ESTIMATIVA DA PARTIÇÃO DE ENERGIA NA SUPERFÍCIE A PARTIR DE SÉRIES METEOROLÓGICAS DE TEMPERATURA E UMIDADE ESPECÍFICA DO AR / ESTIMATE OF THE SURFACE ENERGY PARTITION FROM AIR TEMPERATURE AND SPECIFIC HUMIDITY METEOROLOGICAL TIME SERIESBrondani, Daiane de Vargas 03 July 2015 (has links)
Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul / The developed method is proposed with the aim of estimating the energy partition on the
surface, according to the Bowen ratio method, and the height of convective boundary layer
on the monthly scale. The basic hypothesis is that the average temporal evolution of the
variables air temperature and specific humidity is controlled solely by the convergence of
surface fluxes of sensible and latent heat. This assumption is valid for the monthly scale
and in mid-latitude regions away from the coast. Thus, it is assumed that the advective
terms of the balance equation of these quantities in the convective boundary layer in prefrontal
and post-frontal situations have opposite sign. Therefore, using for a longer time
scale than the typical scale of the passage of synoptic systems, the cancellation of terms
hypothesis can be tested. In this study, the method is applied to the region of Santa Maria,
where it is assumed that the conditions allowing despise the advective terms in a monthly
time scale are valid. Although the model is simplified, it was possible to estimate the surface
fluxes of latent and sensible heat from simple meteorological data, such as hourly
observations of air temperature and specific humidity and a vertical profile of these quantities
in the morning; the method was efficient in most of the cases, and more flawed in the
winter months. In general, the method overestimated consistently, but slightly, the latent
heat fluxes, while the sensible heat fluxes were slightly underestimated in the winter and
overestimated in the remaining months. This pattern caused a major deviation in energy
partition in the winter months. The method can also be used to provide time evolution of
the convective boundary layer. This is a variable of great interest for studies of pollutant
dispersion and in many cases it is difficult to estimate.
No presente

[pt] ESTUDO DO TRANSIENTE DE FORMAÇÃO DE UMA BOLHA DE SEPARAÇÃO LAMINAR / [en] TRANSIENT OF LAMINAR SEPARATION BUBBLE INITIATIONPEDRO BRUNO PEREIRA PANISSET 09 December 2020 (has links)
[en] Laminar separation bubbles in Low Reynolds number airfoils is important for several applications such as: gas turbines, wind generators, unmanned aerial vehicles, among others. The performance loss of this airfoils is usually associated with the presence and rupture of separation bubbles. The effects
related to the sudden variation of the level of flow disturbances upstream of the bubble formation region are investigated in this work. The idea is to evaluate how the flow behaves when subjected to a sudden variation in the freestream turbulence. This condition can be observed in airfoil cascade of turbines, where the wake of a previous stage can influence the next. Although this scenario is of practical relevance, it has been poorly investigated in literature. For the present study, a water channel from the Fluids Engineering Laboratory was used. The pressure gradient, necessary for the bubble formation, was generated with a convergentdivergent plate and the level of disturbances in the boundary layer was controlled using a vibrating ribbon. Velocity fields in the bubble region were measured using the Particle Image Velocimetry technique with high temporal resolution. The generation of disturbances and measurements
were phase locked, thus allowing the use of ensemble average techniques. The bubble was characterized in a so called steady regime, where there was no excitation of controlled disturbances upstream of the bubble. The results were compared with references in the literature, showing good agreement. In the transient regime, the flow was analyzed from the moment the disturbance generator was suddenly turned off until the bubble had completely recovered. In these conditions, it was noted that the bubble grew
until reaching a length greater than that observed in the stationary regime. Only after the release of a large vortex did the bubble return to exhibit characteristics similar to those of the stationary regime. This behavior is similar to that reported in the literature for bubble rupture (bursting) but that is still not well understood.

