Assim, perceber, através dos testamentos do período de 1800-1850, os espaços, papéis e encargos das mulheres e escravos na transmissão de bens. As mulheres que assumiam a manutenção do lar desempenhavam funções culturalmente masculinas e, sozinhas, passavam a prover o lar na parte econômica e educacional de suas famílias. Outro enfoque de análise refere-se à presença dos cativos nos testamentos, o que é imprescindível para esboçar um panorama do valor econômico e social dos escravos. Também, é importante compreender as diversas utilizações dos escravos para os senhores no ato da confecção do testamento. Desta forma, se procura elucidar quais critérios eram utilizados para a descrição dos bens (escravos), abordando as concessões de liberdade feitas através dos testamentos. Faz-se relevante abordar a dinâmica que envolveu homens e mulheres durante o fazer de seus testamentos. Este estudo possibilita reverberar sobre o cotidiano dos moradores da cidade de Belém do Grão-Pará e suas últimas disposições durante o ato de testar. / The present dissertation is intended to investigate the strategies of women, slaves, former slaves and free men, considering the configuration of patrimony and home maintenance, in view of the distribution of goods in the city of Belém do Grão Pará (Belém of the Great Pará), in the first half of the 19th century and 2 thus, to perceive women and slave‟s spaces, roles and duties for the sake of good‟s inheritance, by means of wills (testaments) made during the 1800-1850 period. Women, who were charged of managing a home, would essentially perform a man‟s function, and they were the only ones who provided for the family‟s economy and ‘education at home. Other focus of the analysis refers to the presence of the captives on the wills (testaments), which is something to be considered, when it comes to drawing an outline of the slaves‟ economic and social value. It‟s also of major importance to understand the various ways slaves were used by their masters in the preparation of the will. Thus, an effort is made to elucidate the criteria employed for the description of the goods (slaves), with some focus on the liberty concessions made by means of the wills. It‟s equally relevant to approach the dynamics involving men and women during their will‟s making process. This study gives way to a reverberation over the routine of Belém do Grão Para‟s inhabitants, and their final arrangements during the act of making a will.

Além dessas festas, destacam-se nessa abordagem os banquetes, reuniões políticas promovidas pela elite da época. Essa pesquisa apresentou-se como possibilidade a ser trabalhada, uma vez que partindo de outro enfoque, serão discutidas as idéias, os personagens, os discursos, as intrigas e as alianças que estiveram presentes nesse período político marcante da história regional e nacional a partir dessas comemorações. / This paper is intended to discuss the establishment of a symbolic power by the Republic in the state of Pará in its early years (1890-1911), focusing events such as change of some street names to honor new administration members and the creation of a new calendar to mark Republican special dates like November 15th, when the Republic was nationally proclaimed and November 16th, when it was acclaimed in Pará. The main purpose here is to study the meaning of those changes, the organization and, above all, to understand how they were used to strengthen the new regime at the heart of local society. The present study examines not only those commemorative dates, but also the frequent political gatherings, called banquets, held by elite citizens. This research was judged worth taking, because it allows a new approach to discuss the ideas, characters, speeches, plots, and alliances performed in this decisive political period of local and national history.

Identificar as relações sociais construídas nestes ambientes domésticos, investigados através do uso e consumo de objetos encontrados nos inventários post mortem, jornais, relatos de viajantes e outras documentações. Apontar a trajetória das influências que sofreram os ambientes domésticos, incorporando ou produzindo suas próprias relações com o espaço de habitação é uma tarefa que procuro discutir. Os sentidos de domesticidade permeados pela relativa noção de privacidade e ao limitado acesso ao consumo de bens materiais são possibilidades que emergem ao longo do estudo. É neste conjunto que investigo o significado que as noções de conforto, praticidade são projetados nos mobiliários domésticos, e com isto, ler como o habitante urbano representava essas sensibilidades diante do local de residência nesta capital paraense em meados do século XIX. / This dissertation has the concern in studying the urban homes of Belém in the first half of the century XIX. To identify the social relationships built in these domestic atmospheres, investigated through the use and consumption of objects found in the inventories post mortem, newspapers, travelers' reports and other documentations. To point the path of the influences that suffered the domestic atmospheres, incorporating or producing their own relationships with the house space is a task that I try to discuss. The domesticidade senses permeated by the relative notion of privacy and to the limited access to the consumption of goods materials are possibilities that emerge along the study. It is in this group that I investigate the meaning that the comfort notions, praticidade are projected in the domestic furnitures, and with this to read as the urban inhabitant represented those sensibilities before the residence place in this capital paraense in the middle of the century XIX.

