Lärares professionaliseringssträvanden vid skolutveckling : Handlingsalternativen stängning och allians

Lind, Steffan January 2000 (has links)
The overall purpose of this thesis was to contribute to the understanding of teachers’ endeavours to their own professionalization in connection with developmental work at school. The main purpose was to analyse how well these endeavours could be interpreted and understood in terms of the action-altematives of closure and alliance. This thesis comprises empirical investigations of three developmental activities involving various categories of teachers. The first study concerned nursing instructors in the upper secondary school and the college of higher learning in an experimental activity dealing with nursing practice, the second study concerned a pre-school teacher, a recreation instructor and junior level teachers in an experiment with school start for six-year-olds, and the third study concerned immigrant language teachers of Finnish in a developmental acivity, whose purpose was to improve the quality of bilingual teaching. A qualitative approach was chosen with interviews as the principal method for the collection of data for the descriptions of teachers’ endeavours to professionalize in practice. These descriptions were later analysed and interpreted in the light of concepts adopted from the neo-Weberian perspective in combination with the more liberal attitudes characteristic of the perspective of ”the Third Path”. Inclusion, dual closure, and demarcation, and, in addition the opening alternative of vertical alliance were the activity options included in the analysis. The results showed that teachers’ endeavours to professionalize occur through interwoven efforts aiming at competence and position, seeing position and improvement of position as decisive for the possibilities of the development of competence. Furthermore the results showed that teachers put into practice closure as well as alliance with a purpose to maintain or improve their own position. The conditions of the individual case decided the choice of action-alternative and the result of the endeavours. With a single exception, where the teachers chose an alliance which was primarily horizontally directed, the teachers’ endeavours to professionalize were inconsiderable. The differences noticeable in teachers’ endeavours to professionalize have been discussed in the light of their different conditions as to their positional starting point, the present impendent scenario, the existence of real activity options and how well the chosen strategy was manifest in official documentary guidelines. Furthermore the various conditions for the initiation of the developmental activities have been discussed and also to what extent the intentions behind the change-over to the goal-related and decentralized educational system has won legitimacy on various levels of the educational system. / digitalisering@umu

In the mining, according to this new conscience, the society also comes demanding a new boarding for the question of mine closure (known internationally for design for mine closure). A joint effort has been materialized, causing adjustments in the mining projects since its implantation, until its deactivation and closing, as well as in the legal systems that intervene in this aspect in Brazil. There is still a lack of studies developed in this area and a lot still has to be done, therefore the choice of the subject for this thesis. It is intended, during this work: to present a description of the evolution of Brazilian legislation; to approach some aspects of the international legislation relating them with the current trends; to propose a discussion about effectiveness of the fulfillment of the legislation and its impediments in the process of mining closure. It is expected to culminate this work discussing concrete cases of mining closure that allow the improvement of future plans of mining closure. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Evaluating and updating the Kansas Department of Transportation’s lane closure guide in the Kansas City metropolitan area using Traffic Management Center data

Nye, Benjamin Gilbert January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Civil Engineering / Eric J. Fitzsimmons / Each year maintenance and rehabilitation occur on interstates and highways to repair damage, improve rideability, and increase safety. To perform many of these activities a short or long-term work zone is required. However, short and long-term work zones can have significant impacts on traffic flow, especially during peak travel times. To mitigate the impact of work zones, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has developed a lane closure guide to assist KDOT personnel and contractors in determining times during the day that a lane can be closed to traffic. The existing lane closure guide was comprised of limited data sources and assumptions based on past traffic counts. The purpose of this research study was to evaluate the existing guide and update it using a consistent data source that reflects current roadway conditions. During the evaluation of the existing lane closure guide, several inconsistencies with traffic counts, directional splits, and adjustment factors were found. To eliminate the consistencies, data from the Kansas City Traffic Management Center was used. During the procedure of updating the lane closure guide a repeatable data extraction process and a quality assurance/quality control process were utilized. In addition to updating the KDOT lane closure guide, sensor data verification was performed on one KC Scout sensor on K-10 using road tubes. The data from the road tubes was then compared to the data extracted from KC Scout during the same time interval. The comparison found the road tubes and KC Scout counted statistically the same number of cars for the chosen interval. However, the comparison found the road tube’s average speed for chosen interval to be on average 10 percent higher than KC Scout, which was statistically significant.