Modeling and simlulation of an electro-thermal airfoil anti-ice system operation.Silva, Guilherme Araújo Lima da 11 March 2002 (has links)
An electro-thermal anti-ice system was simulated with a mathematical model developed in the present work. A 44.7 m/s (100 mph) and 89.4 m/s (200 mph) full potential flow around a 0.914 m (3 ft) chord NACA0012 airfoil with 0° angle of attack and the local water catch efficiency of 20 μm median volumetric diameter droplets impingement were calculated by the numerical code ONERA2D. Four test conditions were simulated with four different heat flux distributions of the anti-ice system according to the experimental work developed at NASA. The model predicted distributions of solid surface and liquid water film temperatures, runback water flow and convection heat transfer coefficient between airfoil or water surface and gaseous flow. The simulated results obtained by the mathematical model developed were compared to NASA experimental results and the ones predicted by the numerical codes LEWICE/ANTICE (US) and CANICE (Canada). For the regions wetted by the water film, the present model provided 2.6°C maximum temperature deviations between the predicted results and experimental data. For the dry regions, where there is no liquid water on the airfoil surface, an 8°C maximum temperature deviation was obtained. The runback flow and water film ending point position were compared to LEWICE/ANTICE numerical results. The developed model predicts adequately the convection heat and mass transfer effects between the non-isothermal airfoil or liquid water film surface and the gaseous flow, as well the effects of laminar to turbulent flow transition within dynamic and thermal boundary layer and the influence of the liquid water film flow on the anti-ice system performance.

Simulação numérica direta de escoamento transicional sobre uma superfície contendo rugosidade / Direct numerical simulation of transitional flow over a surface containing roughnessPetri, Larissa Alves 09 March 2015 (has links)
The presence of protuberances on surfaces, for example, rivets, screws and gaskets, can influence the boundary layer by accelerating the transition from laminar flow to turbulent flow. In some cases this may be undesirable, since the turbulent flow involves frictional forces greater than the ones at the laminar regime. There are some aspects of the flow in the boundary layer perturbed by a single roughness element that are not well understood. The aim of this work is to study the influence of an isolated roughness on the boundary layer. This study is a step towards to the understanding of what can happen in more complex cases. The nature of this study is computational, therefore a Direct Numerical Simulation code is used. The immersed boundary method is used to represent the roughness in the flow on the surface. The numerical code is verified via theMethod ofManufactured Solutions. Comparisons between experimental data, Linear Stability Theory and numerical results are also used for the validation of the code. Results obtained with different roughness heights and variations in the pressure gradient allowed the analysis of the influence of a three-dimensional roughness element in boundary layer flows.

FLUXOS DE CALOR E TRANSFERÊNCIA DE ENERGIA CALORÍFICA ENTRE O OCEANO E A ATMOSFERA SOBRE ESTRUTURAS OCEÂNICAS DE MESOESCALA NO ATLÂNTICO SUL / HEAT FLUXES AND HEAT ENERGY TRANSFER BETWEEN THE OCEAN AND THE ATMOSPHERE ON TOP OF OCEANIC MESOSCALE STRUCTURES IN THE SOUTH ATLANTICArsego, Diogo Alessandro 20 March 2012 (has links)
Understanding the interactions between ocean and atmosphere in regions of oceanographic
fronts is of vital importance for the improvement of numerical models for weather and climate
forecasting. In the South Atlantic Ocean (SAO) the meeting between the warm waters of the Brazil
Current (BC) and the cold waters of the Malvinas (Falkland) Current (MC) in the region known as the
Brazil-Malvinas Confluence (BMC), results in intense mesoscale oceanic activity and, for this reason,
this region is considered one of the most energetic of the Global Ocean. The interactions resulting
from the thermal contrast in regions oceanographic fronts of the OAS are investigated in this work
through estimates of heat fluxes based on data collected in situ and by satellite. The results of this
study show that the response to the thermal contrasts found in the ocean is in the form of heat fluxes
and these fluxes are critical in modulating the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL). Estimation based on
data collected in situ show that in the warm side (north) of the oceanographic front the fluxes are more
intense (latent heat: 62 W/m² and sensible heat: 0.6 W/m²) than in the cold side (south) (latent heat:
5.8 W/m² and sensible heat: -13.8 W/m²). In the South Atlantic Current (SAC) along the 30° S
parallel, heat fluxes are directly related to the meandering characteristic of the current. The data
collected in situ, in addition to allow heat flux estimates at a better spatial resolution, were used to
develop a new method for estimating the heat energy exchanged between the atmosphere and the
ocean caused by the presence of mesoscale oceanic structures. This methodology consists in the
comparison of a radiosonde profile taken over waters of the structure of interest and another taken
over waters which do not belong to this structure. The methodology was used to estimate the heat
energy transfer between the atmosphere and the ocean over the top of three structures sampled in the
OAS. The estimation of the heat energy transferred by a warm eddy detached from the BC points to an
energy in the latent (sensible) form of 1.6 1017 J (-2.8 1016 J) which corresponds to approximately
0.011 % of the total heat energy of the eddy transferred to the atmosphere during the field experiment
and 0.78 % transferred during the supposed lifetime of the eddy (3 months). Along the CSA two
oceanic structures were studied: (i) a cold meander that receives from the atmosphere energy in the
latent (sensible) form of 1.4 106 J/m2 (5.4 105 J/m2), and (ii) warmer waters associated with a
detached eddy from the Agulhas Current (AC) that transfer to the atmosphe heat energy of
approximately 4 106 J/m2 an 5.7 106 J/m2 in the latent and sensible forms, respectively. The
estimation of heat energy transfer on top of mesoscale oceanic structures clearly demonstrate the
importance of these structures for the heat exchanges between the ocean and the atmosphere and must
be taken into account in future works about this subject in the SAO.
No
As interações resultantes do contraste termal

IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DE UM MODELO DE COLUNA SIMPLES PARA A CAMADA LIMITE ESTÁVEL UTILIZANDO DIFERENTES FORMULAÇÕES DE TURBULÊNCIA / IMPLEMENTATION OF A SINGLE COLUMN MODEL FOR THE STABLE BOUNDARY LAYER USING DIFFERENT TURBULENCE FORMULATIONSSchmengler, Moacir 01 October 2012 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In this work a single column model is implemented, aiming primarily to simulate the Stable
Boundary Layer (SBL). The model is composed of prognostic equations for the potential
temperature, specific humidity and the wind components. A prognostic equation for the
turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) is also used. The turbulent fluxes are approximated from diffusion
coefficients that are directly proportional to TKE and to the turbulent mixing length,
with a adjustable proportionality factor. To estimate the turbulent mixing lengths, four different
parametrizations from the literature are considered. First, a stable case in the Arctic
is simulated, then the model is adjusted to reproduce previously published Large Eddy
Simulations (LES) results for the same case. After the calibration, the model is validated
through a comparison with observed nocturnal data, from tethered balloon soundings
performed at a deforested area in the Amazon region, in the months of July and October
2001 and November 2003. The temporal evolution of potential temperature and specific
humidity vertical profiles are simulated and compared to the observations from 13 different
nights. The performance of the different formulations is evaluated through a statistic
analysis for all nights. Potential temperature profiles were better represented by the model
than specific humidity ones. In spite being able to reproduce different stability conditions,
the model represented the most stable nights better. Finally, the model was coupled to
a surface energy budget scheme and for these simulations the initial conditions from the
night of 28 July 2001 were used. The scheme was used to evaluate how the simulated
atmospheric variables depend on the wind intensity at the top of the vertical domain for
the different formulations and with or without the energy budget scheme being added.
simular a Camada Limite Estável (CLE).

The description of the effects of the wind meandering in the scalar dispersion is a challenging
task, since this type of flow represents a physical state characterized by multiple
scales. In this study, a Lagrangian stochastic diffusion model is derived to describe the
scalar transport during the horizontal wind meandering phenomenon, occurring in a PBL.
The model is derived from the linearization of the Langevin equation and employs a heuristic
functional form, which represents the autocorrelation functions of the meandering. The
new solutions, which describe the longitudinal and lateral wind components, were used to
simulate two experiments of contaminants dispersion in low-wind conditions, INEL (USA)
and GRAZ (Austria). The results of the comparison indicate that the new model reproduces
fairly well the observed concentrations of contaminants and, therefore, satisfactorily describes
the enhanced dispersion due to the presence of meandering.