As mudanças e permanências na forma de morar se fazia presente no discurso do poder público que paulatinamente com o discurso pautado na higiene buscou inserir práticas no cotidiano que interferiram nos interiores das residências e nas ações dos seus moradores. Pretendemos acompanhar os moradores no interior de suas residências, observando a chegada de objetos e hábitos que estavam pautados no conceito de civilização divulgada pelo Estado republicano. Assim nos propomos a observar as notícias da economia paraense e seu crescimento no setor da produção de móveis e os sujeitos que estavam atrelados ao consumo destes objetos, conhecendo os lugares de venda e compra de utensílios domésticos e suas formas de divulgação. Tentamos analisar a uso social dos objetos nos cômodos das residências e as transformações que estes provocaram entre seus usuários ao apresentarem vínculos entre vida material e práticas culturais. / The material life in the city of Belém is the stage of the analysis of this work, that seek to understand the social, economic and cultural relations through the universe of the homes and the objects of wealthy families between 1920-1945. Changes and permanences in the manners of living was present on the public power discourse, that gradually with a speech based on the hygiene sought to enter in the daily practices of its residents, which interfered in their actions and in the interiors of homes. We intend to accompany the residents within their homes, noting the arrival of objects and habits that were lined on the concept of civilization disclosed by the Republican State. So we intend to observe the news of the economy of Pará and its growth in the furnishings production section and the subjects which were coupled with the consumption of these objects, knowing the place of sale and purchase of household utensils and their disclosure forms. We try to analyze the social use of objects in the rooms of homes and the transformations among its users to submit links between material life and cultural practices.

A pesquisa teve como propósito analisar as contribuições produzidas nesse processo, que projetaram elementos de resistência e organização social por parte dos moradores daquele lugar. Utilizamos prioritariamente fontes jornalísticas e entrevistas com lideranças. Durante a década de oitenta, acontecimentos políticos agitaram o país, promovidos pelo retorno das multidões às praças e colocaram na ordem do dia um conjunto de demandas sociais, dentre as quais a reforma urbana. Em Belém, o Movimento de Titulação e Urbanização da Área do Tucunduba – MOTUAT, tornou-se uma das referências sociais ao tornar-se representante das reivindicações populares na luta pelo direito de morar em terras consideradas da Universidade Federal do Pará - UFPA. / The dissertation examines the struggle for housing developed in the area Tucunduba River Watershed, specifically in the Terra Firme between the years 1979 to 1994. The research aimed to analyze the contributions produced in the process, they designed for resistance and social organization by the residents of that place. We use primarily journalistic sources and interviews with leaders. During the eighties, political events shook the country, promoted by the return of the crowds to the squares and put in a headline set of social demands, among which the urban reform. In Belém, the Movement and Titling of Urban Area Tucunduba - MOTUAT, became one of the social references to become representative of popular demands in the fight for the right to live on land considered at the Federal University of Pará - UFPA.

