Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brasil / Este estudo focaliza a Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde em Doenças Infecciosas e Parasitárias – BVS DIP Brasil, com vistas a propor um conjunto de parâmetros para o alcance de sua efetividade. Os conceitos de biblioteca virtual, biblioteca híbrida e a noção de efetividade, esta formulada no âmbito da Ciência da Informação, foram buscados para sustentar teoricamente a pesquisa. Trata-se de pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, na qual foram utilizados os métodos de pesquisa documental – exame de textos do campo da Ciência da Informação de caráter empírico sobre avaliação de serviços de informação na web; exame de documentos fundadores e de avaliação da BVS DIP Brasil, análise do sítio desta biblioteca virtual relativos a conteúdo, forma de apresentação, navegabilidade e aspectos administrativos – e entrevista feitas com representantes de três segmentos: pesquisadores/usuários, gestores e bibliotecários. Os resultados alcançados consistiram num conjunto de parâmetros que, focalizando aspectos informacionais, comunicacionais e gerenciais poderão ser entendidos como uma contribuição para o aprimoramento da biblioteca virtual estudada, com vistas à sua efetividade. / This study focuses on the Health Virtual Library in Infectious and Parasitic Diseases – BVS DIP Brazil, in order to propose a set of parameters to obtain effectiveness. The concepts of virtual library, hybrid library and the notion of effectiveness, the lattrer formulated within the framework of Information Science, were searched to give theoretical support to the research. This is a qualitative research in which methods of documentary research were used - analysis of empirical texts in the field of information science about the evaluation of information services on the web; examination of founding and evaluation documents concerning to the BVS DIP Brazil, and analysis of the virtual library site related to its contents, presentation, navigability and administrative aspects – and also interviews were made with representatives people of three segments: researchers / users, managers and librarians. The work resulted in a set of parameters, that by focusing on informational, communication and management aspects, can be understood as a contribution to the improvement of the analysed virtual library, with a view to its effectiveness.

Movement and Structure of Atmospheric Populations of Fusarium

Fusarium is one of the most important genera of fungi on earth. Many species of Fusarium are well-suited for atmospheric dispersal, yet little is known about their aerobiology. Previous research has shown that large-scale features known as atmospheric transport barriers (Lagrangian coherent structures) guide the transport and mixing of atmospheric populations of Fusarium. The overall goal of this work is to expand our knowledge on the movement and structure of atmospheric populations of Fusarium. The first objective was to monitor changes in colony forming units (CFUs) in atmospheric populations of Fusarium over small time intervals (10 min to several hours). We hypothesized that consecutive collections of Fusarium with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) demonstrate small variations in colony counts. To test this hypothesis, sampling devices on UAVs were separated into two groups, four inner sampling devices opened during the first 10 minutes and four outer sampling devices opened during the second 10 minutes. Results indicated that (1) consecutive collections of Fusarium at 100 m demonstrated small variations in counts and (2) the similarity between collections decreased as the time between sampling intervals increased. The second objective was to determine the structure of atmospheric populations of Fusarium species and relate this to potential source regions. We hypothesized that diverse atmospheric populations of Fusarium are associated with multiple source regions. To test this hypothesis, Fusarium samples were collected with UAVs and identified to the level of species by sequencing a portion of the translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (TEF-1•). Potential source regions were identified using the atmospheric transport model HYSPLIT. Results indicated that (1) diverse atmospheric populations of Fusarium appeared to be associated with multiple source regions, and (2) the number of Fusarium species collected with UAVs increased with back-trajectory distance of the sampled air. The third objective was to examine the associations between concentrations of populations of Fusarium at ground level (1 m) and in the lower atmosphere (100 m). We hypothesized that concentrations of Fusarium in the atmosphere vary between 1m and 100m. To test this hypothesis, Fusarium was collected with a Burkard volumetric sampler (BVS) and UAVs. Colony counts were converted to spore concentrations (spores per cubic meter of air). Sampling efficiency was used to correct spore concentrations. Results indicated that (1) the distribution of spore concentrations was similar for both samplers over different times of the day, (2) spore concentrations were generally higher in the fall, spring, and summer, and lower in the winter, and (3) spore concentrations were generally higher with BVS samplers than those with UAVs for both hourly and seasonal data. The fourth objective was to assess the ability of strains of Fusarium collected in the lower atmosphere to cause plant disease. We hypothesized that certain isolates of Fusarium collected with UAVs cause plant diseases. To test this hypothesis, we randomly selected isolates of three different species (F. circinatum, F. avenaceum, and F. sporotrichioides) of Fusarium collected with UAVs to inoculate three different hosts (wheat, corn, and pine). Known Fusarium strains were obtained from J. Leslie at Kansas State University as controls. Results indicated showed that the three different isolates tested were able to cause plant diseases in three different hosts (wheat, corn, and pine), confirming that these were potential agents of disease. This work sets the stage for future work examining potential source regions, transport distances, and seasonal patterns of Fusarium. An increased understanding of the dynamics and population structure of plant pathogenic Fusarium in the lower atmosphere is essential for predicting the spread of plant disease and optimizing disease management strategies in the future. / Ph. Konceptarbete om skidbalk i kompositutförande till BVS10 / Concept work of making a skid beam in composite material for a BVS10

