SET/SÄTT

Andersson, Jesper O. T. January 2020 (has links)
A complementary text to the masters project SET/SÄTT that includes an exhibition and an image-based essay in the format of a bound artist book.  The physical essay is made up of several risograph printed pages depicting images of the components that that compose SET/SÄTT. The pages are bound together so that it folds out in the fashion of a map or a gift card. Although, the book folds out into a myriad of interconnecting folds that takes some time and careful planning to expose. Every edition of the physical essay is unique. / SET/SÄTT is a “plastic” sculpture, malleable and subject to its surroundings. It consists of a collection of components with the same prerequisites, but whose combination is continually restructured in relation to its environment. Materially the work consists of wooden sticks with accompanying joints that lock into each other using tension in the fiber. My method is inspired by practices such as shipbuilding, woodworking, video game design, concretism and nomadic esthetics with the ambition to create a tool. An instrument that allows the user to quickly and with ease draw up lines within a space, like a three dimensional form of sketching. During the master exhibition, a series of sculptures were constructed, reconstructed and deconstructed in between open hours.

RESTful Services in an Enterprise Environment : A Comparative Case Study of Specification Formats and HATEOAS / REST-tjänster i en enterprise-miljö : En jämförande fallstudie av specifikationsformat och HATEOAS

Wideberg, Robert January 2015 (has links)
RESTful services are becoming increasingly popular. This work, that was carried out at Scania IT, investigates how a RESTful service should be designed and specified so that it meets the demands of an enterprise environment. In particular, this report will focus on documentation and validation of RESTful services, i.e. specifications. These are important aspects in an enterprise environment. The investigation consists of a comparative case study of four specification formats and Hypermedia As The Engine Of Application State (HATEOAS). The results show that the most commonly used specification formats have flaws. They also suggest that Swagger and RAML (RESTful API Modeling Language) are the two most mature formats. The results also show that HATEOAS, which is a more dynamic approach, can be useful in an enterprise environment but that it requires careful design. Undersökningen består av en jämförande fallstudie med fyra specifikationsformat samt Hypermedia As The Engine Of Application State (HATEOAS).

The Representation of Culture : A Comparative Analysis of Cultural Representation in Swedish EFL Coursebooks

Calais, Linus January 2021 (has links)
The overall aim of this study is to analyse the cultural representation in fictional texts in three English as a Foreign Language (EFL) coursebooks written for the English 5 course in Swedish upper secondary school. The three coursebooks are Blueprint A 3.0, Pick & Mix 1, and Solid Gold 1. The study was conducted in order to compare and discuss the portrayal and representation of cultures of the English-speaking world. The method used consists of a combination of the two-stage model constructed by McDonough et al. (2013) and a qualitative content analysis. The three coursebooks were analysed through the theoretical framework of postcolonial theory. The results show that American culture is represented to a higher extent than any other culture in the included fictional works. Because of the discrepancy in representation, American culture was portrayed through various societal issues, living conditions, and cultural features. However, many other cultures of the English-speaking world were barely represented at all. Furthermore, the results show that cultures such as Indian or Irish are not included in all the coursebooks. The lack of fictional texts representing cultures of Africa included in the coursebooks further shows the discrepancy and specific focus on certain parts of the English-speaking world. Solid Gold 1 was the only one of the three coursebooks which included fictional texts discussing all cultures highlighted. Although there is a notable difference in the representation of cultures, and the number of times certain cultures are mentioned, the analysis shows that the coursebooks create many opportunities, through fictional texts, for students to learn about societal issues, cultural features, and living conditions in parts of the world where English is used, meeting the requirements of the Swedish curriculum.

Illustration of Design of Digital Water Quality Monitoring Services for Smart Cities

Chirappanath, Meenu Joy January 2021 (has links)
Water quality monitoring is vital in smart city planning for managing water resources. In the smart city, more data is being collected. In terms of data related to water quality, many data sources such as smart sensors attached to water quality monitoring systems have been continuously collecting a significant amount of data. The potential of collected data from these sources holds no value for smart cities, unless it is being used to provide digital services such as information about clean and safe drinking water, swimming, fishing, domestic uses, and water reuse. However, the knowledge on how to utilize water quality data for the benefits of smart cities is limited. So, in this paper, I propose digital water quality monitoring services for smart city residents. I explore this proposition through a design study engaging smart city residents, service designers, and developers of water quality monitoring systems. As a result, a service blueprint is presented to illustrate how such services can be designed to provide water quality information for different activities. The study aims to illustrate how opportunities of water quality monitoring system can be explored for smart cities. The study intends that the results are helpful to designers and researchers in designing and developing digital water quality monitoring services in smart cities.

Recollections: An Internal Analysis of Memory and Perception

Jimenez, Samuel 01 January 2014 (has links)
I investigate the depths of memory, the entanglement of personal recollections with communal knowledge (learned semantic information from media and society such as facts and social norms) and the changing perceptions of environments over time. Memories define us. Throughout life we are exposed to vast quantities of imagery through a variety of media and personal experiences. Over time our firsthand experiences and what we witness in film, print, photography, and the internet become indistinguishable in our memory. My work recreates consequential scenes from my past through technical drawings and blended imagery while exploring the possibilities provided by the interaction of common knowledge and the ambiguous nature of memory.