A linguagem visual desta dissertação permite mostrar a forma como os indivíduos se fizeram representar nos cenários urbanos, dando visibilidade aos tipos sociais que foram flagrados sutilmente pelas câmeras fotográficas a serviço da propaganda do governo que tinha por objetivo divulgar uma cidade moderna, revelando a intensidade e a rapidez com que desejava alcançar a modernidade, ao mesmo tempo em que traz a luz uma cidade de acordo com os modelos provenientes da Europa, percebe-se o registro de uma outra cidade que nos remete a espaços de convivência de diferentes realidades. A imagem fotográfica, assim como outras fontes e objetos visuais, constitui-se em importantes instrumentos de investigação histórica para identificar novos objetos e novos problemas. A contribuição deste estudo se ancora no uso da fotografia como principal documento de análise para produção historiográfica, entendendo que a fotografia representa um testemunho que “fala” do passado na intensidade que o historiador a questiona. Este estudo busca analisar a relação entre fotografia e cidade a partir da narrativa visual dos álbuns e relatórios de Belém que foram produzidos no período de 1898 a 1908. A interpretação dos álbuns, enquanto narrativa que visualiza uma cidade moderna, constituí-se em uma das estratégias metodológicas para abordagem do uso da fotografia como documento para o historiador, considerando que nesse tipo de documentação pode mostrar dados dispersos ou mesmo silenciados por outras fontes de pesquisas. / Paisagens Urbanas: fotografia e modernidade na cidade de Belém (1846-1908) considers a quarrel on the photographic documents that served of instruments of propaganda of the governing in the last decade of century XIX and in the beginning of century XX. The documentary of this study show the form as the individuals if they had made to represent in the urban scenes, giving visibility to the social types that had been photographed subtle by the cameras the service of the propaganda of the government. Objective to divulge a city modern, disclosing the intensity and the rapidity with that it desired to reach modernity, at the same time where a modern city brings the light in accordance with the models proceeding from the Europe, the register of a other city is perceived that in it sends the spaces of connivance of different realities. The photographic image, as well as other visual sources and objects, consists in important instruments of historical inquiry to identify to new objects and new problems. The contribution of this study if anchors in the use of the photograph as main document of analysis for historiography production, understanding that the photograph represents a certification that "speaks" of the past in the intensity that the historian questions it. This study it search to analyze the relation between photograph and city from the visual narrative of the albums and reports of Belém that had been produced in the period of 1898 the 1908. The interpretation of the albums, while narrative that visualizes a city modern, I consisted in one of the methodological strategies for boarding of the use of the photograph as document for the historian, considering that in this type of documentation it can show given dispersed or exactly silenced for other sources of research.

Nesse sentido, parte-se da perspectiva de uma história social, regional em direção a local, sem as desvincular de um contexto mais amplo, visto que os processos históricos estão inter-relacionados. Dessa maneira, fez-se o recorte temporal 1974-2004, pois assim, tem-se a possibilidade de percorrer a história da ocupação, a luta pela terra e pela vida e o modo de produção familiar estabelecido nestes Projetos de Assentamento antes e após a inserção de investimentos públicos na área, bem como a relação que os produtores familiares estabeleceram com a natureza ao longo das décadas. / The subject of this dissertation are the Assentment Projects Expedito Ribeiro and Vale da Serra, localized in the city of Rio Maria, southest of Pará, establisheds by Instituto Nacional de Colonização e Reforma Agrária (INCRA) some decades after the begin of migratory proccess to this region, proccess marked by unequal occupation of lands that brought in itself the fight and the challenge by the land between invasors and farmers and/or businessmen. In this way, start it from the perspective of a social history, regional in direction to local, linking this to bigger context, because the historical proccess are inter-relationed. So, made a time recort (1974-2004), because of this way there is the possibility of to walk by the occupation history, the fight by the land and by the life, and the way of familiar production established in these Assentment Projects before and after the insertion of public investiments in this area, and the relation that the familiar productors established with the nature during these decades.

