Online algoritmy pro varianty bin packingu / Online algorithms for variants of bin packing

An online algorithm must make decisions immediately and irrevocably based only on a part of the input without any knowledge of the future part of the input. We introduce the competitive analysis of online algorithms, a standard worst-case analysis, and present main results of this analysis on the problem of online Bin Packing and on some of its variants. In Bin Packing, a sequence of items of size up to 1 arrives to be packed into the minimal number of unit capacity bins. Mainly, we focus on Colored Bin Packing in which items have also a color and we cannot pack two items of the same color adjacently in a bin. For Colored Bin Packing, we improve some previous results on the problem with two colors and present the first results for arbitrarily many colors. Most notably, in the important case when all items have size zero, we give an optimal 1.5-competitive algorithm. For items of arbitrary size we present a lower bound of 2.5 and a 3.5-competitive algorithm. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Summary: This dissertation is focused on observation of locomotion two groups of mantled guereza in ZOO Prague and ZOO Usti nad Labem. The observation took place in the summer of 2011. The locomotion behavior is for better clarity presented by tables, diagrams and detailed description of the breeding facilities of both groups. The work contains list of all species of guereza, including all subspecies of mantled guereza. Key words: primates, old world monkeys, Colobinae, black and white colobus monkey, mantled guereza, threat, behavior, breeding in the zoo.

Minimum patch size thresholds of reproductive success of songbirds

Preservation of large tracts of habitat is often recommended for long-term population viability of area-sensitive species. Large tracts may not always be available. Smaller patches, though not able to contain a viable population individually, may contribute to overall regional population viability if within the small patches pairs could successfully reproduce. By definition, area-sensitive species should have a minimum patch size threshold of habitat below which they will not likely reproduce. Two potential causes for positive relationships between patch size and production are inverse relationships between patch size and brood parasitism and patch size and food availability. My objectives were (1) to determine the minimum patch size thresholds of reproductive success for golden-cheeked warblers (Dendroica chrysoparia), black-and-white warblers (Mniotilta varia), and white-eyed vireos (Vireo griseus); (2) to determine whether thresholds for occupancy, territory establishment by males, or pairing success were indicative of thresholds of reproduction; (3) to determine whether the proportion of pairs fledging brown-headed cowbird (Molothrus ater) young was related to patch size, and (4) to determine the affects of patch size on food availability (i.e., arthropod abundance). The Vickery index of reproductive activity was used to determine reproductive activity of each male or pair and to quantify parasitism occurrences. I collected arthropods using branch clipping to assess the relationship between patch size and arthropod abundance. I found minimum patch size thresholds of reproductive success for golden-cheeked and black-and-white warblers, but not for white-eyed vireos. Minimum patch size of reproductive success was between 15 and 20.1 ha. Minimum patch size thresholds for occupancy, territory establishment by males, and pair formation were not consistent with thresholds for reproductive success. I found no relationships between patch size and cowbird parasitism or patch size and arthropod biomass. Conservation practices for target species based on thresholds of occupancy, territory establishment, or pair formation may not address issues of reproduction. The ability to identify thresholds of reproductive success for target species could be useful in conservation and management in multiple ways including setting goals for retention and restoration of a target species’ habitat patch size.

The Body Images of Black and White Women at an Urban University

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / This thesis examined the body images of Black and White women at an urban university. Self perception of body image may be positive or negative, healthy or unhealthy, and may be influenced by various factors. Qualitative interviews were completed with eight Black and eight White non-Hispanic female college students. A common theme emerged regarding images of beautiful and ideal bodies. The women held similar standards of beauty for White and Black women with one exception: White women were expected to be thinner whereas Black women were expected to be heavier. In addition, the women were of a common mind with regard to the influence of men, fashion, and relationships with female family members on their body images. Racial differences emerged when the women discussed male perceptions of female bodies. Women of both races believed that racial and ethnic minority men were more accepting of women with diverse body types than were White men. Familial influences on body image included the mother-daughter relationship and a new finding of the sister-sister relationship. Finally, an emergent and unexpected finding centered on a woman's history of sexual and physical abuse. Each of the six women who experienced sexual or physical abuse reported some level of negative body imagery. These findings are discussed in the context of the existing body image literature and recommendations are made regarding directions for future research.

