Previous issue date: 2016-11-04 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This is a descriptive, qualitative reserch based on a psychoanalytical approach concentrating on documentary and bibliographic study. It aims to identify and reflect on the most recurrent emerging unconscious motivations during the psychological evaluation process of applicants for adoption in 2014, in a Court of Childhood and Youth of a District of the State of São Paulo that made it impossible, at least temporarily, the adoptive process and resulted in: 1) Routing for psychotherapy or to an adoption support group prior to reevaluation; 2) Psychological unfavorable opinion; 3) Process suspension tip; 4) Withdrawal; 5) Decline/ refusal of the adoption by the applicant at the time of presentation of the child to be adopted; 6) Child back durind living stage or after the legalization of adoption. Aimed at building bases to support greater accuracy in the evaluation standards, listening to the judicial psychologists through the recognition of unconscious motivations representing predictors or risk factors to avoid unsuccessful adoptions. Therefore, this study was conducted in three stages: 1) Documentary examination of the file and psychological advice; 2) Bibliographic study; 3) Reflection on the findings, relating them to literature. It was used the psychoanalytic method and contente analysis according to Bardin (1977), for the treatment of qualitative data. The results showed, in a general way, the relevance of defense mechanisms as infeasibiliting adoption factors in 2014, among which mainly adoption as reative formation, the idealizacion of adoption and of the child and the projection aspects of the applicants on the child. The bereavement not prepared, especially those related to the child genetic heritage, as well as other sons deathes, also stood out. It was made clear, how much an adoption, not rarely, shows to be a solution to problems related to infertility and how a child demand, many times, means not more than a will, been far from an unconcios desire.

Termination of pregnancy : a decision dilemma amongst young woman at a district hospital.Chetty, Leandre Andreen. 27 November 2013 (has links)
The number of women accessing Termination of Pregnancy Services has increased in South Africa over the last 15 years. Lieberman and Davis (1992), hold that a woman’s right to choose is embedded in the principles of social work that is self-determination, empowerment and dignity. It is a social workers responsibility to ensure that the options are available to the clients. If a client is unable to choose from an array of alternatives it is because social workers have failed to provide them with the necessary information, therefore there can be no self-determination. Women who receive health care from public facilities usually cannot afford health care from a private physician and the ability of women to make informed decisions is based on the degree of information that is made available to them. In this study the researcher looks at the road travelled in order to make the decision to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. The process of data collection was a comprehensive, intensive process. Underpinned by the ecosystems theory, the qualitative exploratory research design was used for this research.Data was obtained through interviews from a purposeful sample of sixteen young women that attended the TOP (Termination of Pregnancy) Clinic at the research site, ranging from the ages of 18 to 35 years. This approach allowed the researcher to understand the processes and persons involved in making this decision.
The assumption underlying this study was that the decision to terminate a pregnancy is a difficult one and often made with little or no support, education or guidance. The outcome of this study confirmed this assumption. The findings revealed that young woman accessing TOP services often choose TOP in isolation with limited knowledge and support from significant others. Some women requesting TOP may not want counselling but do need it. The need for counselling is stronger for those with strong religious beliefs and those that have little or no support systems. Based on the outcome of the analysis, recommendations were made with regard to the need for holistic counselling to be an integral component in health services rendered to women, with unintended pregnancies. Counseling whilst optional should be made compulsory such that a person can cope with the physical and psychological effects of an unwanted pregnancy should they decide to terminate or keep the pregnancy. / Thesis (M.A.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, 2012.

For God, Country, and Empire? : New Zealand and Irish boys in elite secondary education, 1914-1918Bennett, Charlotte January 2018 (has links)
This thesis compares adolescent engagement with the First World War in Ireland and New Zealand between 1914 and 1918. Twenty-five elite boys' secondary schools are used as case studies, including Catholic and Protestant institutions. This approach not only captures a common adolescent cohort, but also brings transnational connections to the fore; Catholics comprised approximately 14 percent of New Zealand's population, at least nine-tenths of whom were of Irish descent. In addition to differentiating student behaviour from adult-articulated expectations, boys' responses to the war are juxtaposed against those of their teachers. Using school periodicals, newspapers, and memoirs, this thesis partially recovers the neglected history of adolescent wartime experiences in two under-researched regions of the British Empire. It also elucidates the ways in which hostilities disrupted age-specific concerns and practices in elite school settings. Age was critical in shaping how male non-combatants were impacted by, and reacted to, the conflict. This argument is substantiated by in-depth analyses of several related themes, including 'war enthusiasm', death, dissent, and cultural 're-mobilization'. While the First World War was near-uniformly identified as a crucial event, staff responses were mediated by longstanding orientations and responsibilities. Teachers prioritised institutional concerns such as state funding and school status throughout. Irish and New Zealand adolescents also engaged with hostilities on their own terms; 'boy culture' and age-related interests provided a constant baseline against which external interventions into daily life were evaluated. These cross-national similarities were modulated by immediate contexts. Coercive measures implemented by the state did not always receive popular support, contributing to new political trajectories and visions of the future within particular communities. National parameters also had the final say as to when students could legally enlist. This intersection of age and place ultimately proved pivotal in determining civilian reactions to major global developments during the 1910s.

Previous issue date: 2014-10-15 / In the field of prostitution children and adolescents can be found, although considered a social practice that violates their rights. Consequently, society has created a social network of care, where the Guardian Council and the Specialized Care Program Families and Individuals to combat this violation. However, it seems that the government held by social agents of these instances denotes security mechanisms and risk management through a series of practices called menoristas and minors in order to resonate the notion of deviance as a facilitator of the violation of rights and the body by the subject. The questioning of such practices points to the tension between the sovereignty of the individual and technical rationality, and also with the moral values concerning sexual absurdity and good social order. At the end, appear the silence of society, the politics of social agents and the resistance of children and adolescents in the face of commercial sexual exploration. This analysis was possible by reading the records of commercial sexual exploration of children and adolescents the existing Guardianship Council (years 1994, 2005 and 2011) PAEFI-Sentinela (2005 and 2011), both the city of Ribeirão Preto / SP, based the genealogical method and the theories about government, sexuality and abnormality presented by Michel Foucault and followers.