Através da descrição física e política da província paraense, Antônio Baena forneceu dados estatísticos de uso político para o Império brasileiro. O escritor e militar Baena, a serviço do Império, viveu e escreveu em um momento ímpar para o Brasil e para o antigo Grão-Pará. Sua obra reúne e traduz uma série de dados que ajudarão a compor a tensa ligação entre as províncias do norte com as do sul do Brasil. É a partir de sua obra intitulada Ensaio Corográfico sobre a Província do Pará, publicada em 1839, que o presente estudo envereda pela escrita comprometida do autor e dos seus principais apontamentos sobre a riqueza em potencial da província, embasada na variedade e na virtude de seus produtos naturais. Ademais, a análise atenta para outras produções de Antônio Baena, cujo tema principal era a província do Pará, constantes na Revista do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro e publicadas no cenário imperial. Estas produções acabam por inserir-se nos debates do referido Instituto e no contexto de formação política do Império brasileiro. / The aim of this dissertation is to analyse the corpus of the portuguese writer Antônio Ladislau Monteiro Baena as well as his military work in the Province of Pará in the first decades of Nineteenth Century. Through physical and political description of the Pará‟s Province, Antônio Baena provided statistic data of political use for the Brazilian Empire. The writer and military man Baena, working for the Empire, lived and wrote in a singular moment in Brazil and the old Grão Pará. His writings gather together a great amount of information wich will help to explain the tense connection between the provinces of North and South Brazil. Starting with his book Ensaio Corográfico sobre a Província do Pará, published in 1839, our study tries to show the author‟s political agenda as well as the main considerations about the potential wealth of the province, based in the variety and qualities of its natural products. Furthermore, this analyse deals with other works of Baena, whose principal theme was the Province of Pará, inputed in the Review of Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute and published in the imperial era. The articles in the Review end up being part of the debates of the Institute aforementioned, during the period of political definition of the Brazilian Empire.

Esta dissertação compreende uma análise da atividade açucareira no Estado do Maranhão na primeira metade do século XVIII, com a finalidade de compreender a importância do açúcar nas Capitanias do Pará e Maranhão, onde a atividade foi intensamente praticada ao longo do período colonial. Ancorado firmemente na documentação manuscrita e relatos do período, buscou-se identificar os significados do açúcar nesta região – que não eram puramente econômicos – a fim de explicar a continuidade da atividade açucareira na região em meio a problemas característicos de sua historia dentre os quais pode-se destacar a falta de escravos, ataques indígenas, inexistência de moeda metálica, entre outros. / The sugar cane activity in the State of Maranhão and Grão-Pará, instead of been barely treated for the Brazilian historiography, shows some peculiarities. This thesis pretends to analyze the sugar cane activity in the State in the first half of 18th century and intent to understand the importance of sugar in the region, where this activity was intensely practiced in the called “Brazil Colonial History”. Working with the manuscripts and other documents produced in the period, this thesis intent to identify the meanings of the sugar in this particularly region – not only economic meanings – with the purpose to explain the continuity of the sugar cane activity behalf characteristics problems of it history, like the leak of slaves, Indian attacks, inexistence of metallic coin, etc.

Tem como foco o período em que o grupo liderado por Antonio Lemos conseguiu estabelecer seu domínio oligárquico e busca-se compreender o processo de estabelecimento dessa oligarquia por meio das alianças estabelecidas entre Lemos e os intendentes interioranos, os quais enfrentaram forte oposição não apenas na arena político-partidária, mas também em contendas marcada por forte conteúdo simbólico. / The present dissertation discusses the political disputes between partisans of two political leaders from Pará, in the beginning of the (Brazilian) Republic. They’re Antonio Lemos and Lauro Sodré, and their followers are called ‘lemistas’ and ‘lauristas’, respectively. This text refers to a period in which the group led by Antonio Lemos came to set its oligarchic domination. It’s an effort to understand the process through which this oligarchy was established, by means of alliances formed between Lemos and the countryside mayors*6. This group that has faced up to strong opposition, not only within the political-partidary scenery , but also in confrontation that evidences a strong symbolic contents.
