The North House as Component Based Architecture

Doesburg, Chloe 17 February 2010 (has links)
The North House is a proof-of-concept prefabricated solar powered home designed for northern climates, and intended for the research and promotion of high-performance sustainable architecture. Led by faculty at the University of Waterloo, the development and design of the project involved a broad collaboration between faculty and students at the University of Waterloo, with Ryerson University and Simon Fraser University. The North House prototype competed in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon in October of 2009. This thesis identifies the North House as a component-based building. It illustrates in detail the components of which the house is composed, the sequence by which they are assembled, and the details that allow for the building’s rapid assembly and disassembly. Finally, the thesis explores the possibilities afforded by componentbased architecture including adaptability, off-site fabrication and demountability. Drawing on this, the thesis projects future ways of designing buildings sustainable to both manufacture and operate.

Perceptions of Wooden Multifamily Houses : Applying an Extended Association Pattern Technique

Schauerte, Tobias January 2006 (has links)
<p>During the past years, wooden one and two family houses showed a higher growth rate on the German construction market compared to conventional material like brick and stone. Wood as construction material became more and more attractive. Furthermore, a growing demand on multifamily houses could be recognized, yet, wood has not been considered as an alternative in this field of application until now. Trying to understand the end-users attitudes towards wooden multifamily houses, this licentiate thesis aims at exploring German end-users’ perceptions of wooden multifamily houses.</p><p>To collect the necessary data, the Association Pattern Technique (APT) was applied, which is a two-stage method and has its foundations in the Means-End theory. In the first stage, 31 in-depth laddering interviews were carried out, which served as the base for the matrix-survey in the second stage, where 229 answers were received. Extending the existing method in the matrix-survey stage allowed for important additional data to be uncovered.</p><p>The results show that individuals associate certain product attributes with wooden multifamily houses and that these attributes are thought to entail specific consequences. These consequences are in turn linked with the personal values of the respondents. The most dominant perceptual orientations of different groups of respondents are shown and significant differences could be found in how individuals in German perceive wooden multifamily houses depending on age, income and habitation.</p>

Araújo, Renan Bandeirante de. January 2009 (has links)
The above-mentioned process caused the emergence of a labor segment, or rather, the flexible young man / adult, featuring a new historical, social and professional profile. Actually it is a new set of 'collaborators' within the 15-35-year-old bracket, whose just-in-time life style, proper of the metalworking section hailing from production restructuring, is related to the bonding strategies of worker subjectivity. This fact is brought about by the personnel's new management/coercion styles which looks beyond the factory environment and reveals the new life style of capital's productive and social metabolism in a period of flexible labor / Doutor

The present human development has been proven wrong by its aggressive means on the environment and to the society. The global population growth, the industrialization and the edifications grown too, to meet the demand, interfering directly in the environment. Next chapter deals with building a data warehouse upon company data, multidimensional cubes and user-defined reports with measured values interpretation. Contribution of the thesis consists in the enterprise management model upon BSC concept which helps specify strategic goals and also the design of BI implementation which should simplify monitoring of these strategic goals by the help of the metrics specified. Another contribution for building industry enterprise management can be an overview of main BI technologies and the ways and means of its practical application.

Modelování vývoje cen u dodávané stavební produce v krizovém období / PRICE MODELING OF BUILDING PRODUCTION IN THE CRISIS PERIOD

Truska, Adam Unknown Date (has links)
The largest post-war economic crisis, which began spreading to the world in the second half of 2008, hit all sectors negatively. An important lesson from the analysis of the crisis is not its causes, but rather the reference to the drawbacks of globalization, in the form of dismantling the consequences of this crisis. Building industry is a specific branch of the Czech economy, which has responded to the outbreak, the course and the retreat of crisis, in a unique way. Both pre-investment and investment phases of a construction project are time-consuming, resulting in a delayed response - inertia, to changes in the state of the economy that are reflected in aggregate demand from which demand for construction output is derived. The thesis focuses mainly on the development market, where it focuses in detail on evolution of housing construction in the pre-crisis, crisis and post-crisis period. The set of incorrect steps, decisions and inactivity of residential developers caused a unique phenomenon - the house-offer crisis. Therefore, the result of the work is methodological recommendations - a set of steps whose observation should reduce the negative effects of the crisis on the construction industry and avoid the re-emergence of the house-offer crisis. Economic cycles give us two assurances: each growth is followed by fall and vice versa. Nowadays it is not possible to predict the causes of the future crisis or its length, but it is important to prepare for it.

Zjišťování a specifikace víceprací a méněprací u stavebních dodávek a prací / Determined and Specification of Auxiliary Work in Construction Supplies and Work

Levstek (Bradáčová), Šárka January 2010 (has links)
The thesis deals with extra work and unrealized work that originate at construction projects and further on during realizing the construction, both at new constructions, and at reconstructions and other construction activities. It mainly focuses on their origination and optimizing their amount in individual construction phases, from preparing the project through entering into an agreement with the supplier, to carrying out the project itself. The theoretical part outlines used basic concepts according to valid laws and regulations, and introduces individual construction phases including defining extra work and unrealized work. The practical part shows a real-world example of the negative influence of such work on the investor-supplier relationships and the analysis of failures by individual participants. The result of the thesis is processing a suggestion for reducing the frequent failures caused by the extra work and unrealized work, and a consistent evidence for better argumentation and invoicing between the investor and the supplier. The main aim is to prevent conflicts between the parties that arise because of admitting the extra work and unrealized work.
