L’Institut des Hautes Etudes Industrielles et Commerciales de Tianjin (Tientsin) : une institution missionnaire française en Chine, de 1923 à 1951 / Kung Shang University of Tianjin : A French Missionary Institute in China, from 1923 to 1951

Tian, Weishuai 09 July 2014 (has links)
Kung Shang University of Tianjin, founded in 1923 and directed by the Jesuits, was meant for Chinese youth: provide them with a vocational training of high level like in the educational establishments in Europe and through them gain some favour for the Catholic Mission in China; French authorities, hoping an expansion of the French influence, support this enterprise from the beginning and support it again whenever needed. The Institute was officially recognized by the Chinese Government as “Gongshang College” in 1933, and “Jingu University” in 1948. It was later nationalized by the Communist Regime in 1951. This thesis questions the foundation of this school, its evolution and developments in the context of the socio-political changes of Modern China. It analyses its interactions between the Catholic world and the political authorities, Chinese and Foreign. Within a short period of existence, how did the school write its pages of history? Which pages did it write? Has it reached out the purpose of its foundation? Lastly, its closure. A Hero’s story?

La représentation de la Saint-Barthélémy : "Chronique du règne de Charles IX" de Mérimée, "Sur Catherine de Médicis" de Balzac, "La Reine Margot" de Dumas / The representation of St Batholomew's Day massacre : "A chronicle of the reign of Charles IX" by Mérimée, "About Catherine de Médicis" by Balzac, "Queen Margot" by Dumas

Matarneh, Mohammed 22 June 2012 (has links)
As soon as the day after the Saint-Barthélemy, everyone, according to his faith and political beliefs suggested an interpretation, and magnified the legend. In each epoch, the issue was reopened, giving rise to new controversies. The writers of the nineteenth century were primarily interested in the sixteenth century and the Saint-Barthélemy because the country was actually facing bloody confrontations again. Indeed, these two centuries are famous for great political turmoil, wars, threats from abroad and religions polemics. The authors interpreted the episodes and situations of this period by drawing parallels to political and social contemporary concerns. This dissertation shows that this massacre, perpetrated for religions and political reasons, was treated in different ways by miscellaneous authors in various eras.

The dispute between Bosnian Muslims and Serbs

Keskin, Recep 01 January 2003 (has links)
In 1918, Serbs, Croats and Slovenes established a kingdom called "Yugoslavia." Serbs were considering this state as the state of Serbs. Bosnia Hercegovina's community or political powers did not help the establishment of Yugoslavia. The official ideology considered Muslims as the heir of the Ottoman occupiers in the Balkans. In the first Yugoslavia, Bosnian Muslims were under pressure and they were attacked by Serbs who had the official support of the administration. In time those attacks turned into ethnic cleansing. Bosnian Muslims were pushed out of the government bureaucracy and their lands.

Differences in the attitudes of church-attending Catholics toward changes in religious beliefs and practices correlated with age and education

Kirkpatrick, Cletus Michael 01 January 1971 (has links)
A field survey was conducted to investigate differences in attitudes toward religious changes in a population of church-going Roman Catholics. An attitude scale comprising twenty items referring to changes in the Catholic Church was prepared during pilot studies. Half of the items referred to changes already occurring, and half to proposed or possible future changes. The attitude scale was administered to a sample of parishes in the Roman Catholic diocese of Baker, Oregon. It was administered during regular Sunday services to take advantage of the saliency effect of group membership. A response to an item of the scale indicating the subject's agreement with the change was operationally defined as a liberal response. A response indicating disagreement with change was considered a conservative response. It was hypothesized that churchgoing Catholics would be more liberal or accepting of changes already instituted in the Church than they would be of merely possible changes. The results supported this hypothesis. Total scores on the scale were correlated with the age and education of the respondents. The results support the hypothesis that attitudes toward religious changes covary with age and education much like other social attitudes, as the younger and more educated respondents showed more liberalism or acceptance of change than did older and less educated respondents. A detailed analysis of several items shows a wide divergence between parishoners' attitudes and ecclesiastical dogma. The results of the research also indicate that in the population surveyed there was a great deal of intragroup variation in attitudes toward religious changes.
