Decision Support System- Research on the application of DSS in China's Banks / Decision Support System- Research on the application of DSS in China's Banks

ZHAO, YING, GAO, JINZI January 2011 (has links)
Information system is widely used in financial area all around the world today, and businessintelligence systems has draw more and more attention from both academia and businesscircles. Based on this situation, we carried out our research. The main purpose of our researchis to find out how Decision Support System (DSS) is used in China's banks. As there are morethan five hundred banks in China, we choose the four biggest commercial banks(which hascover more than 85% of financial activities in China's banking area) as examples to study. Wesent Emails and made telephone calls to different roles in these four banks, from chiefinformation officer, managers of business to normal staff. Before carried out interviews, wedid literature study to set a scientific background for our interviews. After the collection andanalysis of data from both interview and literature study, the result is presented in threechapters. The theoretical study part introduces the theory background of DSS and how it isused in banks, the framework of the DSS and the basic model of the DSS, also newtechniques in DSS. The Empirical results part introduces the results got from interviews. InAnalysis part the results from the former chapters will be combined and analyzed, in this partwe presents the application situation of DSS in China's banks, the affection of DSS on banksemployees and improvement and drawback DSS brings to China's banks. Also newtechnology of decision support system and its application. And the last part we would drawconclusions for this thesis and summarize results from the interviews and theories andevaluate the whole research process. And the introduction of our research and the methodsused to achieve the research goal will be introduced in the first two chapters.

Spring ikapp omvärlden : en studie om omvärldsbevakning i friskvårdsbranschen / Catch up with the environment : a study about environmental scanning within the subject field health and training

Hedlund, Caroline, Loftman, Linda January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate how small organisations within the subject field health and training work with their environmental scanning. The main questions in this thesis are: How do the organisations work with business intelligence/environmental scanning? What is their environment like and of which parts does it consist? How extensive is their work with business intelligence/ environmental scanning? Which are their main fields of application and how is the work compiled practically? In order to answer these questions we have chosen to use a qualitative method, which in our case consists of two interviews with people in managerial positions within the health and training subject field. The result of the two interviews is presented in a compilation, and it is thereafter discussed and analyzed. We used an existing theoretical model and altered it in order to correspond to the aim of this research.

Process to Build an Efficient Decision Support System

Galipalli, Ashwin Kumar, Madyala, Haritha Jyothi January 2012 (has links)
Decision support systems will be an asset dealing with the complexity involved in many decision situations for companies, organizations and societies by integrating different aspects into a holistic pattern. That creates a close relationship to systems science since systems thinking promote holism as a profitable way to handle complexity. The ideal decision support system should not be used to make automatic decisions but to assist a human being in the decision process. That process is sometimes described as a model consisting of the phases, intelligence, design and choice. Intelligence is needed to understand the situation and find the information that is needed to continue the process. Design means designing different alternatives and in the last phase, choice, the alternatives are evaluated and the best alternative is chosen. A good decision support system should give the user assistance through the whole process. The main purpose of our research is identifying the process of building an efficient Decision Support System. The target groups are the people who are working with multinational companies that are specialized in constructing and delivering decision support systems to end users. The number of target companies involved in this study is only two and is limited Indian Multinational companies. The theoretical study helps in identifying the basic characteristics of a decision support system, exploring the types of decision support systems used in current organizations, resulting if there is any particular standard for constructing DSS today and signifying approach for constructing a user friendly decision support system by analyzing the existing literature related to DSS. At the same time, empirical study advances the research problem from a practical angle. The conclusion for this research is a comprehensive report in relation to the varieties of Decision Support Systems used in today’s organizations, qualities that a decision support system ought to possess and suggested process to be implemented for building an efficient decision support system. / Program: Magisterutbildning i informatik

The importance of Business Intelligence as a decision-making tool : case study electricity company of Ghana (E.C.G)

Twum Amoako, Benjamin January 2014 (has links)
Demand and technology are driving competition to its best if not to the edge, blurring the industrial boundaries and resulting in a substantial re-arrangement of businesses. The advancement in information technology has also made it possible for organisations to hoard large volumes of data from multiple sources through their business processes. To remain competitive in the face of these changing times and fierce competition, a tool is needed which has the capability to allow a holistic view of the operating environment of the organisation, by taking advantage of the huge body of accumulated data and thereby allowing decision makers to be spontaneous with their decision-making.Business Intelligence offers these capabilities and more, for instance the possibility to perform analytics operations about event(s) that demands more clarity on their behaviour.Research in this area, though young, is gradually gaining attention in academia, although still scanty in Africa. This thesis investigates if the adaptation of Business Intelligence (BI) systems can help in an organisation's strategic decision-making in the context of the Electricity Company of Ghana (E.C.G), operating in the utility industry in Ghana.A qualitative approach, employing interviews with seven selected managers at E.C.G was adopted. The results indicate that BI, or a similar system, has never been adapted by E.C.G, though the company creates huge data through its operations. Further, the organisation's information system is not linked together to allow possible discovery of some intelligence that would be worthwhile to influence strategic decisions. The dispersed nature of the current systems is not only causing delays in quest of information from other departments, but also affecting decision-making and progress of work. E.C.G is a prime candidate for the adaptation of BI to leverage on its huge data and also/additionally reduce production waste and costs and to help provide an efficient supply of electricity to its customers. Such a tool would prove to be indispensable. / Program: Masterutbildning i Informatik

Mužík, Zbyněk January 2006 (has links)
Práce se zabývá problematikou měření ukazatelů souvisejících s provozem webových stránek a aplikací a technologickými prostředky k tomu sloužícími ? Web Analytics (WA).

Management, visualisation & mining of quantitative proteomics data

Ahmad, Yasmeen January 2012 (has links)
Exponential data growth in life sciences demands cross discipline work that brings together computing and life sciences in a usable manner that can enhance knowledge and understanding in both fields. High throughput approaches, advances in instrumentation and overall complexity of mass spectrometry data have made it impossible for researchers to manually analyse data using existing market tools. By applying a user-centred approach to effectively capture domain knowledge and experience of biologists, this thesis has bridged the gap between computation and biology through software, PepTracker (http://www.peptracker.com). This software provides a framework for the systematic detection and analysis of proteins that can be correlated with biological properties to expand the functional annotation of the genome. The tools created in this study aim to place analysis capabilities back in the hands of biologists, who are expert in evaluating their data. Another major advantage of the PepTracker suite is the implementation of a data warehouse, which manages and collates highly annotated experimental data from numerous experiments carried out by many researchers. This repository captures the collective experience of a laboratory, which can be accessed via user-friendly interfaces. Rather than viewing datasets as isolated components, this thesis explores the potential that can be gained from collating datasets in a “super-experiment” ideology, leading to formation of broad ranging questions and promoting biology driven lines of questioning. This has been uniquely implemented by integrating tools and techniques from the field of Business Intelligence with Life Sciences and successfully shown to aid in the analysis of proteomic interaction experiments. Having conquered a means of documenting a static proteomics snapshot of cells, the proteomics field is progressing towards understanding the extremely complex nature of cell dynamics. PepTracker facilitates this by providing the means to gather and analyse many protein properties to generate new biological insight, as demonstrated by the identification of novel protein isoforms.
