A comprehensive reading of John 9: a socio-rhetorial perspective of discipleship in the Gospel of JohnMuderhwa, Barhatulirhwa Vincent 31 May 2008 (has links)
Chapter 9, interpreted in terms of its macro-micro structure, fits into the
overall literary and theological framework of the Book of Signs. The controversy
between Jesus and the Jewish leaders depicted in chapters 7-10 is taken up by
Chapter 9 in a particular manner.
This study employs the socio-rhetorical perspective to critically investigate
the notion of discipleship. It differs from previous studies as they were undertaken
from the historical, socio-scientific and narrative perspectives, and Robbins' sociorhetorical
methodology is applied to the Chapter 9 in order to dissect the notion of
discipleship as a theological problem. In Chapter 9, the blind man emerges as the
paradigm of the disciple as he exemplifies the principle of John 8.12.
The `Jews', concerned with their need both for self-definition and the
survival of Judaism, attempt to contain the growth of Christianity. The conflict is
conceived as a `conflict between darkness and light' and the healed man emerges as
a hero of the community. His triumph over darkness contrasts him with the Pharisees
who misguidedly follow the way of darkness and reject God's self-revelation. To
summarize, by applying for the first time a multidimensional and comprehensive
approach to John 9, three important characteristics of discipleship in the Fourth
Gospel emerge: (1) it is not just simple enthusiasm and zeal, but rather a firm
commitment, and strong and courageous determination to bear witness based upon
an experience of the divine. Disciples are required to maintain their readiness for
struggles, even death, for the sake of their faith; (2) discipleship is conceived as
redefining the believer's covenant relationship with God which takes place through
Jesus' identity and work. Therefore, the notion of `disciples of Moses' is no longer
defensible; (3) discipleship is nothing less than a `discipleship into light' since it
implies a duty to plead everywhere and always the cause of the Light in the sphere of
darkness and in the world dominated by many kinds of ideologies (religious, cultural,
political, etc.). The disciple must be prepared to be marginalized, not only by the
dominant society, but also by his/her own family and familiar world. / NEW TESTAMENT / DTH (NEW TESTAMENT)

Avaliação de usabilidade do sistema Dosvox na interação de cegos com a web / Usability evaluation of Dosvox system in the interaction of blind people with the webEdson Rufino de Souza 29 February 2008 (has links)
This report presents development and results of a research about usability of Dosvox, free system developed in the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and used by blind people in the performance of their tasks with the use of computers, including the interaction with the Web. Through exploratory research based on the observation of the interaction of blind students with the Web, usability problems were identified in the Dosvox interface and in the Webvox, that is a program which is part of the system and is used to access the electronic sites on the Web. While there has been
a major concern to develop the Dosvox with focus on novice users, structured interviews with the system developers discovered that the problems were related to the fact that
the interface is designed in accordance with the mental model of these Information Technology professionals. This fact hampers its use by people less accustomed to these concepts. In addition to these results, information found on observation of blind specialists in accessibility using Dosvox in the interaction with the Web was realized. After this observation, structured interviews were conducted, an other problems in the system were highlighted, added to proposals of usability improving to Dosvox.

Towards Building Cyber-Human Systems for Individuals with Visual ImpairmentJanuary 2016 (has links)
abstract: A lot of strides have been made in enabling technologies to aid individuals with visual impairment live an independent life. The advent of smart devices and participatory web has especially facilitated the possibility of new interactions to aide everyday tasks. Current systems however tend to be complex and require multiple cumbersome devices which invariably come with steep learning curves. Building new cyber-human systems with simple integrated interfaces while keeping in mind the specific requirements of the target users would help alleviate their mundane yet significant daily needs. Navigation is one such significant need that forms an integral part of everyday life and is one of the areas where individuals with visual impairment face the most discomfort. There is little technology out there to help travelers with navigating new routes. A number of research prototypes have been proposed but none of them are available to the general population. This may be due to the need for special equipment that needs expertise before deployment, or trained professionals needing to calibrate devices or because of the fact that the systems are just not scalable. Another area that needs assistance is the field of education. Lot of the classroom material and textbook material is not readily available in alternate formats for use. Another such area that requires attention is information delivery in the age of web 2.0. Popular websites like Facebook, Amazon, etc are designed with sighted people as target audience. While the mobile editions with their pared down versions make it easier to navigate with screen readers, the truth remains that there is still a long way to go in making such websites truly accessible. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Computer Science 2016

"Filled with the Gifts of God": The Holy Spirit as Agent of Virtue Formation in the Participatory Pneumatology of Didymus the BlindHedges, Zachary 02 January 2018 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the pneumatology of Didymus the Blind as expressed in
three of his writings: the Commentary on Genesis, the Commentary on Zechariah, and
On the Holy Spirit. It attends specifically to the relationship between this pneumatology
and Didymus’s concept of virtue formation. Chapters 1 and 2 provide a survey of the
state of Didymean scholarship and a sketch of his biography.
Chapter 3 identifies the concept of virtue formation that Didymus espouses in
the Commentary on Genesis and the Commentary on Zechariah, while chapter 4
describes the pneumatology of On the Holy Spirit.
Finally, chapter 5 draws together the observations of chapters 3 and 4 to
demonstrate their interconnectedness and to argue that the pneumatology which Didymus
constructs in On the Holy Spirit is, in fact, the underlying source of agency for the notion
of virtue formation that he develops in his commentaries on Genesis and Zechariah.