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University students' perceptions of sexualised advertisements of three South African fast food brandsWignall, Andrea January 2011 (has links)
This research study aimed to provide the South African fast food industry and their advertising representatives with insights into 18-28-year-olds‟ perception of using sexual appeal to elicit their attention, and whether using this advertising technique is gaining positive brand recognition with this target market. This research study aimed to determine the selected sample‟s (NMMU students) perceptions of three South African fast food brands, namely KFC, Nando’s and Steers, in terms of their use of sexualised fast food advertisements. An electronic survey questionnaire was conducted with both closed and open-ended questions relating to the use of sexual appeal in advertising within the three South African fast food brands. The survey questionnaire helped determine what the selected sample‟s perceptions were of each advertisement, and whether the use of sexual appeal captured their attention. A semiotic analysis of each advertisement was conducted to determine if the advertisements do contain the use of sexual appeal, by examining the sign. This includes looking at the three aspects of a sign namely the signifier, the referent and the signified. In terms of this study, the signifier represents the T.V. advertisements; the signified represents the meaning of the advertisements and the referent represents to what the advertisements are initially referring. The results of the study indicated that each of the three fast food advertisements incorporated the use of sexual appeal in varying degrees. Respondents indicated that the sexual appeal in the advertisements was appropriate if they were directed at the right age group. The respondents indicated that these three advertisements were more likely to attract the males, in the target market and they felt that the advertisements leaned towards objectifying the women, which would be offensive to the females in the target market. It was determined that if the advertisements contained humour, they were more effective and memorable.

The Memory Of Forgotten ThingsMetz, Brittany 01 January 2011 (has links)
This thesis investigates my lack of childhood memories and documents how my artwork stands in as a substitute for that lost memory. The first part of the thesis analyzes my early life and influences; the second part analyzes my art making and process. The narrative style of writing is intentionally autobiographical to mimic the narrative style and structure of the thesis installation. My upbringing, interests, creative process, access to materials, and inspiration are fully explored. The impact my early life has on my current work is evident. Real memory is combined with created memory in the thesis multi-media installation. I wish to transport the viewer into the dreamlike space I have constructed with found objects and multi-media materials by offering an immersive experience into my world.

'Child trafficking' : experiences of separated children on the moveGearon, Alinka January 2016 (has links)
‘Child trafficking’ as a phenomenon requiring a policy and practice response has, in recent years gathered considerable pace. ‘Child trafficking’ is a crosscutting social issue, relevant to policy areas of child protection, child migration, criminal justice, immigration, social policy and human rights. This thesis explores children’s own accounts and lived experiences of ‘child trafficking’, addressing a notable gap in hearing from children directly. The thesis critically engages with the social construction of the ‘trafficked child’ examining how contemporary concepts of childhood shape and inform ‘child trafficking’ policy and practice. How ‘child trafficking’ policy has been constructed politically is examined, in shaping how ‘child trafficking’ is defined in practice. The implications for children experiencing trafficking of a system built on current assumptions about childhood and ‘child trafficking’ are considered. The study explores how children’s experiences of their childhood and ‘child trafficking’ challenge many assumptions underpinning policy and practice. The findings reveal a disjuncture between immigration-driven and prosecution focused ‘child trafficking’ practice and children requiring a welfare and individualised response to their needs. Children needed practitioners to listen to them, believe them and take action upon child protection concerns. A conclusion is drawn that the way in which ‘child trafficking’ policy and practice in England is presently constructed, and experienced, appears not to reflect the lived ‘realties’ of young people in this study. A new approach to ‘child trafficking’ policy and practice is recommended underpinned by a conceptual shift in how we perceive childhood and adolescence. Intended audiences of this study include policy-makers and front-line practitioners including social workers, the police, immigration officers and other services. This qualitative study contributes in developing methods with a hard to access population addressing a difficult subject area, promoting children and young people’s participation in research.

The system of guarantee of rights' way of operating in cases of sexual abuse against children: a processual analysisSilvia Ignez Silva Ramos 24 June 2010 (has links)
The way sexual abuse against children and teenagers is dealt with nowadays, mainly by the System of Guarantee of Rights (SGR), reveals a repressive and punitive way of operating inherent to the Brazilian penal system. This bias with an emphasis on punishment produces a certain lore on the topic, delineating a similar modus operandi within each part of SGR, which is subdivided in 3 branches: promotion, defense, and control. Based on this logic, a Masters degree research was carried out together with the Post-Graduate Program in Social Psychology at Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ). The goal of the research was to understand, by means of a documental analysis of three concluded lawsuits involving children who supposedly were victims of sexual abuse, the actions of SGR from the initial reporting of the case until the verdict was pronounced by the judge. The main focus was the actors understanding of their role in these cases of sexual abuse against children, their decisions and concepts they resorted to in the proceedings, and, finally, what arguments led to the final decision and verdict. Going through the specific legislation for Childhood and Youth one can comprehend how rights-related issues were incorporated to issues related to childhood, particularly in the last twenty years. In reality, the research reveals that the principles of penal law took the center stage, running contrary to the needed attention that should have been given to the victim and his/her family, repeatedly placing the blame on the mother for negligence. And the actual abuse, considered upheld at the beginning of the proceedings, ends up watered down in court.