The space closure with Nickel-Titanium alloy (NiTi) T-loop springs for en masse retraction has not been studied. Superelasticity and shape memory are NiTi properties interesting to tooth movement. The aim was to determine by assessing three dimensionally the best T-loop spring design to the en masse space. Were tested one hundred T-loop composed springs by handles of rectangular NiTi wires and stainless steel horizontal rods, joined by criss-cross tubes. The T-loop composed springs were divided in groups of ten springs according to the caliber of the NiTi wire, handles height, horizontal activation or variations of preactivation radius or thickness of the wire rods. The springs were tested in the OFT device (Orthodontic Force Tester) for measuring orthodontic force system. Mmultivariate analysis profiles was used to compare the groups along the deactivation and possible interaction between the variables under study. It was observed that composed T-loop springs showed adequate horizontal force average for en mass retraction 0.017 x 0.025 and 0.018 x 0.025 NiTi wires. The height handles and horizontal activation variables demonstrated interaction during off to the force variable, however, have not shown this relationship to moment and M:F. It was considered that the best design of T-loop was 7mm height, 7mm horizontal activation and pre-activation radius 6mm. Clans, sects, and symmetric spaces of Hermitian type

January 2021 (has links)
archives@tulane.edu / This thesis examines the geometry and combinatorics of Borel subgroup orbits in classical symmetric spaces G/L where G is complex linear algebraic group and L is a Levi factor of a maximal parabolic subgroup P in G. In these cases, known as symmetric spaces of Hermitian type, we show that the canonical projection map $\pi : G/L \to G/P$ has the structure of an affine bundle. This fact yields a cell decomposition of G/L as well as isomorphisms of the cohomology and Chow rings of G/L and G/P, and motivates the study of the Borel orbits of G/L in relation to their images under the equivariant map $\pi$. For all of the cases of interest (symmetric spaces of types AIII, CI, DIII and BDI), G/P is a Grassmannian variety with Borel orbits called Schubert cells. Borel orbits of most of these symmetric spaces are parametrized by combinatorial objects called clans. This thesis provides enumerative formulae for the orbits in type CI, DIII and BDI , and gives bijections between sets of clans and other families of objects such as (fixed-point free) partial involutions, rook placements, and set partitions. Clans come with a poset structure given by the closure containment relation of the corresponding Borel orbits, and we supply rank polynomials for these posets in types CI and DIII. We give a combinatorial description of the closure order relations in types AIII, CI, and DIII which allows us to resolve part of a conjecture of Wyser on the restriction of this order from type AIII to other types. In the course of this description, we identify the preimages of Schubert cells under the map \pi as collections of clans called “sects.” Our combinatorial description of the sects identifies Borel orbits whose closures generate the Chow ring of G/L and reveals additional structure in the closure poset of clans. In particular, the preimage of the largest Schubert cell coincides variously with well-known posets of matrix Schubert varieties and congruence Borel orbit closures. Furthermore, we show that in type AIII the closure order restricted to a given sect can be described combinatorially in terms of “rank tableaux.” / 0 / Aram Bingham

Maintenance scheduling for railway tracks under limited possession time

Dao, Cuong D., Basten, R., Hartmann, A. 06 August 2020 (has links)
Yes / Maintenance planning for busy railway systems is challenging because there is growing pressure on increasing operation time, which reduces the infrastructure-accessible time for maintenance. This paper proposes an optimization model that is aimed at finding the best maintenance schedule for multiple components in a railway track to minimize the total cost in the planning horizon. One distinct and practical feature of the model is that the track accessible time for maintenance is limited. We formulate all relevant costs in the component's life cycle, including maintenance cost, fixed track-closure (possession) cost, social-economic cost related to the effects of maintenance time on the train operation, and service-life shortening cost due to the shifting of activities. Generally, it is beneficial to cluster and maintain several components in a single possession because this helps reduce the cost by occupying the track only once. However, the decision must depend on the available possession time. A sensitivity analysis is performed to highlight the effects of available possession time on the number of required possessions as well as the total cost incurred.