This thesis has been performed at BAE Systems Hägglunds, which is located in Örnsköldsvik. Hägglunds has a wide background of engineering, where they have manufactured all from airplanes to lifting cranes. Currently they only produce track vehicles at Hägglunds, where they manufacture the CV90 and BVS10 models. This thesis concerns the BVS10 which is an all-terrain-vehicle. The main purpose with the BVS10 is to enable transportation of material and personnel thru tough terrain. It isn’t designed for hard combat because of its lack of armor in favour of mobilityThe background of this work is that the BVS10 in recent years has been used more and more in close combat. It has also driven over many IED’s in Afghanistan. Because of this a change in the design of the BVS10 had to be carried out, which led to more armor. This resulted in that the total weight increased from 10.5 tons to 15 tons. This caused unacceptable reduction in lifetime of the torsion springs and the vehicle had to be sent back for repair. BAE Systems then decided to put a lot of effort in decreasing the weight of the vehicle by using light weight material in some components.This work is about the development of a concept for the skidbeam where steel is replaced by a composite material. Due to lack of knowledge about fiber composite and their manufacturing processes, a pre-study was made. After the pre-study the concept work on the beam was initiated, but this was only the beginning. When the material in the beam was switched to composite it was required to redesign the components that’s attached to the beam in order to function correctly.Due to limitations in the geometry it was impossible to use glass fiber as the material. Glass fiber is much cheaper than carbon fiber but the strength and E-modulus is lower. Instead it was decided to use carbon fiber combined with epoxy, which is the most common use for structural applications. To minimize the weight of the beam it was decided to use adhesive bonding as much as possible.The concept work was carried out by a single person but it quickly became clear that cooperation with composite manufacturers was needed in order to come up with a good solution to the problem. A large number of Swedish companies were contacted. Nordic Aircraft was one of the most cooperative companies that also had good knowledge of prepreg materials. The prepreg manufacturing method was chosen for its high quality of the final products, and because they are relatively easy to handle.After much discussion and simulations, a final concept was developed whish Nordic Aircraft later on used to calculate a quotation. The concept was met with approval by BAE Systems. Nordic Aircraft claimed to have the knowledge and the experience to manufacture the beam. / Det här examensarbetet har utförts på BAE Systems Hägglunds beläget i Örnsköldsvik. Hägglunds har bred erfarenhet av ingenjörsarbete och de har tillverkat allt ifrån flygplan till lyftkranar. I nuläget produceras endast bandvagnsfordon hos Hägglunds, de tillverkar modellerna CV90 och BVS10. Detta arbete handlar om BVS10 som är ett allterrängsfordon. BVS10 huvudsyfte är att den ska kunna transportera materiel och personal genom svår terräng. Den är inte avsedd som attackfordon, då dess bepansring är lätt till förmån för mobilitet.Arbetets bakgrund är att den på senare år allt mer har använts i ”close combat” och därmed blivit mycket beskjuten. Den har även fått utstå IED:s (improvised explosive device) i Afghanistan. P.g.a. dessa faktorer krävdes det en förändring av fordonet och den blev allt mer bepansrad. Detta medförde att totalvikten ökade från 10.5ton till ca 15ton, vilket ledde till att fjäderbussningarna slets ut snabbare och behövdes bytas allt oftare. Därmed beslöt man att försöka sänka fordonets totala vikt med hjälp av att byta material i vissa komponenter.Det här arbetet handlar om att ta fram ett koncept till att byta ut stål mot kompositmaterial i skidbalken. Eftersom kunskapen om kompositer var begränsad gjordes en förstudie på detta, men också hur tillverkningsmetoderna för kompositer ser ut. Efter förstudien påbörjades konceptarbetet för balken men detta var endast början. Då materialet i balken byttes ut var komponenterna runt balken tvungna att designas om för att fungera.P.g.a. begränsningar i geometrin var det inte möjligt att använda glasfiber som material. Glasfiber är mycket billigare än kolfiber men har också lägre e-modul och styrka. Istället valdes kolfiber i kombination med epoxy, vilket är den mest använda kompositen för strukturella delar. För att begränsa viktökning på balken valdes limning så mycket som möjligt.Konceptlösningarna utfördes till en början individuellt, men man insåg snabbt att det krävdes samarbete med komposittillverkare för att komma fram till en bra lösning. Ett stort antal företag i Sverige kontaktades. Nordic Aircraft var ett av de mest samarbetsvilliga företagen som också hade bra kunskap om prepreg material. Prepreg som tillverkningsmetod valdes för dess höga kvalité på slutprodukterna och att de är relativt enkla att handskas med.Efter mycket diskussion och simuleringar var ett koncept framtaget för beräkningar av priset. Konceptet gillades hos BAE Systems och Nordic Aircraft ansåg sig ha kunskapen att tillverka detaljen. Nordic Aircraft gjorde en grov offert baserad på de krav som BAE Systems hade.

