traits and situational characteristics independently, and in combination, predict workrelevant behaviour. Survey response data from 256 South African participants within the International Situations Project (ISP; Baranski et al., 2017) were analysed. Sets of multiple regression analyses were conducted with each of seven work-related behaviours as criteria, using the Big Five personality traits and DIAMONDS situational characteristics as predictors. Next, barebones meta-analysis (Hunter & Schmidt, 1990) of the resulting multiple correlation coefficients was conducted to estimate the relative predictive power of traits vs. situations, averaged across target behaviours. The results revealed that the combination of personality traits and situational characteristics explained more variance in work-related behaviour than their independent effects. Although situational characteristics independently predicted all work-related behaviours, personality traits were not strong predictors of particular behaviours. These findings highlight the importance of integrating knowledge of both traits and situations to enhance our understanding of why people behave the way they do. Practically, results further suggest that organisations may increase the ability to predict employee behaviour on the job by incorporating measures of situations, in combination with traits, into human resource management applications (e.g., personnel selection and assessment).

A corpus-based investigation of collocational errors in EFL Taiwanese high school students' compositions

Many language instructors focus on vocabulary word by word, neglecting common phrases. The result is that English as a Second Language students do not learn to speak idiomatic English (i.e. they make collocation errors). This study of the English compositions of National Tainan Second Senior High School students in Taiwan examined collocation errors, categorizing them according to Benson, Benson and Ilson's Collocation Classification System. An examination was then made of the error types as correlated with general English proficiency.
