Vztah římskokatolické církve ke kinematografii v českých zemích mezi lety 1918 - 1948 / The Relationship of the Roman Catholic Church to Cinematography in the Czech Lands between 1918 and 1948

Hasan, Petr January 2020 (has links)
After the First World War, the Catholic Church intensified its interest in a world that was becoming ever more secular and began to look for new means of actively and creatively taking part in cultural affairs. Cinematography was one of the areas in which this trend became most apparent. It was shortly after the invention of cinematograph that various ideas and plans regarding how to deal with film began to emerge among Catholics. Consequently, the Pope gave his blessing to community-based initiatives and included them in his plan in the encyclical Vigilanti Cura. This study seeks to familiarise the reader with a multifarious mixture of interesting, and often contradictory, voices and opinions that were heard from Czech Catholics with regard to film. Catholic activities in the field of film are divided into three basic areas: production, classification and distribution, with the first area concerning the effort to make their own Catholic films. This study demonstrates the problems faced in this endeavour by presenting the difficulties in the making of the film Saint Wenceslas and the consequent relationship of Catholics to the completed work. The classification of films from the Catholic point of view was carried out systematically and in a coordinated manner. The study deals with the origins of...

Forest, Pierre-Olivier 01 1900 (has links)
It is our aim, in this study, to explore the practical and pedagogical possibilities of an auto-poietic approach to sound designing in cinema. Our main concern is to grasp the modalities of the asceticism unique to artists of this trade, understood as a apprenticeship of the self, by the self (Foucault) in order to generate the one who can make the work of art, and the descriptive and operational roles of this exercise - as a means of producing critical thought with respect to one’s own know-how-, in the making of the film and the invention of possibilities in audio-visual cinematographic “writing”. To do this, firstly, based on various forms of autopoietic testimony, we study the reflexive relation of three sound designers (Randy Thom, Walter Murch and Frank Warner) with respect to their practice and their efforts to think (and put in place) the conditions of a practice and an esthetics of film sound as a form of sound art in the audio-visual context, while these are working in normative framework. Secondly, we will use various theoretical (the art theories of Deleuze and Guattari, the “surécoute” of Szendy, the history of poietic from Valéry, etc.) and practical (Schaeffer’s musical research, the master-student relationship, the relationship between automatism and thought in the modern cinemas of Artaud and Godard, etc.) considerations to help contextualize and analyze these experiences of artistic creation, with the objective of problematizing the figure of the poietic-artist in the wake of Foucault’s theories on the techniques of self.

In this research, we seek to unveil the underlying logics of the socializing that used to take place in this specific social and cultural space, emphasizing the transvestite prostitution market inside of it. We will show some of the mental and corporal schemas which this concrete reality evokes, seen as a symbolic matrix of practical activities, feelings, conducts, thoughts and judgement on the part of the spectators that used to make up this space. The Jangada movie-theater was shut down in july, 1996, and played an intermediary role in the general process of reorganization of the “social geography” of the local movie houses’. In downtown Fortaleza pornography has become destiny, and after Jangada, the emerging movie houses represent a new configuration as to the exhibition of this cinematographic genre, not only because of the video format technology now used, but also because of the territorialities that they give place. This dissertation is intended to be a critique contribuition to the thinking of the town spaces and territories, the existing conditions of those who make a living out of the prostitution market and the coming into being of socializing places which, having porn iconography as condition and pretext, give visibility to the alternative modes of sexuality and end up producing new and unexpected territorities in relation to the shaping and disciplinary architecture of a movie theater.
