Fremont Ceramic Designs and Their Implications

Richards, Katie Kristina 03 July 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Although Fremont ceramic design styles have the potential to tell archaeologists a great deal about Fremont social interaction and boundaries, they have never been studied in detail. In the Fremont world, painted designs appear almost exclusively on the inside of bowls produced in two different regions of Utah. The firstis the Snake Valley production zone in southwestern Utah where Snake Valley Black-on-gray was produced; the second is the Emery production zone in central Utah where white-slipped Ivie Creek Black-on-white bowls were produced. The similarities in designs on the two main types of Fremont painted bowls indicates regional interaction and exchange of both materials and ideas between the two production zones, while the differences suggest regional distinctions existed within a larger Fremont complex.

Juodmargių ir žalųjų veislės karvių pieno sudėties bei kokybės rodiklių kaita veikiant laktacijos mėnesiui ir sezonui / Fluctuation of indexes of consist and quality of milk of black and white and red-spotted cows during different months and seasons of lactation

Zubė, Egidijus 19 April 2007 (has links)
To analyze fluctuation of indexes of consist and quality of milk of black and white and red-spotted cows during different months and seasons of lactation. The work was performed in Lithuanian Academy of Veterinary, department of stockbreeding as well as public enterprise Pieno Tyrimai during Master studies 2005-2007. During the analysis, data of controlled cows’ productivity was analyzed according to accounting information of cattle breeding. During the analysis we evaluated 98 Lithuanian black and white cows, Lithuanian red-spotted cows, as well as Ayrshire cows. Milk yield of Lithuanian black and white cows was 1160 kg of milk more than Ayrshire and 252 kg of milk more than Lithuanian red-spotted. Average milk yield of Ayrshire cows was 92 kg more than Lithuanian red-spotted. There was 0.53–0.83% of fat in milk of Lithuanian black and white cows, protein was 0.24–0.25% less than in Ayrshire or Lithuanian red-spotted. Lithuanian black and white cows had 1.0–15.0 kg of milk fat (or 0.3 –4.8%), milk protein – 23.0–25.0 kg (or 11.2–9.4%) more than in Ayrshire or Lithuanian red-spotted. During all periods of lactation most milk fat were found in milk of Ayrshire cows (5.05%), least in Lithuanian black and white cows (4.21%). Milk fat of Lithuanian black and white and Lithuanian red-spotted was less in comparison with Ayrshire cows. During all months of lactation most amount of protein was found in Lithuanian red-spotted and Ayrshire (3.69-3.68%), and least – in Lithuanian black... [to full text]

Holšteino veislės įtaka Lietuvos juodmargių karvių produktyvumui ir pieno sudėčiai / Influence on Holstein breed on the milk production and composition of black and white cows

Kačinskaitė-Žuvaitienė, Dovilė 19 April 2007 (has links)
The aim of Master work is to valuate Lithuanian black and white cows productivity and milk composition considering the blood dimensions of holstein breed. All data had been made through statistical analysis by EXCEL computation as well as by statistical package „R“ (http://www.r-project.org) in the LVA Laboratory of Animals Research of Breeding Worth and Selection. It was stated that the average of the Holsteinization grade of the researched cows in stock was 79,38 percent, and only 7,1 percent of the researched cows average of the Holsteinization grade didn’t reach 50 percent. Intermediate correlation between the milk productivity and milk protein was found an unfavourable but statistical reliable coherence (r=-0,346, p<0,001) The highest milk productivity was by cows with Holsteinization grade of 87,5-98,5 percent, the best milk fat consistence in percent 62,5-74,0 percent of Holsteinization grade cows, and the best milk protein consistence was by cows with Holsteinization grade reaching up to 50 percent. Having developed holsteinization grade in a stock, the percent of cows productivity was set the little statistical reliable coherence (r=0,224, p<0,01). The greatest number of somatic cells (532,7 thousand/ml.) was found in milk of cows which had the holsteinization grade to 50 and 50,0-62,4 percent.

Interracial rape and the appropriation of the 'White mask': a psychoanalytical reading of Lewis Nkosi's Mating birds

Fortuin, Bernard Nolen 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA (English))--University of Stellenbosch, 2009. / This thesis argues that Ndi Sibiya, fictional writer and protagonist of the novel, Mating Birds by Lewis Nkosi develops a pathological obsession with Veronica Slater, a white woman for whose rape Sibiya is about to be executed. One of the many theorists that have commented on the effects of race on sexuality, particularly in colonized black people is Frantz Fanon. In Black Skin White Masks Fanon asks a question based on Freud’s question, “What does a woman want?” Fanon’s question is different in that he asks, what do black people want, which opens the way for a post-colonial psychoanalytical analysis of Ndi Sibiya. What he is concerned with in Black Skin White Masks is a post-colonial psycho-analytical evaluation of the state of being black in colonial societies. Nkosi does the same in his novel, whereas he deals with Apartheid South Africa as an extension of colonialism. Nkosi and Fanon are both addressing the broader psychological impact racially oppressive societies have on the black person’s psyche. Fanon in his psychoanalytical study of the black man from within the Freudian framework aims to save the man of colour from himself (9) by giving black people a warning that is not much different from the warning Sibiya’s father gives to him: do not lust after the white man’s woman.

Selected Research Studies and Professional Literature Dealing with Physiological, Socioeconomic, Psychological, and Cultural Differences Between Black and White Males with Reference to the Performance of Athletic Skills

Bayless, Vaurice G. 05 1900 (has links)
This study was designed to accomplish an in-depth examination and documentary analysis of professional literature and scientific studies in order to identify and synthesize reported physiological, socioeconomic, psychological , and cultural differences between American black and white male athletes in the performance of selected athletic skills. The following major conclusions seem justifiable from the data which has been reported: 1) Physical differences impede or enhance athletic performance in certain athletic activities. 2) Social elements influences the choice and extent to which both races are involved in athletics. 3) Black male athletes have equal or stronger control of their emotions than white male athletes. 4) Culture and environment affect the development of traits in both races which contribute to their success in selected athletic skills. 5) How athletic skills are acquired accounts for the success both races experience in selected athletic skills. 6) A positive relationship exists between education and vocational aspiration and athletic success for white male athletes, but athletic success has independent consequences for facilitating higher levels of education for black male athletes. 7) black male athletes perform more successfully in reactive activities and white male athletes perform more skillfully in self-paces athletic activities.

"Střípky safari"- mozaikové obrazy, diptych / "Crocks of Safari"-mosaic images, a diptych

DOULÍKOVÁ, Radka January 2010 (has links)
My graduation thesis is called {\clq}qCrocks of Safari`` and it is divided into two main segments. The First part is theoretical which explains my inspiration, choice of theme and material, method of working - starting with design, ending with final artwork and its installation. It also considers the techniques of mosaic creation. It includes image documentation, which enriches and completes the text. The Second part is practical which includes its own graphic creation. That is two mosaic images made out of combined material {--} ceramics and glass (mirror) inserted into a metal frame. It features graphic structures and elements of an African fauna. It specifically interprets cut outs from herd of zebras and their typical stripes. My goal was to create abstract images where you can feel the character of used material and harmony of natural structures.
