From modelling to dimensioning : To modify production models to analysis models

Barikan, Mohammed, Ehsanzamir, Siavash January 2013 (has links)
Many businesses operating in the construction industry are nowadays substituting traditional tools in their project designing process with more modern and advanced BIM tools. However, this transition is taking place at a rather languid pace due to a skeptical and conservative attitude in the construction industry. Today, analysis software that has the ability to calculate and analyze complex structures is available. Yet, despite of this fact, manual calculations are still very common. The use of modern 3D-BIM tools has just started to gain a foothold, and a slight increase in both use and popularity in the construction branch. It is virtually possible to modify a production model into an analysis model using this technology, and that is one of the many aspects that will be investigated in this report. The differences between manual calculation and calculations made with analysis tools will be outlined, as well as the profitability of working with a production model where an analysis model has been integrated. The main objective of the following study was to provide a functioning approach for the effective transfer from a production model to an analysis model, which this investigation have eventuated to a more efficient and profitable project.

Användningen av BIM under förvaltningsskedet - Utvecklingen av digitala ritningar/verktyg & hur det används idag / BIM During Management Phase- The development of digital drawings/tools & how it's used today

Ekefäll, Oscar, Oktay, Philip January 2018 (has links)
This bachelor thesis is about in what range BIM or other digital solutions are being used today during management phase and also map out curtain problem areas. Management phase has fallen back in the technical development if you compare them with other parts of the building process. There is still a lot of 2D-drawings being used during management phase.Interviews has been made with both managers and consultants. With these interviews and study of literature a mapping of the BIM-usage has been made. Witch has shown that the 3D-model that was made earlier in the building process was seldom used during management phase. In fact none of the companies that was interviewed was using the 3D-model. This is a huge problem because much of the information that was once made is lost. The reason for this is either that the managers doesn’t have competence enough to use the model or that the question isn’t prioritized because the managers can’t see any economic value in the model. If the management phase want to develop in the field of technology there has to be specific programs for managers available. There’s also a lot of older people working in the field of management and the computer skills are very different between the coworkers. This is bad from a BIM-perspective because the technical competence is lacking. Which can be explained because the management phase isn’t prioritized at the Universities.

[en] ASSESSMENT OF THE BIM METHODOLOGY THROUGH THE 3D PARAMETRIC MODELING OF A CONVENTIONAL PROJECT / [pt] AVALIAÇÃO DA METODOLOGIA BIM ATRAVÉS DA MODELAGEM PARAMÉTRICA 3D DE UM PROJETO CONVENCIONAL

NICOLAS ALEXANDROS PAPADOPOULOS 12 November 2014 (has links)
[en] Currently the process involved in the construction of a facility remains fragmented and dependent on paper-based communication modes. There is a global trend where a single project may be developed by different companies and may involve several teams of specialists. However, the computational tools that are still in use are the same as the ones being used for decades. Due to this paradigm shift, a methodology known as Building Information Modeling, BIM, has been gaining acceptance in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) area. Motivated by this process of transition, this thesis aims to study and evaluate some of the computational tools available in the market that are used to implement the BIM methodology. This assessment is made using the design of an actual facility, which is done using the traditional 2D design methodology, i.e., disjoint 2D documents. The project is modeled in 3D with using integrated database according to the BIM methodology. The resulting project is then compared to the original project. At the end of this study, real examples of the benefits of parameterized 3D modeling are obtained. Several inconsistencies in the original design documents are observed, which would not have occurred if the BIM methodology had been used from the beginning of the project. In addition, the integration between a 3D structural modeling tool (Autodesk Revit Structure 2012) and a structural analysis tool (Autodesk Robot 2012) is evaluated. Integration strategies are tested and the best practices are described in detail. The findings of this work suggest the use of the BIM methodology is promising and support its use in Brazil.