Potencial de inserção das redes de informação científica nos processos de ensino-aprendizagem em ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem / Insertion potential of Scientific Information Networks in teaching-learning processes in virtual learning environments.

A presente tese investiga o potencial de inserção das Redes de Informação Científica nos processos de ensino-aprendizagem em Ambiente Virtual de Aprendizagem (AVA) como apoio para o ensino exclusivamente a distância quanto como apoio ao ensino presencial. Como suporte a investigação, procurou-se construir panorama teórico fundamentado em estudos sobre a contribuição das TICs para o desenvolvimento e aperfeiçoamento de propostas e projetos, os desafios para usos das TICs na integração dos ambientes presenciais e virtuais de aprendizagem, no ensino em redes colaborativas de informação e no favorecimento à aprendizagem cooperativa, centrada no indivíduo e autônoma. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória de caráter descritivo e aplicado. O campo de pesquisa é a Rede BVS Odontologia Brasil, composta por 17 instituições de ensino, pesquisa e extensão. Para investigar a infraestrutura e capacitação dos profissionais bibliotecários para inserção neste novo ambiente foram entrevistados diretores das bibliotecas integrantes da Rede utilizando a ferramenta Adobe Connect no período de dezembro/2014 a março/2015. A pesquisa revelou que, apesar do grande potencial para apoio à atividades de Ensino-Aprendizagem virtual no âmbito da área de conhecimento, a inserção da Rede BVS Odontologia nos ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem ainda se mostra pouco efetiva. Verificou-se que falta uma cultura de inovação, bem como um planejamento estratégico, tanto por parte das instituições como das bibliotecas, para a formulação e implementação de política de inovação relacionada a cinco aspectos fundamentais: a) a concepção de redes como um processo de ensino-aprendizagem pautado na construção e não na reprodução do conhecimento, aliada a um entendimento do potencial comunicacional dos ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem; b) o aproveitamento do potencial de inserção das redes de informação científica e a apropriação de seus aspectos fundamentais, tendo os ambientes virtuais como espaços de colaboração e autoria; c) uma visão do profissional bibliotecário que leve à construção de propostas formativas, atentando para a contribuição da perspectiva da experiência on-line como mais um canal de produção e disseminação da informação; d) a integração dos sujeitos que atuam em ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem; e) definição de políticas institucionais para ensino-aprendizagem em ambientes virtuais que sejam concebidas de forma colaborativa, considerando a necessidade de infra-estrutura e pessoal capacitado para atuação nesses novos ambientes. / The present thesis investigates the potential for insertion of Scientific Information Networks in the teaching-learning processes in the Learning Management System (LMS) as support for teaching exclusively by distance as to support for presential teaching. This is an exploratory research of descriptive and applied character. The research field is the VHL Network Dentistry Brazil, made up of 17 educational, research and extension institutions. To investigate the infrastructure and capacity of librarians for insertion in this new environment they were interviewed directors of Network members libraries using the Adobe Connect tool from December / 2014 to March / 2015. The research has revealed that despite the great potential for support of virtual Teaching-Learning activities in the framework of area of knowledge, the insertion of the VHL Dentistry Network in virtual learning environments also shown less effective. It was found that lack a culture of innovation as well as a strategic plan, both by institutions such as libraries, to the formulation and implementation of innovation policy related to five fundamental aspects: a) network conception as a process of teaching-learning process lined in construction and not in the reproduction of knowledge allied to an understanding of the communication potential of virtual learning environments; b) the harnessing of potential for insertion of scientific information networks and the appropriation of its fundamental aspects, having virtual environments such as collaboration spaces and authorship; c) a vision of librarian leading to the construction of proposals, to attempt to the contribution from the perspective of on-line experience as an a one more dissemination channel of information; d) the integration of subjects that act in practice on learning virtual environments; e) the definition of institutional policies for teaching-learning in virtual environments that are designed collectively.

