O presente trabalho de doutorado se propôs a observar a encenação do ato da leitura na obra Bouvard et Pécuchet, de Gustave Flaubert. É o resultado direto de nosso trabalho de mestrado, no qual investigamos sobre a questão da escritura, para que pudéssemos chegar à leitura. Para tanto, contamos não somente com a obra em questão, mas recorremos também a outras obras do autor e à sua correspondência, material vasto para analisar um pouco do que poderia ser Flaubert escritor, autor e leitor, a fim de buscar perceber que as instâncias de autoria e leitura já pareciam estar diluídas no autor francês. Primeiramente, lemos Flaubert e sua obra à luz da estética da recepção, buscando analisar a questão da leitura como efeito. Em seguida, buscamos observar que a leitura estaria mais para um procedimento, e não um efeito, por isso nos valemos dos estudos de Marielle Macé e Jacques Rancière a fim de observar a leitura como uma figura. Por fim, em muito usamos José-Luis Diaz e seus estudos sobre as cenografias autorais românticas com a intenção de propormos uma cenografia de leitura também e como Bouvard et Pécuchet e, em dada medida, Flaubert também, acabam por encenar a figura \"leitura\". / This Doctoral Thesis aims to observe the staging of the reading act in the Gustave Flauberts Bouvard and Pécuchet. It is the direct result of my Master Dissertation, in which I investigated the problems of writing, so that I could reach the reading. For this, I rely not only on the Bouvard and Pécuchet, but also on other Flauberts works and correspondence, a vast material to analyse a little of what Flaubert could be as a writer, an author, and a reader, in order to note that both authorship and reading instances seemed to be already diluted in the French writer. First, I read Flaubert and his work in the light of the Reception Aesthetics, seeking to analyse the problem of reading as an effect. Second, I observed that the reading would be more for a procedure, and not an effect, so I based on Marielle Macés and Jacques Rancières works, in order to observe reading as a figure. Finally, I based on José-Luis Diaz studies on romantic author scenography aiming at proposing a reading scenography too, and how Bouvard and Pécuchet and, to a certain extent, Flaubert as well, end up staging the \"reading\" figure.

O presente trabalho se propôs observar o espaço de escrita e a preocupação constante com a linguagem que se tornam elementos de relevância na leitura de Bouvard et Pécuchet, de Gustave Flaubert; tudo isso com a intenção de iniciar uma discussão acerca do espaço e das problemáticas de leitura promovidos pela obra. Para tanto, o primeiro capítulo foi dedicado a observar o texto de Flaubert como uma escritura, procurando analisar os questionamentos suscitados por isso, como a problemática da representabilidade, da linguagem, do clichê e da biblioteca, passando pela morte do autor e pela do livro. No segundo capítulo, por sua vez, a análise ficou em torno da questão da repetição, retomando o conceito de mise-en-abyme e acrescentando a ele a tensão entre repetição e diferença. A partir dessa tensão, pudemos ampliar o debate relativo ao clichê, à biblioteca, à linguagem, bem como trabalhar a questão da bêtise, do conhecimento e da problemática duplicação dos personagens. Por fim, todas essas discussões culminaram, no último capítulo, no levantamento de problemáticas acerca do espaço do leitor na obra. / This work aimed to observe the writing space and constant preoccupation with language elements that become relevant in the reading of Bouvard et Pécuchet, by Gustave Flaubert, intending to start a discussion on the problems of space and reading created by the book. Therefore, the first chapter intended to observe the text of Flaubert as a writing, tried to analyze the questions raised by this, as the problem of representability, language, the cliché and the library, analyzing as well the death of the author and the book . In the second chapter, in turn, there was the analysis of the issue of repetition and, in order to discuss this topic, we used the concept of mise-en-abyme and added to it the tension between repetition and difference. From this tension, we extended the debate over the cliché, library, language, as well as the issue of bêtise work, knowledge and problem duplication of characters. Finally, all these discussions culminated, in the last chapter, in raising issues about the space of the reader in Flauberts novel.

