Postavení videoherního průmyslu mezi kreativními průmysly v České republice / The position of video game industry among the creative industries in the Czech Republic

Roubíčková, Anna January 2015 (has links)
The diploma thesis entitled "The position of video game industry among the creative industries in the Czech Republic" brings up a complex view on the Czech video game market. It has been created based on data acquired from numerous local and international scientific studies and also using interviews with selected representatives of the Czech video game market. It has turned out that the Czech video game industry builds up its economical position step by step. Its year-on-year turnover grows and thus gradually counts up to even larger portion of the return of cultural and creative industries. This happens spontaneously, without systematic support from the national or local governments. However, such a support is common in other European countries. Interested parties that play a part in the Czech video game market would be (according to conducted interviews) very interested in this kind of support, mainly in form of tax relief and the promotion of local developers abroad (which would also bring foreign investors into the country). Thus, the claim that the implementation of institutional support of Czech video game would solve its two most acute problems, is valid. All addressed representatives (coming from different segments of video game market) have confirmed that these two issues are the lack of financial and marketing support. In case these barriers of market development are removed, the process of growth of the Czech video game market as a strong member of the industry would speed up significantly. All abovementioned facts, along with other aspects of the problematics, are reflected in SOAR analysis that brings the thesis to an end.

Rozšíření vývojové platformy Unity pro vizuální programování / Extension of Unity Development Platform for Visual Programming

Horký, Lukáš January 2018 (has links)
The goal of the thesis is to create an extension for Unity Development Platform that will allow creation of computer games from design of game logic to scene programming on visual level. The extension forms an abstract layer between designers, who manage game objects on logic level, and programmers, who are responsible for implementation of parts that can't be created automatically. It then facilitates some designing processes and iterations by eliminating the need of manual programming in places that can by automate and allows to concentrate on the design process itself.

Generátor úrovní pro hru v Unity / Level Generator for Game in Unity

Dražka, Jakub January 2014 (has links)
This paper broods over a subject of automated generation of game levels in the Unity engine, namely the generation of mazes and generation of environment using L-systems. It also describes some of the major components and principles of the Unity engine. On the basis of these data have been created and described two automated generators of game levels as well as a 3D computer game that uses these generators.

Program pro sociologické zkoumání vztahu dětí k počítačovým hrám / Software for Sociological Research of the Relationship of Children to Computer Games

Hercová, Světlana January 2008 (has links)
This thesis investigates different aspects of children's computer game world. In the opening chapters are described available computer games for kids, which are split into groups. After that follows theoretical introduction to the problems of sociological research and advantages of using computer and Internet for it. On the basis of observation are introduced three types of applications for investigation of children's interest and abilities in computer games and parents opinions. Two of them were already used for investigation within this thesis. Thesis also presents results of realized survey.

Player attitudes to avatar development in digital games : an exploratory study of single-player role-playing games and other genres

Gough, Richard D. January 2013 (has links)
Digital games incorporate systems that allow players to customise and develop their controllable in-game representative (avatar) over the course of a game. Avatar customisation systems represent a point at which the goals and values of players interface with the intentions of the game developer forming a dynamic and complex relationship between system and user. With the proliferation of customisable avatars through digital games and the ongoing monetisation of customisation options through digital content delivery platforms it is important to understand the relationship between player and avatar in order to provide a better user experience and to develop an understanding of the cultural impact of the avatar. Previous research on avatar customisation has focused on the users of virtual worlds and massively multiplayer games, leaving single-player avatar experiences. These past studies have also typically focused on one particular aspect of avatar customisation and those that have looked at all factors involved in avatar customisation have done so with a very small sample. This research has aimed to address this gap in the literature by focusing primarily on avatar customisation features in single-player games, aiming to investigate the relationship between player and customisation systems from the perspective of the players of digital games. To fulfill the research aims and objectives, the qualitative approach of interpretative phenomenological analysis was adopted. Thirty participants were recruited using snowball and purposive sampling (the criteria being that participants had played games featuring customisable avatars) and accounts of their experiences were gathered through semi-structured interviews. Through this research, strategies of avatar customisation were explored in order to demonstrate how people use such systems. The shortcomings in game mechanics and user interfaces were highlighted so that future games can improve the avatar customisation experience.

Reflektion genom interaktion : En analys av förbindelsen mellan spelarens moraliska handlingar och karaktärernas utveckling i tv/datorspelet <em>Dragon Age: Origins.</em> / Reflection through interaction : An analysis of the relationship between the players’ moral choices and the characters’ development in the computer game <em>Dragon Age: Origins</em><em></em>

Willander, Martin January 2010 (has links)
<p>The aim of this essay is to investigate the function and development of non-player characters (NPC) in the TV/computer game <em>Dragon Age: Origins</em>. The NPCs are analysed in order to see if their development is affected by the player character’s (PC) background and interactions. The game’s ethics is also investigated by studying how the NPCs treat the PC and what significance they give to his background and actions.</p><p>The results show that the NPCs are affected by the PC’s interactions, and furthermore, that they are round characters, which is unusual in TV/computer games. The NPC Alistair and the PC are vital for the game’s story, while the NPCs Leliana and Morrigan have a moral and psychological function. The NPCs are moral indicators and by either opposing or accepting the PC’s actions they show their own personality. The game’s norm is created by the player/PC. Also, the game sheds light on the player’s moral actions and gives the player a chance to reflect over his/her choices and the consequences thereof.</p><p>The results give way to a discussion on how games like <em>Dragon Age: Origins</em> can be used in learning. Through interactions and by letting the player project his/her own identity onto the PC, TV/computer games can show the consequences of actions. Since the player is not only told the story, but ‘lives’ it, the moral choices faced in the game make the player practice being responsible and facing moral dilemmas as if in real life, hence enriched by new experiences.</p>
