Mörkandet av det svenska slaveriet : En undersökning av översiktsverk om svensk historia och samhällsdebatten om svenskt slaveri / The Hidden story of the Swedish slavery.

Jonsson, Alex January 2018 (has links)
There are a lot of Swedish people who are aware of former Swedish colonies. St. Barthélemy in the West Indies, has many streets and towns named after Swedish people, exemplified by the capital Gustavia, named after King Gustav III. What many fail to learn about however, is the fact that slavery and slave trade is a relatively large part of Sweden’s cultural heritage. These are events that Sweden doesn’t seem to want to remember.   This study aims to look at Swedish history books to study historical writing about Sweden’s involvement in slavery and slave trade. The study will also analyze the social debate regarding slavery in Swedish newspapers, in an effort to showcase why these historical events have been forgotten and purposely evaded. The study will make use of theoretical standpoints revolving around historiography and use of history.   The results show that social debates in Swedish newspapers is largely in agreement regarding the grim nature of slavery and the shameful historical events that transpire. In addition to this, the papers seem to be in agreement regarding the need to address this part of Sweden’s history in an effort to tackle future conflicts facing multicultural countries such as Sweden. In regard to history books, the result is telling. In essence, history outside of Europe has been neglected, and thus Sweden has been allowed to create their own historical narrative, leaving slave trade beyond the horizon.

Ant Colony Optimization: Implementace a testování biologicky inspirované optimalizační metody

Havlík, Michal January 2015 (has links)
Havlík, M. Ant Colony Optimization: Implementation and testing of bio-inspired optimization method. Diploma thesis. Brno, 2015. This thesis deals with the implementation and testing of algorithm Ant Colony Optimization as a representative of the family of bio-inspired opti-mization methods. A given algorithm is described, analyzed and subsequently put into context with the problems which can be solved. Based on the collec-ted information is designed implementation that solves the Traveling sale-sman problem. Implementation contains graphical user interface to track the algorithm. Implementation is further optimized using parallel programming and other methods. Finally the implementation compared and summarized results.

Written in Thread: The Evolution of Quilting in the Bethel and Aurora Colonies

Flier, Hannah 11 July 2013 (has links)
According to current models, 19th century American quilts are presented as simple objects of cultural heritage or considered for their similarities to other forms of modern art. This thesis follows a three part approach in order to study these objects which are valuable sources of historical information in their full context. This approach includes the historical, social/aesthetic, and material contexts of the objects. The topic of the study is the quilts of the Bethel and Aurora colonies, 19th century Christian "utopian" sects in Missouri and Oregon. While societies such as the Bethel and Aurora colonies shunned many aspects of modernization, quilts appear to be an area of connection with the outside world. The quilts serve as material evidence for the tension between communal and secular worldviews in the colonies.

"To Bear All That Comes Upon Us": Resurrecting the Aurora Colony Narrative Through Mortuary Analysis

Kerr, Noah 29 September 2014 (has links)
The gravemarkers of the Aurora Colony Cemetery offer a means of examining identity and change within this early Oregon utopian community. Led by charismatic Wilhelm Keil and composed predominantly of people of German heritage, the members of the Aurora Colony sought to distance themselves from worldly influences through emigration to the Willamette Valley. In existence from 1856 to 1883, they sought to maintain shared cultural practices while, as farmers and artisans, relying simultaneously upon inclusive commerce with the outside world. Contextual analysis of this mortuaryscape provides a venue for understanding the interplay of separatist ideology and extralocal forces among Colony members and the following generation of their descendants. Artifactual data from relationships found among their mortuary objects reflects patterns of change in material, typology, composition, and language spanning the years 1862-1920. Subsequently, such objects express the tide of acculturation and dissolution experienced within the Colony.

A busca da adequação entre formas literárias e momento histórico: um estudo comparativo entre O Guarani de José de Alencar e O Escravo de José Evaristo de Almeida / A comparative study of the romances \' O Guarani \' by José de Alencar and \'O Escravo\' by José Evaristo de Almeida

Fabrizia de Souza Carrijo 09 April 2008 (has links)
The dissertation entitled \'A busca da adequação entre formas literárias e momento histórico: um estudo comparativo entre O guarani de José de Alencar e O escravo de José Evaristo de Almeida\' has the purpose of presenting a comparative study of the romances in question, underlying the elements of the epic genre present in O guarani, and the elements of the tragic genre present in O escravo. For this, we will lead the reader to the historical moment of Brazil and Cabo-Verde, because the representation of the political and social reality of these countries demand a dialog with these classical genres, that certainly, gave a greater legitimacy and verosimilitude to the romances.