Nous traitons des écrits dans le roman flaubertien, en nous intéressant en particulier aux trois romans de Gustave Flaubert : Madame Bovary, L’Éducation sentimentale et Bouvard et Pécuchet. Cela nous conduit à examiner différents types d’écrits circulant dans ces œuvres. Ceux-ci sont très variés et peuvent aller de la lettre à l’affiche, en passant par les journaux, les dictionnaires, et la littérature bien sûr, tout autant de supports qu’il existe de fonctions et d’enjeux. Au XIXe siècle, l’écrit occupe une place croissante dans la société et dans les œuvres littéraires, notamment dans le roman réaliste balzacien où les billets mondains circulent en transmettant des codes sociaux. Mais les lettres et les œuvres y sont aussi introduites abondamment et peuvent être lues de manière polysémique mais toujours signifiante. Ces choix vont de pair avec le développement de l’écrit au XIXe, par le biais notamment des journaux et de l’avènement du roman-feuilleton. Les écrits peuvent d’abord être distingués selon leur visée utilitaire ou esthétique, ils sont très nombreux dans le roman flaubertien et revêtent de multiples fonctions comme celle consistant à mettre en relief ce qui est visuel, faisant naître une forme de théâtre par la graphie. Puis, ils peuvent aussi transmettre la voix officielle, comme lors de faits juridiques à valeur à la fois référentielle et romanesque. Leur statut est parfois même historique, surtout dans L’Éducation sentimentale où résonnent les événements révolutionnaires de 1848 qui ont marqué l’époque, mais cette polyphonie présente le plus souvent un enjeu métatextuel en transmettant la voix du romancier dans une mise en abyme ; donner à voir ou à lire l’écrit serait sans doute pour lui aussi un moyen de se représenter en tant qu’auteur ou peut-être aussi, à l’opposé, de se distinguer de tous les écrits utilitaires qui caractérisent cette nouvelle société démocratique. / We are dealing with the writings in Flaubert’s novels, especially in the three following novels : Madame Bovary, L’Éducation sentimentale and Bouvard et Pécuchet. There are different types of writings in those works ; indeed they are varied and they can be a letter, a poster, a newspaper or even a dictionary, they are as varied as the numerous functions and issues that exist. In the nineteenth century, writing had an increasing part in society and literary works, especially in the realist novels by Balzac in which social notes were spread passing social codes. But letters and works were also abundantly introduced and could be read in different but always significant ways. Those choices went hand in hand with the development of writings in the nineteenth century thanks to newspaper and the advent of serials. Writings can be first distinguished according to their useful or aesthetic goal ; they are numerous in Flaubert’s novels and have several functions as the one which underlines what’s visual, making appear a kind of play thanks to the written form. Then they can also spread the official voice as in legal facts that have both a fictional and reference value. Their status is even sometimes historical, mainly in L’Éducation sentimentale in which the 1848 revolutionary events resonate ; but this polyphonic narrative often shows what’s at stake, delivering the novelist’s voice in a mise en abyme ; seeing or reading what is written could also be a mean to introduce himself as an author, but also maybe, on the contrary, to distinguish himself from the useful writing that characterized that new democratic society.

Os romances Bouvard et Pécuchet (1881), de Gustave Flaubert, e La Vie mode demploi (1978), de Georges Perec, são lidos, nesta dissertação, a partir do tema da biblioteca, que se desdobra (assim como essas obras) em três vias que se entrecruzam: virtual, imaginária e real. As bibliotecas virtuais são construídas a partir de diversos registros e referências intertextuais deixadas por escritores em anotações, cadernos, correspondência, etc., que são tomadas como documentos da gênese de sua escrita. Já as bibliotecas imaginárias são aquelas tematizadas nos livros, ou seja, são encontradas em obras que ficcionalizam o espaço e a dinâmica das bibliotecas. As bibliotecas reais dos escritores, por sua vez, são formadas por volumes que fizeram parte de seu acervo pessoal. Esta pesquisa propõe refletir sobre as práticas de leitura e escrita de Georges Perec e Gustave Flaubert paralelamente à análise das obras La Vie mode demploi e Bouvard et Pécuchet. Essa reflexão resulta da observação de alguns vestígios de suas bibliotecas virtuais e reais e das relações entre aquelas três faces da biblioteca. Nesse sentido, esta dissertação pretende apresentar diversos arranjos que as múltiplas peças dessa biblioteca caleidoscópica podem formar. / In this dissertation, Gustave Flauberts Bouvard and Pécuchet (1881) and Georges Perecs Life a users manual (1978) are analyzed through the theme of the library, a theme that has (such as in the novels) three dimensions which interconnect: a virtual, a real and an imaginary one. The virtual dimension of the library is formed by the intertextual references and notes left by the writers in their writing process documents such as their notebooks and letters. The imaginary dimension of the library takes the form of the figuration of the library in the books that fictionalize the space and the dynamics of the library. Finally, the real dimension of the library takes the form of the books that were part of the writers personal libraries. Because of these three dimensions, this dissertation not only analyses the text of novels but also reflects about Perecs and Flauberts writing and reading practices. This is possible through the observation of the traces of the virtual and the real dimensions of the library and through the interconnection of three dimensions mentioned. In this sense, this dissertation aims at presenting some of the various arrangements that can be formed by the multiple pieces of this kaleidoscopic theme.