Logistik och beslut ur ett aktörsperspektiv : materielanskaffning för sveriges insats i Isaf

Syftet med uppsatsen är att öka förståelsen för hur Försvarsmakten fattar beslut rörande logistikens genomförande för svenska förband insatta utomlands. Uppsatsen analyserar huruvida Försvarsmaktens beslut rörande logistikgenomförandet för de svenska markstridsförbanden i ISAF varit rationella och i enlighet med hur logistiken är planerad att genomföras, samt på vilket sätt logistikgenomförandet har förändrats. Teorimodellen i arbetet har varit Graham T. Allisons tre modeller, Modell I om rationell aktör, Modell II det organisatoriska perspektivet samt Modell III det byråkratiska perspektivet. Analysen av beslutsprocessen med de två fallen med Pansarterrängbil 6 och Bandvagnssystem 10 med ett logistikperspektiv i fokus, har visat att Försvarsmakten ur ett aktörsperspektiv agerat rationellt enligt Modell I i de två analyserade fallen. I det organisatoriska perspektivet och då främst rörande rutinbeskrivningar för hur beslut skall gå tillväga finns det ett relativt starkt stöd för detta enligt Modell II, främst med hänsyn taget till att organisationen har informella rutiner för tillvägagångsätt. Svagast stöd är det för modell III rörande maktkamp, där analysen visat att det inte funnits någon tävling mellan aktörerna då fokus varit på säkerhetsaspekten. Resultatet av undersökningen sammanfattas enligt följande: Genomförandet av logistiken har anpassats efter hand behov uppstått, då det inte fanns något definierat logistikkoncept för insatserna. Den främsta förändringen är i fallet BvS 10 där industrin hade helhetsansvaret för logistikcykeln och inte Försvarsmakten. Logistiken påverkades av rationella överväganden samt organisationens informella kunskaper för att driva processen framåt med syftet att få den bästa lösningen.

Os objetivos da pesquisa são: (1) identificar o papel da biblioteca universitária no gerenciamento de informações digitais; (2) compreender a usabilidade do sistema de informação como ambiente de aprendizagem; (3) levantar estudos e modelos sobre o processo de comunicação, usabilidade, sistema de informação e mediação da informação em ambientes acadêmicos; (4) analisar como se dá a utilização dessa ferramenta para a formação, apoio às pesquisas e atuação dos estudantes de psicologia. Constitui-se de uma pesquisa descritiva e de um estudo de caso. O procedimento metodológico dividiu-se em duas etapas. Na primeira parte, foi realizado um estudo comparativo do sistema e analisado o mesmo com base na Cartilha de Usabilidade do Ministério de Logística do Governo Federal do Brasil; na segunda parte, foram analisados dados coletados por meio de questionário com 101 alunos e 6 professores de psicologia da UFBA. Foram também relacionados, por meio da revisão da literatura, conceitos sobre usabilidade, o papel e tendência da universidade e das bibliotecas universitárias como espaço de disseminação das TICs e as práticas atuais de competências informacionais e científicas. A BVS-Psi é compreendida como ferramenta de comunicação e ambiente de aprendizagem, que reúne literatura brasileira em psicologia, divulgação de eventos da área e promove parcerias por meio de trabalho cooperativo de diferentes instituições. Foi constatado que, para poder potencializar o desenvolvimento de pesquisas na área, é necessária a motivação para utilização e apropriação de novos espaços de aprendizagem, habilitando o estudante ao autoaprendizado. Um novo paradigma educacional pode fornecer diretrizes no que tange à formação do usuário e traçar reflexões a respeito da relevância do bibliotecário universitário na participação ativa da comunicação virtual, compartilhando recursos, integrando e disseminando democraticamente as diversas fontes de informação e da produção científica nacional.This research analyzes the degree of usability of the Information System at the Virtual Psychology Library (VL-Psi), the advantages and disadvantages of the access processes, as well as the search and use of information by students of the Institute of Psychology at the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA). The research goals are: (1) identify the role of the university library in the management of digital information; (2) understand the usability of the information system as a learning environment; (3) highlight models and studies about the communication process, the usability, information system and mediate the information in academic environment; (4) analyze how this tool is used in the undergraduate studies, support for researches and the student’s professional practice life. It is a descriptive research and also a case study. The methodological procedure had two stages. The first part constituted a comparative study of the system based on the Cartilha de Usabilidade do Ministério de Logística do Governo Federal do Brasil; in the second part, was analyzed the data collected through a survey with 101 students and 6 teachers of psychology of UFBA. It was also done a literature review, which related concepts of usability, the role and trends of the university and college libraries as a space for dissemination of ICTs and the current practices of information and scientific knowledge. The VL-Psi is understood as a communication tool, a learning environment which gathers Brazilian’s psychology literature, publish events of the area and promotes partnerships through the collaborative work of different institutions. It was found that in order to enhance the development of research in this area, it is required motivation to use and appropriation the new learning centers, enabling the student to self-learn. A new educational paradigm may provide both guidance to the development of users and discuss the relevance of the active participations and democratically disseminating several information sources of national scientific production.
