Blue Cool Connectivity box

The invention of closed circuit television (CCTV) has initiated a new trend in high security by video surveillance. More recently, CCTV cameras have been incorporating wireless LAN technology for data transfer purposes by using on chip memory storage until the time of update. In this thesis, short range communication such as Bluetooth low energy (Bluetooth smart) is used in order to perform simple I/O applications. The two important components of the project are the camera and the Bluetooth module box. An external antenna is designed for the connectivity box and the operating range of the box is deduced by using link budget. The blue cool connectivity box is assessed by defining the capabilities of the box, i.e., simple I/O operations. Field test measurements for the designed antenna provide optimum communication range. The thesis also reviews software simulation tools that are essential for antenna design and path loss modelling. The efficiency of simulated measurements versus real-time measurements are also assessed. The primary target of the thesis is to detail the design of a cost-effective antenna based on link budget calculations and perform basic I/O tasks wirelessly between the blue cool connectivity box and the camera. It is concluded that in future works, advanced operations can be added on to the existing model. It is also suggested that a model for multi floor communication can be designed.

This thesis deals with creating a library for the Android OS which enables efficient wireless communication with platform Arduino. The target is to create an application for Android OS, using a created library that allows you to capture data from various sensors and control effectors. The work describes basic wireless interfaces for Android OS and Arduino platform. The main benefits and drawbacks functions are also introduced. The comparison of current consumption for modules HM-10 and DIGI S1 has been carried out as well. Possibility of data acquisition and effector controlling exercises have been tested and verified.

Dagens smarta enheter bygger nuförtiden allt mer på att ständigt hålla sig uppkopplade till allt inom dess omgivning. Industrier och hem innehåller alltmer små batteridrivna sensorer samt enheter som kommunicerar med varandra, dock är detta en begränsning när det gäller räckvidden av en enhet. Målet med denna uppsatsen är att undersöka användarbarhet av nya funktioner inom Bluetooth, samt belysa fördelar och nackdelar vilket kan uppstå med respektive teknologi när det gäller förlängd räckvidd. Vidare utfördes en jämförelsestudie, med målet att framföra skillnader för hur Bluetooth Mesh skiljer sig gentemot de andra Mesh teknologierna.Resultatet av denna uppsatsen visar att Bluetooth Mesh och Long-range har diverse svagheter och styrkor när det gäller olika användningsområden. Överföring av data med en högre hastighet och ett måttligt avstånd skulle vara tillräckligt för Long-range, medan Bluetooth Mesh anpassar sig mer för en större täckning och lättare dataöverföringar. / The smart devices of today are more and more dependent on being constantly connected to everything in its surrounding. Industries and homes contain more and more small battery powered sensors and devices, communicating with each other. However, there is a limitation when it comes to the range coverage of a device. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the usefulness of the new features mesh networking and extended range for Bluetooth, as well as highlight the pros and cons that may exist with respective extended range technologies. Furthermore, a theoretical comparative study was conducted, with the aim of presenting some of the differences between Bluetooth Mesh and other common Mesh technologies. The results show that both Bluetooth Mesh and Long-range have strengths and weaknesses when it comes to different use cases. Transferring data with a bit higher throughput and a moderate distance would be suitable for a Long-range purpose, while Bluetooth Mesh is more suitable for a larger coverage and lighter data transfer.

Den senaste innovationen av Bluetooth SIG är Bluetooth mesh topologi som tillåter att ansluta trådlösa enheter i ett många till många förhållanden. I denna avhandling utvecklade vi ett inomhusspårningssystem baserat på Bluetooth Low Energy teknik och mesh topologi för att undersöka de potentiella fördelar som Bluetooth Low Energy nätverk har att erbjuda för inomhusspårningssystemet. Systemet är utvecklat för att spåra Bluetooth beacon i en inomhus kontorsmiljö. Received Signal Strength används för att beräkna avståndet till beacon, medan positionen av beacon beräknas med Extended Min-Max och Trilateration algoritmer. Beräkningar utförs på servern. Resultaten analyseras genom jämförelse av Root Mean Square Error av båda algoritmerna. The system is developed to track Bluetooth beacon inan indoor office environment. Received Signal Strength is used to calculate the distance tothe beacon, while the position of the beacon is calculated using Extended Min-Max andTrilateration algorithms. Calculations are performed on the server. The results are analysed through comparison of Root Mean Square Error of both algorithms. In this thesis, indoor tracking is evaluated as part of an assignment given by u-blox.

The work is about developing an existing product in a company. The productis AnyBus Communicator used to connect two serial devices with differentindustrial network interfaces. The development involves combining theexisting product with a BLE-module and an antenna. Wireless technologyopens up various possibilities and plays a significant role in complexenvironments. Today, communication occurs through an Ethernet cable. Theproject's goal is to design a circuit for the BLE-module integrated into theproduct's PCB. The goal also includes presenting a choice of antenna and aplastic-type for antenna enclosure that can be used in future development ofthe product. The work began with the evaluation of the BLE-module, wherea communication test was performed to test the BLE-module's properties.Several tests were performed using Network Analyzer to select a suitableantenna from three different antennas. The antennas were tested with twodifferent types of plastic designed using Solidworks, to present a choice ofthe type of plastic to be used during all tests in the development process.Presenting an electrical schematic and PCB for the wireless AnyBusCommunicator was a goal of the project. Since it was impossible to combinethe BLE-module with the product in the same PCB, it was decided to designa separate circuit that illustrates how the BLE-module will be connected tothe product in the future. The project resulted in a proposal for both an antennaand a plastic-type. A prototype circuit has also been designed for the BLEmodule. The choice of antenna and plastic-type was based on the best valuewhen measuring return loss values. The type of plastic chosen will not be usedin the finished product but is a way to test antenna functionality against 3Dprinted plastics. This is considered to be a cheaper solution that gives a similarresult compared to the enclosure used in the product. A finished design of thecircuit board has been implemented. However, it could not be tested due tothe company having a difficult situation to produce ordinary circuit.Therefore, it can be concluded that the work had relevant proposals and wasa forward step in the development process. / Arbetet handlar om att utveckla en befintlig produkt på ett företag. Produktenär en AnyBus Communicator som används för att koppla upp två seriellaenheter som har olika industriella nätverksgränssnitt. Utvecklingen innebäratt kombinera befintliga produkten med en BLE-modul och en antenn. Idag sker kommunikationen med en Ethernet-kabel. Målet med projektet äratt designa en krets för BLE-modulen som skall integreras i produktens PCB.Målet omfattar också att presentera ett val av antenn och en plasttyp förantennkapsling som kan användas i framtida utvecklingen för produkten. Arbetet inleddes med utvärdering av BLE-modulen, där ettkommunikationstest utfördes för att testa BLE-modulens egenskaper. Ettantal tester genomfördes med hjälp av nätverksanalysator för att kunna väljaen lämplig antenn utav tre olika antenner. Plasttypen som valdes kommer inte att användas i denfärdiga produkten, utan det är ett sätt att testa antennfunktionalitet mot 3Dprintade plast. Det anses vara en billigare lösning som ger ett liknande resultatjämfört med kapslingen som används i produkten. En färdig design påkretskortet har genomförts men kunde inte testats på grund av att företagethar en besvärlig situation att få in vanliga produktionskort i dagsläget. Därförkan slutsatsen dras att arbetet hade relevanta förslag och var ett steg iutvecklingsprocessen.
