A Model for Capacity Planning in Cassandra : Case Study on Ericsson’s Voucher System

Abbireddy, Sharath January 2015 (has links)
Cassandra is a NoSQL(Not only Structured Query Language) database which serves large amount of data with high availability .Cassandra data storage dimensioning also known as Cassandra capacity planning refers to predicting the amount of disk storage required when a particular product is deployed using Cassandra. This is an important phase in any product development lifecycle involving Cassandra data storage system. The capacity planning is based on many factors which are classified as Cassandra specific and Product specific. This study is to identify the different Cassandra specific and product specific factors affecting the disk space in Cassandra data storage system. Based on these factors a model is to be built which would predict the disk storage for Ericsson’s voucher system.A case-study is conducted on Ericsson’s voucher system and its Cassandra cluster. Interviews were conducted on different Cassandra users within Ericsson R&D to know their opinion on capacity planning approaches and factors affecting disk space for Cassandra. Responses from the interviews were transcribed and analyzed using grounded theory.A total of 9 Cassandra specific factors and 3 product specific factors are identified and documented. Using these 12 factors a model was built. This model was used in predicting the disk space required for voucher system’s Cassandra. The factors affecting disk space for deploying Cassandra are now exhaustively identified. This makes the capacity planning process more efficient. Using these factors the Voucher system’s disk space for deployment is predicted successfully.

Performance Evaluation of Cassandra Scalability on Amazon EC2

Srinadhuni, Siddhartha January 2018 (has links)
Context In the fields of communication systems and computer science, Infrastructure as a Service consists of building blocks for cloud computing and to provide robust network features. AWS is one such infrastructure as a service which provides several services out of which Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) is used to deploy virtual machines across several data centers and provides fault tolerant storage for applications across the cloud. Apache Cassandra is one of the many NoSQL databases which provides fault tolerance and elasticity across the servers. It has a ring structure which helps the communication effective between the nodes in a cluster. Cassandra is robust which means that there will not be a down-time when adding new Cassandra nodes to the existing cluster.  Objectives. In this study quantifying the latency in adding Cassandra nodes to the Amazon EC2 instances and assessing the impact of Replication factors (RF) and Consistency Levels (CL) on autoscaling have been put forth. Methods. Primarily a literature review is conducted on how the experiment with the above-mentioned constraints can be carried out. Further an experimentation is conducted to address the latency and the effects of autoscaling. A 3-node Cassandra cluster runs on Amazon EC2 with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS as the operating system. A threshold value is identified for each Cassandra specific configuration and is scaled over to five nodes on AWS utilizing the benchmarking tool, Cassandra stress tool. This procedure is repeated for a 5-node Cassandra cluster and each of the configurations with a mixed workload of equal reads and writes. Results. Latency has been identified in adding Cassandra nodes on Amazon EC2 instances and the impacts of replication factors and consistency levels on autoscaling have been quantified. Conclusions. It is concluded that there is a decrease in latency after autoscaling for all the configurations of Cassandra and changing the replication factors and consistency levels have also resulted in performance change of Cassandra.

"Je" dis la vérité, Parole de Cassandre ! : Polymorphisme de l'indicible, de l'innommable et de l'irreprésentable / « I » swear I'm telling the truth » ; Parole of Cassandra ! : Polymorphism of the unspeakable, the nameless and the unrepresentable

Desmeules, Justine 10 January 2012 (has links)
The prophetess Cassandra is arrayed in the many contemporary manifestations of a polymorphous character. This thesis seeks to demonstrate the modern side of Cassandra, drawing on recent translations of Homer, Aeschylus and Euripides, and on original works in which Cassandra plays an important role in the story's development. These works reveal Cassandra through her role as a seer and through her valid yet veiled words, whose perplexing and disturbing meaning emerges. Cassandra's prophecy, delivered in a statement that breaks the standard framework of communication—a multifaceted speaker, a temporal and spiritual relationship, highly referential or abstract language, an interlocutor from a future that has not yet come to pass. There is a complexity to Cassandra's relationships—an urgent request, hate and disdain, rejection by her community, and the desire to save her people and deliver them from danger through her warnings. The works of Jean Giraudoux, Suzanne Dumarest-Dussauge and Eudes Labrusse bring Cassandra to life on the stage, where she presents a puzzle to be solved and imposes on others a duty to act on her prophesies. Cassandra finds her full expression in her voice, in a metalinguistic reflection, and in the act of prophecy and the actions that follow from it: the impact of truth, concern, warning. But she also embodies a reflection on the current nature of truth and the relationship between our language and truth: how to speak it, how to hear it, what it is, and how to find it.