Vorliegend eine Ausarbeitung von ca. 320 Schwarz-Weiß-Kleinbildnegativen aus den Jahren 2019 bis 2022. Entstanden sind diese in den botanischen Gärten Berlin, Lissabon, Paris, Zürich und Makarska. Es ist der Versuch, die Poesie und Einzigartigkeit zwischen Natur und Kultur künstlerisch zu erforschen.

Transition de géométrie en gravité quantique à boucles covariante / Geometry transition in covariant loop quantum gravity

Dans ce manuscrit, nous présentons un mise en place et calcul d'un observable physique dans le cadre de la Gravité Quantique à Boucles covariante, pour un processus physique mettant en jeu la gravité quantique de façon non-perturbatif. Nous considerons la transition d'une région de trou noir à une région de trou blanc, traitée comme une transition de géométrie assimilable à un effet de tunnel gravitationnel. L'observable physique est le temps caractéristique dans lequel ce processus se déroule.Nous commençons par une dérivation formelle de haut--en--bas, allant de l'action de Hilbert-Einstein au ansatz qui définit les amplitudes de l'approche covariante de la GQB. Nous prenons ensuite le chemin de bas--en--haut, aboutissant à l'image d'une intégrale de chemin du type somme-de-géométries qui émerge à la limite semi-classique, et discutons son lien étroite avec une intégrale de chemin basé sur l'action de Regge. En suite, nous expliquons comment construire des paquets d'ondes décrivant des géométries spatiales quantiques, plongées dans un espace-temps quantique de signature Lorentzienne.Nous montrons que lors de la mise en œuvre de ces outils, nous avons une estimation simple des amplitudes décrivant des transitions de géométrie de façon probabiliste. Nous construisons un mise en place basée sur l'espace-temps Haggard-Rovelli, où une approche d'intégrale de chemin peut être appliquée naturellement. Nous procédons à une dérivation d'une expression explicite, analytiquement bien--définie et finie, pour une amplitude de transition décrivant ce processus. Nous utilisons ensuite l'approximation semi-classique pour estimer le temps caractéristique du phénomène. / In this manuscript we present a calculation from covariant Loop Quantum Gravity, of a physical observable in a non-perturbative quantum gravitational physical process. The process regards the transition of a trapped region to an anti--trapped region and is treated as a quantum geometry transition akin to gravitational tunneling. The physical observable is the characteristic timescale in which the process takes place. We start with a top--to--bottom formal derivation of the ansatz defining the amplitudes for covariant LQG, starting from the Hilbert-Einstein action. We then take the bottom--to--top path, starting from the EPRL ansatz, to the sum--over--geometries path integral emerging in the semi-classical limit, and discuss its close relation to the naive path integral over the Regge action. We proceed to the construction of wave--packets describing quantum spacelike three-geometries that include a notion of embedding in a Lorentzian spacetime. We derive a simple estimation for the amplitudes describing geometry transition and show that a probabilistic description for such phenomena emerges, with the probability of the phenomena to take place being in general non-vanishing.The Haggard-Rovelli spacetime, modelling the spacetime surrounding the geometry transition region for a black to white hole process, is formulated. We then use the semi--classical approximation to give a general estimation of amplitudes describing the process. We conclude that the transition is predicted to be allowed by LQG, with a crossing time that is linear in the mass. The probability for the process to take place is suppressed but non-zero.

The literature survey reports that persons electing cosmetic plastic surgery for aesthetic or medical reasons, or those persons not electing any form of surgery, often experience physical, psychological and socio-cultural problems. The complexity among the associated variables, body images, identity status, fashionable clothing behaviour and social self-consciousness were investigated comparatively, using a biopsychosocial approach. The samples consisted of cosmetic surgery patients (n=25), Black and White female fashion participants (n=60) and breast oncology case studies (n=3). The research methods included descriptive and inferential statistics. A maximum of six questionnaires was administered per individual. The results indicated that a positive body image perception was related to identity integrity, fashionable dressing and a sense of social acceptance. Insight into the importance placed on the body as a means of self-expression can contribute to successful cosmetic and breast oncology surgery and also promote intercultural harmony, by reducing body-based prejudice. / Psychology / M.A. (Psychology)