Användargenererad data i tjänstedesignprocessen / User generated data in a Service Design process

Dahlqvist, Thea January 2013 (has links)
The goal of the study is to find out how three different innovative techniques can be used to collect user experience in a service design process. This is carried out using a design case regarding the user experience of the Norrkoping’s Symphony Orchestras (SON) concerts. This is a symphony orchestra that has experienced increasing difficulty in attracting more visitors, and new methods are needed to tackle the problem. Therefore, in this study mobile ethnography and innovative methods will be used. There were 20 participants in the study, including a mix of people who regularly attend SON-concerts and those who do not. The participant’s task in this study was to attend two of SON-concerts and document their experience using three different innovative techniques: Probe, smartphone application and automatic camera. The result of the study shows that the probe gave a much more detailed look into the participants’ view of the concert experience, and contributed in widening the focus of the service design process. The application gave a more detailed information in real-time, on sight. The automatic camera gave a more detailed flow, automatically on sight, of the concert experience. That may show certain patterns and behaviors of the participants linked to the concert experience. The study shows that the three innovative techniques puts focus on the user throughout the entire service design process, which is the foundation for working user-centered. If the techniques are used in combination they become more effective as they complete each other in a service design process.

[pt] DESIGN PARA APOIO A TOMADA DE DECISÃO DO CIDADÃO PARA A GERAÇÃO DISTRIBUÍDA COM ENERGIA SOLAR FOTOVOLTAICAN / [en] DESIGN TO SUPPORT CITIZEN DECISION-MAKING FOR DISTRIBUTED GENERATION WITH PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR ENERGY

MARCIA CHRISTINA BORGES FERNANDES 23 May 2023 (has links)
[en] The use of photovoltaic solar energy as a source for the generation/consumption of electric energy brings benefits from different perspectives, from financial perspectives to encouraging job creation, including environmental issues. Even so, there is still no broad engagement of citizens for solar generation in their homes due to the innovative nature of the product-service, which leaves people with doubts. Given this situation, we proposed the specification of a decision-making support service for joining the Photovoltaic Distributed Generation (GDFV). The design to support citizen decision-making for the GDFV must consider the various reasons that influence people s decision. The attributes that influence citizens in the decision-making process was the object of study. As a methodology, we carried out documentary and bibliographic research on the context of DG in some countries and the state of the art in Brazil, we discussed the new meaning that distributed generation brought to the energy scenario from the management of innovation and mainly through Design Drive-Innovation. (VERGANTI, 2012). We conducted semi-structured exploratory interviews and applied a questionnaire to expand the list of influencing attributes in a nonprobabilistic convenience sample. The results allowed us to build a Map of Attributes, which are the key factors in the decision-making process. We use a series of Service Design techniques to model a decision support service (SATD). Anchored in a web platform, the SATD will allow the union of supply and demand based on a self-diagnosis of the citizen, leading him to the business model that is most adhering to his profile.

A Mechanism of Praxis: An Explication on Fredric Jameson¡¦s Utopian Thinking

Chien-fu, Jeff 03 February 2004 (has links)
This thesis is meant to give an explication on Fredric Jameson¡¦s Utopian thinking through transcoding, establishing homologies between Lacan¡¦s Imaginary/Symbolic/Real registers, Althusser¡¦s ideology/History binary and Jameson¡¦s ideology/cognitive mapping/History orders. I think Jameson¡¦s Utopian thinking is a mechanism of praxis to induce change for a classless and human-friendly society through theoretical education on desire and formation of consciousness of the capitalistic alienation and exploitation. It is a process of signifying, with no signified. It aims at the construction of a map of the social totality, not at that of an imaginary blueprint. It stresses consciousness-raising, not goal achievement. Traditionally, Utopia features an imaginary blueprint. Nevertheless, for Jameson, the Utopian blueprint is problematic in that it is ideologically enclosed so that it is far from qualified to serve as the goal of praxis. At best, a Utopian blueprint can only be viewed as a ¡§figure¡¨ waiting for the interpretation of theory, or to put it psychoanalytically, it is a symptom of the (political) unconscious awaiting the diagnosis of a psychoanalyst. But Jameson does endorse Utopists¡¦ ¡§Utopian praxis¡¨ to map and criticize their respective social context. The critic applies the practice to the postmodern, in which time is spatialized and the individual is fragmented and deprived of the ability to think historically and to imagine an alternative future. Jameson proposes the approach of ¡§cognitive mapping¡¨ to help people to obtain a map of the postmodern hyperspace, to locate their positions in it, and to finally reconstruct in them class consciousness, which Jameson believes is the basis of praxis for a Utopia. This task has to be done through the construction of the collective subject, because of the death of the subject and the growing abstraction of postmodern hyperspace. And certainly in this undertaking, Marxist critics like Jameson play an important role. They, like a psychoanalyst, are entitled to diagnose and interpret what the current world is suffering from and to offer prescriptions. In conclusion, Fredric Jameson¡¦s Utopian thinking is a persistent process of praxis at present to form collective consciousness and subjectivity in the hope of an unspecified Utopia in the future, which is supposed to be a communist one.