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivo total.pdf: 7488565 bytes, checksum: da4224a65194115e5e446bf21158e692 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-08-21 / This dissertation discusses the treatment given to the works of writer Cassandra Rios who with the production of an erotic literature intensified the fight against immorality in social behavior and the defense of the good morals between the years 1968 and 1977. Supported by conservative groups of Brazilian society, the professionals involved to the repression mechanism of public entertainment (DCDP) worked more rigorously on cultural manifestations of the country. The analysis prioritized the comprehensiveness of speeches that built a Cassandra Rios profile connected to transgression practices and degeneration of moral standards. From reading of veto opinions and some books of the author I identified the elements that justified the charge of breaking of the codes required by the prior censorship law. Such historical and fictional representations provide the opportunity to rethink the combinations of control of the literary production and the institutional repression through tactics resistance of Cassandra Rios front the prohibitions. Thus, I highlight the existence of a kind of "tradition of censorship" to the behaviors treated as immoral represented in literary works as motivation of the "censorial outbreak" which tried to contain the spread of pornography in the 70's. This study was developed in the Postgraduate Program in History at the Universidade Federal da Paraíba in accordance with the analysis of the research line called "Teaching of History and Historical Knowledge".

Access Control and Storage of Distributed IoT Data

Mends, Diana 03 April 2018 (has links)
There has been a growth of a class of databases known as the Not only SQL (NoSQL) databases in recent years. Its quick growth has been fueled by a high demand by businesses as it offers a convenient way to store data and is significantly different from our traditional relational databases. It is easy to process unstructured data, offers a cloud-friendly ap- proach and grows through the distribution of data over lots of commodity computers. Most of these NoSQL databases are distributed in several different locations, spanning countries and are known as geo-distributed cloud datastores. We work to customize one of these known as Cassandra. Given the size of the database and the size of applications accessing the data stored, it has been challenging to customize it to meet existing application Service Level Agreement (SLAs). We live in an era of data breaches and even though some types of information are stripped of all sensitive data, there are ways to easily identify and link it to data of real persons or government. Data saved in different countries are subject to the rules and regulations of that specific country and security measures employed to safeguard consumer data. In this thesis, we describe mechanisms for selectively replicating data in a large scale NoSQL datastore in respect of privacy and legal regulations. We introduce an easily extensible constraint language to implement these policy constraints through the creation of a pluggable topology provider in the configuration files of Cassandra. Experiments using the modified Cassandra trunk demonstrate that our techniques work well, respect response times and improves read and write latencies.

Výpočetní úlohy pro řešení paralelního zpracování dat / Computational tasks for solving parallel data processing

Rexa, Denis January 2019 (has links)
The goal of this diploma thesis was to create four laboratory exercises for the subject "Parallel Data Processing", where students will try on the options and capabilities of Apache Spark as a parallel computing platform. The work also includes basic setup and use of Apache Kafka technology and NoSQL Apache Cassandra database. The other two lab assignments focus on working with a Travelling Salesman Problem. The first lab was designed to demonstrate the difficulty of a task where the student will face an exponential increase in complexity. The second task consists of an optimization algorithm to solve the problem in cluster. This algorithm is subjected to performance measurements in clusters. The conclusion of the thesis contains recommendations for optimization as well as comparison of running with different number of computing devices.

Developing Random Compaction Strategy for Apache Cassandra database and Evaluating performance of the strategy

Surampudi, Roop Sai January 2021 (has links)
Introduction: Nowadays, the data generated by global communication systems is enormously increasing.  There is a need by Telecommunication Industries to monitor and manage this data generation efficiently. Apache Cassandra is a NoSQL database that manages any formatted data and a massive amount of data flow efficiently.  Aim: This project is focused on developing a new random compaction strategy and evaluating this random compaction strategy's performance. In this study, limitations of generic compaction strategies Size Tiered Compaction Strategy and Leveled Compaction Strategy will be investigated. A new random compaction strategy will be developed to address the limitations of the generic Compaction Strategies. Important performance metrics required for the evaluation of the strategy will be studied. Method: In this study, a grey literature review is done to understand the working of Apache Cassandra, different compaction strategies' APIs. A random compaction strategy is developed in two phases of development. A testing environment is created consisting of a 4-node cluster and a simulator. Evaluated the performance by stress-testing the cluster using different workloads. Conclusions: A stable RCS artifact is developed. This artifact also includes the support of generating random threshold from any user-defined distribution. Currently, only Uniform, Geometric, and Poisson distributions are supported. The RCS-Uniform's performance is found to be better than both STCS and  LCS. The RCS-Poisson's performance is found to be not better than both STCS and LCS. The RCS-Geometric's performance is found to be better than STCS.
